Imagine, if you will, that a professional football team is like a car.
A car can only run for so long before it needs to stop to refuel. Excessive use and or excessive speed only depletes the tank quicker.
Professional football teams are similar in the fact that teams can not sustain high levels of consistent play over the course of consecutive weeks.
The Cleveland Browns enter this weeks contest against St. Louis running desperately low on energy. This game will be Cleveland's third road game in four weeks. They have played 3 straight tough games, going 1-2 during that time frame.
* Lost 27-30 on the west coast against San Diego
* Won 33-30 on the road against division foe Baltimore in overtime
* Lost 23-26 at home against Denver in overtime
A west coast game followed by 2 consecutive overtime affairs on back to back weeks is a tough pill to swallow for any team.
Cleveland among the bottom teams in total defense, missed teams best defender last week with Joe Haden (check status) on bench against Denver. Cleveland ranks last in the league against the rush.
St. Louis enters the game well rested after last weeks bye.
Rams faced tough early schedule as 4 of first 5 games were against league powers Packers, Steelers, Cardinals & Seahawks. To make matters worse 3 of the first 5 were on the road
The emergence of rookie sensation Todd Gurley the past 2 weeks is just what the Rams need. Providing quarterback Nick Foles with the threat of a ground attack will slow down the opponents pass rush enough to make life easier for the under performing qb.
Give any quarterback time to throw in this league is a recipe for disaster for defenses.
Rams defense at home on a fast track against career backup Josh McCown is a step down for this unit after facing the likes of Rodgers, Palmer, Roethlisberger and Wilson recently.
The Rams sitting at 2-3, looking up in the standings at both the Cardinals & Seahawks, realize the importance of beating teams like the Browns at home in spots like this and will not take this game lightly coming off of a bye.
Expect the Rams to pound Gurley early and often, thus setting the table for Foles to take shots downfield in favorable situations.
Cleveland comes out flat.
