My thoughts on Sean Taylor

Question

I never thought or imagined that a loss of a football player from my team or any team for that fact would have this sort of emotional effect on me. This is a day that I will always remember. Since I heard the news this morning I have been a wreck. This guy was 24 years old and had a hall of fame career ahead of him. When watching the skins play 70% of the time I would just watch number 21 in the secondary. His talent was out of this world. Prior to this season he was known as a head hunter. This season he had 5 INT&#x27;s, by far the best year of his young career and showed just the potential that was there. He had finally turned the page in his life with the birth of his new daughter. &#xD;&#xA;As a skins fan I could really care less about the rest of the season. 5 or 10 years down the road when I look back to this season im not going to remember if we make a run to the playoffs or whatever happens the rest of the year. I will remember the loss of an athletic icon in the washington dc area. Not sure what else to say here but my prayers are with him and his family. May you rest in peace.

I hear ya SF. I am not a Skins fan but did follow Taylor. What an awesome athlete. Enjoyed watching him beat down on TO also. When I heard he died this morning, my heart sank and I totally just feel out of it today.

with you SF, I really liked Sean Taylor thought he was misunderstod, tried but could not stay away from trouble. You would read about how he took care of his Grand mother and he was a quiet kid and how once he got on the field he was a crazy person that no one from high school at Gulliver to miami wanted to go against in one on one tackling drills. As a U guy Sean was top three for me with Ray lewis and Ed Reed! One of the best defensive games I ve ever seen was as a senior at Tallahassee against the noles. Made a bundle of tackling picked three ithink scored once. He just dominated the entire field. Just as he had turned the corner some awefull like this happens. Hope they catch that bastard and he gets his. Understand he kicked in the door and fired two shots and ran!

Really does make all the bickering over games so unimportant. Prayers wit Sean's , girlfriend, family, and his baby daughter Jackie

I post rarely in these forums although i do read them everyday.&#xD;&#xA;I like to start by saying my prayers go out to the taylor family.&#xD;&#xA;When i heard of this news this morning it hit me hard. No i&#x27;m not a Redskins fan No i&#x27;m not a Sean Taylor fan but i&#x27;m Human and so was he.  For someone to take another persons life over i&#x27;m sure meaningless bullshit its just horrific.   God what is wrong with this world your not safe in your own schools, neighborhoods, or Homes.  It&#x27;s very sad.  Again my prayers go out to the Taylor Family. God Bless and Rest In Peace

RIP....one of the most dominant players in the nfl.  sad day today, and i feel for the guy and his family.  terrible thing to happen to anyone.  sf your post makes me think of how i would feel if it were one of my beloved brownies, and i think ironically that&#x27;s one of the many great things about sports.  here is a guy that could have ended up down a much worse path than what he did, and yea he got in trouble a couple of times, but football made him more disciplined and involved and doing good things in his community that he likely wouldn&#x27;t have done otherwise.  his impact on the fans and communities of miami and washington was obviously a positive one for his death to have this type of effect on people.  i know personally that i obviously don&#x27;t want to see anyone die like that, but it&#x27;s different here for me as oppposed to someone i see that got shot and killed in the news, and it would be hurtful to an even greater extent if it were one of my browns.  he brought a lot of people joy and his passing has brought a lot of fans that never even knew him a lot of sadness.  this type of compassion proves the power of sports and how great it can be through all of the BS that we talk about on a daily basis on these forums.  realizing this can be somewhat of a silver lining to a very, very tragic event.  god bless the family, friends, teammates, and fans of this great athlete.

I am saddened by this event, but am skeptical on any comments making Taylor out to be a hero.

I do not believe this was not a random act nor should you.

There was a reason that he was shot and i am pretty sure it wasnt because of all his good deeds that he has recently done.

With all due respect to Sean and his family, why are we making countless threads and talking about him?  He is really no different from any of us other than he has a different occupation, that&#x27;s all.  There are plenty of carpenters, stock brokers, lawyers and janitors who die every day for one reason or another and no one gives it a second thought.  &#xD;&#xA; &#xD;&#xA;Do any of you actually think Sean Taylor would give two shits if any of us died?  The answer is no.  &#xD;&#xA; &#xD;&#xA;I feel compassion for his family and little girl but the fact remains, people every day pass away from various causes and no one other than immediate family, cares... but because he was an athlete, we are supposed to think different.

And, I agree, doubt this was a random act, he was targeted for a reason. Normally a burglary or robbery would not occur in a such a way that a person breaks open a door and just starts shooting. Why not shoot the girlfriend since she was an eye witness. Nothing was taken from the premises.

This was a planned attack. Probably the same person who went there 8 or 9 days ago when he wasnt home.

Countless on field acts that were cheap, countless off field acts that were shady.Sure I feel badly for his girlfriend and family, but this shit doesnt happen to Tiki Barber, Steve Smith or Jake Plummer.

Over 30 people killed by guns every day in the USA.... Most did not enjoy or have the comforts that Taylor did.. He is not better or worse because he was a NFL player... Mourn for all just not the famous.. Did not know him, feel  sorry for his family he left behind  but the idea that anyone is tore up and can not watch football again  over a person they did not even know is a little strange IMO..

Guys. I say we put the thread on Taylor to a rest. The man died tragically, and yes he did have some off-field incidents. But don't you think as he lay there in his bed dying, he felt nothing but sadness for his little daughter? I would not say he died like a thug...laying in a hospital bed is a humbling experience. Lets put this to rest, because trashing the man once he has passed is flat out stupid and disappointing.

KOAJ-- not sure where you are going with that but it was ruled a homicide.  I have no personal knowledge of the situation but he was probably targeted as well.  However, it could of been a random drive by shooting, but I doubt it... who knows.
