Start naming the QBs in history that took crappy teams from bad to good and/or good to great. Every QB we consider great, those that have all the rings and all the records, were surrounded by talent in both sides of the ball. I'm sure there is an outlier or two out there but I can't think of one. I guess you could make the argument for Mahomes, Allen, and Burrow but only Mahomes has had sustained success. And even he has looked pedestrian at times without Tyreek Hill.

 I have the likely best example down here, Warner took a horrid Cards team to the big game and had the lead until the last Pitt possession. That Cards team was in the bottom 2-3 in defense, they had no run game and a bad OL, no player outside of the two WRs were of quality, James was on the downside of his career. 

The reality is that a team wins the big game and the point I was making is Lamar has not been on a bad team, he has never had to carry even a mediocre team. I dont think he would be able to take say the Jets to the playoffs or SB, or the Seahawks or Giants or Bears, no team that is just ok and elevate based on his skills and to me that is the definition of elite. Elite is not based on the team talent it is based on the player only and I do not consider Lamar as elite.

The hate doesn’t match reality though. It’s something else other than playoff success I promise you that….want to know what it really is? 

Defense and running game lmao yeah no QB has ever had those before.  Lamar actually just lost his best playmaking RB the week before SanFran.  If Keaton Mitchell was healthy they would walk over ppl to the Super Bowl this year I truly believe.  And remember this is the same defense that allowed all those yards and points to Watson and the Cleveland Browns.  Defense is good but not great.  The only one truly great on this team is Lamar Jackson.

 Current QBs there are few if any pocket focused, read the defense take a hit and make those strong throws players. There are many mediocre pocket QBs, there are some mobile QBs that are lacking that accuracy and reading defenses (like Murray).

The past era had many strong position Qbs and less mobile so it might be that the league is changing and the pocket, study the defense focus on accuracy and timing players are not being developed.

 Manning his first many seasons did not have the supporting teams that Lamar has his entire career. Manning had great success outsmarting the DL with HUPO and trying to take advantage of lazy defensive schemes. Indy defenses were not even close to the quality of what Baltimore has and Lamar has not been forced to chase games, he is much more of a game manager than Manning, now Eli was for sure a game manager but he had a strongly better supporting team than his brother for all of his career.

Lamar Jackson is a mobile game manager with an elite defense his whole entire career. Peyton manning is the GOAT. Figure it out kiddos

Manning had Marvin Harrison from the start. Then he got Reggie Wayne. He had Marshall Faulk and then Edgerin James. He had a decent line led by all-time great Jeff Saturday. And when they hit their prime, they had an underrated defense with guys like Bob Sanders and Dwight Freeney. Guys are never great by themselves. Football is the ultimate team sport. All the greats had great supporting casts. Kurt Warner in Arizona? You can't be serious. Off the top of my head they had Anquan Bolden and freaking Larry Fitzgerald. Didn't Edge finish his career there as well. And while there defense wasn't great, and wasn't highly rated, I guarantee if I refamiliarized myself with the roster, I could pount out some playmakers on defense.

 If you read my first reply, he had the two great WRs and James was on the end of his career, James was also a PITA while on the team, he was used to being center stage but with the pass first approach he did not want to pass block or be a release route. The defense was horrid. The only playmaker on that defense was DRC and he flamed out pretty soon after leaving. They had Wilson who also did nothing, but the stats do not lie their defense was awful. With regards to Fitz, even with Palmer who was a solid QB they never got deep in the playoffs and the team has never been as good offensively. 

Warner made MANY receivers look great guys like Breaston, Urban, Doucet etc guys that you never heard of after. Great QBs like Peyton and Warner, Brees etc make players around them better. 

No question to me the previous QB generation were more pocket, defense reading accurate in nature versus current players.

Joe flacco had a 10-5 playoff record with ravens and a sb harbaugh was there coaching.  Sorry to say there is someone else to blame.  I think most raven fans would take lamar in the regular season then bench him for flacco (in his prime) in his postseason.   The guy needs to go on a playoff run then the critics will dissappear.  You go 15-1 in the reg season win mvp, then disappear vs the titans in the first round you will get criticism and you deserve criticism at that point.

How do you know who I hated and didn’t?  I ripped Manning many times for his flameouts.  He choked hard many times.  I’m not the one who put Peyton on a pedestal in this thread so watch who you quote.  And don’t try to bait me into something that isn’t remotely what I said to fit your stupid fucking narrative.  

It’s not hating it’s being realistic. The guys has thrown for under 200 yards in 6 games this season. He is near the bottom of the league in passing yards per game. His completion percentage is middle of the league as are his Tds. There is nothing remotely special about him as a passer. Yes he averages 50 rush yards a game, but QBs need to throw. He is a nice QB to have but this mvp talk is ridiculous. 

I don't see where you're getting this idea that Lamar is the most hated player. Maybe you should say under-appreciated, but in no way is Lamar hated among average NFL fans. I guess this is a discussion about MVP voting... to which I would ask the million dollar question:

WHY DO PEOPLE STILL GIVE A FUCK ABOUT THIS TOTALLY MEANINGLESS TRASH AWARD? 

It's a bullshit award that caters to people who don't know fuck all about football, but know how to read a stat sheet.

When I posted this there were several threads discussing Jackson, and most were negative ones…. I wasn’t race baiting at all… and I have no clue who the fuk Rashad Richey is….. Seems like you’re the one fixated on the colour of one’s skin. Give it a rest. 

The 2023 Ravens can beat any team except the Pittsburgh Steelers. 

Over the years on this site and in other sports discussions I saw a ton of vitriol aimed towards both Manning early in his career and Brady all the way through his career calling him just a product of the patriots system etc. And criticisms continued from many individuals even after tons of success, some people are just haters. Carson Palmer was always pegged a choke artist along with other talented QBs, Josh Allen is beginning to get vilified a lot for his teams recent failures despite his successes. Listen to any broadcast and Lamar is praised through the roof as is any QB they try to sell the game with. McNair and Moon two of my fave QBs over the years and I know many other peoples’ were never labeled choke artists or shit on because they didn’t win the big one, I never heard any hatred towards them, they were both considered great and were well respected. Lamar simply gets questioned about can this guy win the big game and take them to the promised land because he hasn’t had his greatest games in those huge games yet. I’ll say for me he can be frustrating to watch because as great as he can look sometimes he can look beyond horrible sometimes and make some bad decisions on the field so I’d say consistency is the thing he’s still lacking but that can still come as he continues to mature. Pretty simple, there’s going to be haters and critics no matter the skin pigmentation and only way to quiet those people is through having success on the big stage in the games that matter most. The hatred of Brady and lack of credit given to him by so many despite all those rings is the sole reason he went to another team as an old man hell bent on winning a championship outside of New England and away from Bill, to shut a lot of those people up. The ravens defence feasted on brock purdy last night and Lamar played well. The door is WIDE open for him right now to win a Super Bowl with this team, there’s nothing significant in the way with the parity in the league right now. The Chiefs look done. Nothing stopping the Ravens right now, so yeah if they flop in the playoffs again he will get blame because QBs get the blame when a very good team fails. He will also get all that’s coming to him if he leads them to the championship, even just getting to the Super Bowl will erase a lot of the can’t win the big game moniker he’s carrying with him. There’s nothing stopping him or the ravens. What a useless race baiting thread.
