@garbagetime Teams that need to win in the final two weeks of the regular season to avoid playoff elimination are just 67-101-5 ATS against teams that have already been eliminated.
That is a plausible trend that I've seen evidently over the years not surprised that is the stated ats record. The more desperate someone need something, the worser the outcome thats also life in general. Pressure is on that team trying to make the playoffs. Most general bettors tendency is to back the team needing to win because "they need to have it they're at home and will be more motivated than the team that is already eliminated"
Sip on that plus money honey!

"But there’s an old adage that I like to go by in these situations: if a team is in a must-win game in the regular season, it’s probably not very good."

I always struggle in the last 2 weeks of the NFL season because of the status of teams with playoffs and teams that are out. There are basically 4 different matchup categories:
A. 2 teams out of the playoffs
B. 1 fighting to get in and 1 out
C. A game involving a team that has clinched playoffs, but doesnt need to win
D. 2 teams fighting to get in "D" is easy. But how do you guys handle A, B, and C? I often end up not betting them at all. Curious to hear different approaches.
I believe there may be 1 more match-up Category.
E. 2 Teams that are both in, which is the game we have tonight between Detroit and Dallas - who is more motivated or in the best situation to win?
Dallas -5 (This how I see this game) Also, really like Dallas in the 1st half - 2.5 or 3
-Detroit has just clinched and won their Division for the 1st time in about 20 years in a very difficult back and forth game at Minnesota and now they go home for Christmas and back out on the road. This team had to be on a very emotional high after winning their Division, which I believe sets up for a little let down tonight.
Dallas is off of "back to back" losses on the road and need this game very bad to reinstill their swagger and confidence and Dallas is a different team at home. Losing this game tonight cause incredible conflict within the ranks.
I guess we will see soon how situation E. plays out.
BOL!
