Yes, they are complaining, but it does seem like a fair criticism on their part. Although I'm sure similar events have happened in other SB's. I'll take every advantage I can get with my KC bet.

Biggest game of the year and there's a huge difference in practice facilities, damn right they're complaining. And if the situation was flipped the Chiefs would be complaining also.

But again, Shanahan and his coaches should have known UNLV field is a shithole. Why are they just discovering it now??? What have they been doing the past week? Jesus, at least Jim Harbaugh sent out advance scouts LOL.
I will be on the Niners with essentially a pick the winner game, but come on Shanahan/Lynch! Get with the program! Be prepared for all contingencies!

I would have thought that both teams and the NFL would have thoroughly reviewed and approved details like this well in advance of the game to assure neither team was at a disadvantage in preparing for the game. How come no one from the NFL and especially the Niners surveyed the practice field well in advance of this morning. That is what I was commenting on and not that the Niners are a bunch of sissies for bringing it up now. In a game of this magnitude there is no excuse for someone not to check this out well before this morning. Success in this game is all about the details at all levels.

Local radio mentioned they were already hearing about the Niners not being happy about the field last friday. Niners did their checks, NFL dropped the ball.

I believe they said they just laid sod on the turf a week ago... and then rain started just recently which probably affected the conditions? Not sure, just guessing. But does suck for SF.

Funny the article I read on the topic seems to say the 49ers said that the field does meet nfl specifications it’s just they prefer a harder field. Also mentioned the “home” team which alternates year to year practice in the nfl teams facilities and the “away” team at the nicest college facilities nearby. Seems like a slow news day….maybe they should have the superbowl the week after the Conference Championship games instead of stringing it out for 14 days of dullness

Chiefs practice in a brand new state of the art climate controlled field. The niners practice outdoors with massive rain storms with spongy soggy muddy lose sod and seams. This is supposed to be mutual no advantage for either team. If it were opposite and the chiefs were complaining, I’d completely understand bias aside. the nfl really dropped the ball here.

I'm retired now , but I used to manage major Construction projects for a living.
In the Construction process I always had to be mindful of two things that could
spell disaster on every project. Making sure my contractors were aware of
everydetail in the process and following through to assure they didn't miss
something.Preparing for and having a contingency plan for any unforseen
circumstance thatmight arise from preparing the subsurface for foundations
through the completion and handover of a complete facility.
Oh yeah, and doing all it according to schedule and budget.
It's all about details. I cannot believe that the Niners did not develop
a contingency plan based on weather alone, apart form the condition
of the field.

Is it because the Chiefs are Champs or they are in AFC or what is the reason for the differences? There is a Chiefs flag buried under Allegiant Stadium from a construction worker, he posted a photo and story a while back. It resurfaced. They refer to Allegiant as “Arrowhead West” because it is always full of Chiefs fans and they are 4-0 at Allegiant.
every year it rotates, nfc is home then afc is home. Both should have acceptable practice facilities tho. Dome game, the niners shouldn’t be practicing outdoors on a grass field rolled over turf at freaking unlv with horrible weather. Both should be practicing in doors. This is the fn super bowl here

I don't even think the Niners care that they're practicing outside, they care about the firmness. The average score for fields in the NFL is 78 for firmness with none being under 70. UNLV's is being rated around 50s. The Niners are concerned because it's a similar firmness to MetLife stadium where Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas had serious injuries.

Lotta Construction workers migrate from the Midwest to Las Vegas to
work during the Winter months. I saw lot of it when I was building a
Chemical plant in Kansas. Wouldn't surprise me if that story was true.

This might be a stupid question, but why are the 49ers already in Vegas practicing anyway? Is it a must for both teams to be there a week before the game? I would think that they would stay in San Francisco for as long as possible. How long is the flight? 90 minutes?

They are in Las Vegas now to satisfy NFL and Media obligations.

That and the magnitude of the game. I would think they would have said give us a legit practice field or we don’t show up until Friday
