Of the QB's i have seen, I would always say Montana but as much as I dislike Brady, the guy was money in Superbowl including the one he lost. He drove them for the winning touchdown, the defense didn't hold and he had no time on the last drive.
No he wasn't money in the Superbowl vs the Giants. The Patriots during the regular season averaged 37 points of offense and 26 pts in the playoffs. Then against the Giants in the SB, Brady and the offense could only muster 14 points, while the defense held their own. So that high powered offense that no one could stop, only scored 14 points in the SB. Yes, I would say Brady choked.

interesting! i was watching The Herd today, and he talked about something i have been saying ofr many many years.
the majority of sports fans will say that Montana or Brady are the best QBs of all-time.... but to say that is to completely misunderstand what the NFL is about (his words, not mine!). look at who their coaches were: Montana had Bill Walsh, the greatest coach of the 80s and 90s, and Brady had Bill Belicheck, the greatest coach of the 2000s...... (i would add that others throw in Bradshaw, who had Chuck Knoll, the greatest coach of the 70s, in my opinion)...... Brees was pedestrian, then he teamed up with Sean Payton, and now he's a champion...... the point is, the NFL is about systems and schemes, and championships come from the coaches who create those systems and schemes.
pretty much his exact words, other than my comments in parenthesis......

you can't simplify the "who is the greatest QB" argument to "which QB has the most rings?"....... it is surprising that some people would think that you can...... i can understand that argument for coaches, but it isn't true for a QB any more than it is true for a left tackle or corner back......

Absolutely right, Braqdy choked in that game. When he didn't have his standard 10 seconds to throw the ball each play, he was like a deer caught in headlights with that pressure. Sure, he didn't throw any INTs but he took drive damaging sacks and wouldn't take any risk with his throws. Sure, he may have thrown an INT but he also would have kept many of those drives going and put more than 14 points in that game.
What people forget is that the Patriots defense pretty much shut down the Giants up until the last drive of the game. By that time the "best offense of all time" should have had 30 on the board.
Just to put Brady's failure into context, everybody wants to get on Favre for when the Packers lost to the Giants in the NFCC game. But at least his defense played atrocious, he had no running game support to speak of, faced the same pressure as Brady. But still scored 20 points against that tenacious Giants d in -10 degree weather!!!! Brady couldn only muster 14 in 70 degrees.

I love how people are saying that Brady has "faded" Dude threw for 4k yards and 28 TDs 12 months after having both of his knees shred to sh*t. Watch out this season fellas...

What's funny is no one said who Brady top receivers were for those 3 Super Bowl wins. Manning was always set up with at least 2 or 3 top wr's and a good tight end. Here are Brady top receivers in the SB era. Branch, Gaffney, Faulk, Patten. This guy is pretty damn good to accomplish 3 SB'S with those WR'S.

Recievers that Manning made and a TE that was just average until Manning included him more into the offense.

I still disagree about Brady and the giants superbowl, he drove his team when he had to against a fantastic pass rush, it doesnt matter that he didn't put up 40 points. He put his team in a position to win the game when the game was on the line, no team can ask for more.

Montana is still the man hands down. The thing people forget about when they mention free agency and how teams like San fran were so strong because they could keep their team together is that, the Giants, Redskins, Cowboys and teams like the 85 bears were around. Lets not forget about the Bills even though they lost. There were some true Super teams that he played and beat.

all that does is strengthen the point Cowherd made about the fact that the NFL is a league of systems and schemes..... plug in anyone and they succeed...... people still aren't getting this.

First of all, the most damning part of Spygate by far was the 2002 SB walkthrough tape. Anyone who says that the Pats cheated based on Spygate findings should also note that the equipment that was supposedly put in place for the Rams 2002 SB walkthrough was never setup to record anything. The recording equipment supposedly just sat there and did nothing. Officially there was no walkthrough tape.
Also, for the record, remember, we are talking about ARLEN SPECTER for god's sake. It's amazing that Wikipedia accentuates his political career, when, in fact, he will be known as the author of the "Magic Bullet Theory" in reference to the Warren Commission's investigation into the assassination of JFK. Right there Spygate loses a LOT of credibility, meaning I smell *setup*. Also, the media blitz surrounding spygate seemed inflated. The whole thing just seemed contrived.
That said, both Brady and Manning have been absolutely remarkable regular season performers.
The thing that sets Brady apart here is that his 14-4 is really 9-0 during the 3 Superbowl wins, and then 5-4 after that. During that 9-0 stretch, the Pats had 6 1-score victories. 3 of those 6 victories were their 3 Superbowl wins. 4 of the 9 wins came vs. Indy and Pittsburgh, very tough opponents. Yes, one of the 6 victories was the "tuck rule" game vs. Oakland. Hey. That's the way it goes.
The winning from 2001-2004 is what sets Brady apart. He was just good enough to win every playoff game the Pats played in those years. And the Pats only had home field advantage in one of those 3 seasons. Just really impressive. Yes, Belichick was the mastermind, but it took Brady and Belichick together to pull out those 6 1-score wins.
Best ever? I don't think I would put him ahead of Montana, at this point in Brady's career. But he's right behind Montana, for now. Manning, however, is not right behind Montana. He's back a little further.

I'm a Giant's fan, so I'm being impartial here.
