A good portion of these replies in favor of Carolina have simply validated the points I made in the write-up.
"I am betting against the rookie in his first start because Cam can make the throws and beat them with his legs."
First of all. Cam has not been able to run in the NFL. It is not because Carolina has not has a lead, it is not because he has been so outstanding through the air. It is because he is not in college anymore. In college he could muscle his way around and run up and down the field. Half the kids on those college defenses even in the SEC were not half the athlete he was. I have news for all of you. This is the NFL where all the athletes defensively are JUST AS STRONG and JUST AS POWERFUL and on every defense there is at least one or two guys who are JUST AS FAST. His dual threat does not fly in this league, and it shows. 18 carries for 71 yards so far. His two touchdowns were for 4 yards and one was for 1 yard. Chad Henne has a 10 yard TD run, longer then any of Cam's. Chad Henne broke the stop watch when he ran his 40 because the clock didnt go above 10 seconds. Also, because apparently EVERYONE has forgotten already, Cam Newton is a ROOKIE. He has started TWO GAMES. I have to back Cam against a rookie in his first start. If this was two weeks ago, everyone was on Arizona because it was Cam's first NFL start. How the hell have all of you fell into this crazy perception that this guy is one of the best QB's in the league?
Everyone is calling the Jags a "weak" team. They are 1-1. Carolina is 0-2. Im not even going to go into how much better Jacksonville is because there are three posts of mine to lead this thread off about it.

Cam doesnt need to run the ball either when he throws for 400 plus...williams and stewart do need to run it but he doesnt look for the run nearly as much as he did in college

Not sure where the value is in taking Jax. The line is 3.5 ok you are getting that .5 but the line is tight. Books are not overreacting to Newton. If the line was 5 or 6 then ok you are right but at 3.5 which i can buy to 3 I dont see value. Jax is on the road for the second week in a row. Carolina is at home second week in a row. Your evaluation about Newton is odd. The guy just set the all time passing record for a rookie in his first two games. You dismiss him outright. Come on.
Ill take Carolina at home against a team that just switched QBs and has shown no ability to score in the first two games.

way to much effort to try and convince someone to take the Jags
Carolina it is
exactly!
go ahead and unload on it

Nope not buying it.
Cam is a different player. You can break down his pure passing skills to only find out he can beat you by dump-offs, or using his own legs. More than all of that, he is elevating the level of all of the offense by knowing they have a guy that can play.
Panthers are a couple plays away from being 2-0 to some tough teams. I think Carolina wins in a rout on Sunday.

I started my own thread with this, and it seems applicable:
So i know the Cam Newton show has taken everyone by storm, but let's remember that this is still a ROOKIE QB in the NFL which means there will be rough times ahead, and I actually believe they started last week in GB. Ignore the 400+yds passing, he still turned the ball over 3 times and got lucky to hold on to what should have been a fumble. Once Capers made adjustments at the half, the Panthers offense had no answer.
This is an 0-2 squad who looks very pass happy, and forgot what their bread and butter is - POUNDING THE ROCK! Any rookie QB who's gotta chuck the ball 40+ times is good for two INT's - I expect a lot of passing once again from the Panthers and the Jag's to win the TO battle.
Look for the Jag's to control the ball on offence with MJD and Karim, and with Carolina having two starting LB's out + two inexperienced D-Tackles, the Jag's should have no problem moving the chains with the run-game.
The QB play has been suspect (understatement) in JAX, but last week was a terrible spot for McCown, he's not THAT bad, and neither are the Jag's. They were victims of a game that got out of hand really quick and were forced to become one-dimensional, playing right into the Jets hands - This week will not be the same story.
Whether it's McCown or Gabbert, the Jags hide their QB, run the ball effectively, control the clock, and win this game outright.
Bottom Line - This is the best running attack the Panthers have faced to date. I see 3 TD's on the ground from Jax which should be enough to win this game, and with Cam Newton single-handedly inflating this line, take the Jags and don't think twice.
PLAY: JACKSONVILLE +3.5 (3 units)

Not as detailed as your write-up VegasJack, but we hit the key points. I've been capping for some time now, this is a line the public would eat up.
Jags not as bad as ppl think, Gabbert not a factor - Carolina not as good, and injured. Might be a FG game which is why i love the points here. Jags run on this D all day!
Let's get this

nice write-up and i agree that there is a lot of unwarranted hype on the panthers.
dont know if this is the week they get exposed but every sundat there will be more and more film on cam which d coordinators can focus on.
you know its a bad week when pod is a car/jax game.

This is a really good Post and thread...
I admit myself as being more or less "Johnny public" ...over the long run I lose. I win too, but generally this whole gambling thing is a form of entertainment for me. Do I want to win when I bet? Of course, but I'm not backing teams I hate. That is a formula for losing in the long run.
Anyway, here is my point: I first looked at the lines yesterday and thought to myself, "OoOoooohhh...this is a good chance for Cam Newton to get his first win". this may be the best pick of the weekend. He's been passing for a lot, played GB kind of tough, and are playing At home...against an average JAX ...new QB for Jax, etc.
However there are many good points made in VEgasJacks post I failed to think or consider:
Green bay was in a lame spot last week
These teams are no different than last year really , except both have Rookie QBs.
What was Carolina's record last year? What was Jacksonvilles?
Seems like a total trap to get Johnny public (with all the ESPN hype on Cam Newton) all over Carolina.
I remember the good old SC Pete Carrol days when the ESPN crew every big game would pick the SEC team or Big-12 team or Big-10 team to beat USC and Palmer/Leinart/Bush/Booty/Sanchez teams, and generally the ESPN pundits were wrong and SC would cash me in. When in doubt, always fade the ESPN announcers' majority
