There are two games in mind when we look at tonites game. This game and next weeks showdown in Pittsburgh with New England. Coincidence that the Steelers have been on primetime the last 3 weeks and not covered any and now all of the sudden the Pats are on tonite? Nope. This was done on purpose in that the league knew that next week would most likely settle home field for the AFC. The league wants us to be comparing and contrasting these two all week after tonite and what we've SEEN. BOTH teams can NOT be hitting on ALL cylinders. I will explain why below. Quickly, we need to talk about the Steelers here for one second though. 3 wins but no covers in those 3 on primetime. The media has painted the picture that they are struggling to beat bad teams. Inconsistent, if you will. Very important to keep in mind. Very!
As for the Patriots, they are steam rolling teams. Coincidence that Gronk is out tonite after that stupid move he pulled last week? Well....you know me....I have my thoughts on that but we'll leave that alone. Tonite, Brady and Belly go against Miami and did you know they are 7-8 IN MIAMI? A losing record? You think they know that? Probably. You think the Pats are going to hold back tonite? Ask yourself this question: WITHOUT Gronk.....the Patriots ON THE ROAD are 12 point favorites? Think about that. 12! As bad as Miami may be they are still technically alive for the wild card, barely. So with Gronk....what would the spread be? I'm seeing a lot of people jumping on the Dolphins thinking the spread is an absolute gift. That's a lot of points right? Well.....think about this then and think about it from a perception standpoint. What if the Patriots cover tonite WITHOUT GRONK? Where do you think public puts their money next Sunday? Steelers or Patriots? It's important to ask yourself that for the narrative that lies ahead. And if you don't believe in narratives at least be respectful here....I will say though.....if you haven't been watching primetime games lately, it's all there!
I'm not going to write sentence fragments and give you bs like others in this forum. I'm not gonna yell f@x for every game but I can tell you going forward, if you kept your eyes open you may just be able to make a ton of money come January. I think I've proven that I know what the h@ll I'm talking about here......but to each is own. Tonite, are you putting your money on Jay Cutler and the Dolphins or are you putting your money on the Patriots and their improved defense and unstoppable offense? My guess tonite is that you won't even know the difference whether Gronk is out there or not. Didn't they go through the playoffs last year WITHOUT Gronk last year? Just saying. Imo tonites game is a setup game for next weeks game against the Steelers. If the Pats "struggle" tonite what's the spread next week? If they dominate what's it going to be? Both teams cannot be hitting on all cylinders and with how the Patriots have been playing especially their defense, I believe we may see the machine back at work tonite. Next man up, do your job mentality, get to .500 against Miami on the road.
Last thing and take it for what it's worth: I said to myself before last last nites game that one team, either the Patriots or Steelers would "struggle" this week, NOT BOTH. I laid the house on Baltimore last nite second half because down the spread, 6 at half, I already knew what Steelers team we'd get. They "struggled" last nite. The Patriots tonite though....,I firmly believe to fit the narrative I'm expecting, the Patriots may dominate tonite for the public. I mean if they lay an egg....people will say but they didn't have Gronk so no big deal. If they dominate, that sets up next week. Do the Steelers 4 weeks in a row not cover? Do they lay down against the Pats? Or because of the 3 straight non covers by Pittsburgh, does Pitt get a gift back by beating the Pats next week? I can tell you that Pittsburgh has made the books a ton this year. Non believers of the script don't know what I'm talking about here. I mean if the Pats dominate tonite and then get Gronk back next week, the public won't think they lose to Pittsburgh, right? Again, I DO NOT LOOK at this league the way many do so if you disagree that is fine. Just be respectful. The 83-63 record and 6-0 in the last 4 primetime games should at least warrant some sort of explanation that I may not be nuts with how I view these games. We will see. I guess the Pats could struggle tonite and I get narrative wrong but so far, so good. will break down the teams later as I hope others will too; I just wanted to set the table. THOUGHTS?

Correct me if I'm wrong: we saw the Steelers win their division last nite .....if Patriots win tonite, they win the division too, correct? Are Brady and Belly the type to screw around in games when the division title is at stake? Rhetorical question there.

My thoughts are taking Miami with 11-12-13 or two touchdowns will never be a comfortable feeling thru out the game going up and against Tom Brady who single handedly can clean up Miami tonight without Gronk if he is let loose. That being set I believe the under may be a more solidified play with Cutler not in no way shape or form wanting to get into a shootout with Brady therefore they will try to keep it on the ground trying to grind out points and in turn chew up the clock. It will be interesting how the game unfolds and a move such as you made last night by watching the first half may be a very wise decision to make as well tonight without jumping the gun from the get go with a better idea of how the game is about to unfold.
Good luck tonight bud and as always a true asset to covers with your in depth analysis and reviews on the games for the day....stay hot my man.

Great read, I really think you might have something with your angle, the patriots crush tonight setting up a bloodbath next week where Pitt can cover with everyone on the pats.

This double digit spread is ridiculous. I have to tease this one down. All the dolphins need to do is control the line of scrimmage and keep Brady off the field, they do that then they have a chance. But I still think the patriots offense is too dynamic to be kept in check.

You make it sound easy. You do know the Dolphins qb is Jay Cutler, right? The Latriota defense has been very good as of late so expecting the Dolphins to be able to score 7 rather than 3 in the red zone is asking a lot, no? Also, ask yourself what is the intent of the line? At first glance many look at the fact that the Dolphins are at home and are getting 11 or 12? Seems crazy right? Lastly, if the Patriots throw all day doesn't that make the Dolphins one dimensional relying on the arm of good ole Jay?

At first, I thought exactly the same way you did. Pitt barely wins, Pats blowout to setup next weeks match. However, Pats is deemed u stoppable and been covering at a ridiculous rate (6 straight and 8-4 overall with most of those losses coming early).
With that said, that justifies why the public is on both them and the Over tonight as they expect another burial. I think LC made some great comments and he knows his team well. I think this is a grind it out win and get the fuckk out of Miami knowing we have 6 days to prepare for the first seed.
Normally you would be against the prime time percentage so it appears you feel the setup is more valuable than Vegas letting the pub win it tonight.
24-17 final Patriots

Love the thoughts, Achilles.

Really tough number. I think NE absolutely wins but 11 is a big number and leaves the backdoor open to the very end. The last time these two played Brady took a lot of hits. I will probably ultimately pass and enjoy the game.

Great breakdown and analysis as usual. The only thing you said that I question is this:
"Tonite, are you putting your money on Jay Cutler and the Dolphins or are
you putting your money on the Patriots and their improved defense and
unstoppable offense?"
I'm gonna take a third option and sit this one out. Good game to watch imho. BOL if you bet it.
My question to you, when was the last time you saw a divisional match up with a home team double digit dog? Been betting the NFL many years but don't ever remember seeing one. This is what is so strange to me about this game.

Regarding your first paragraph. I get it that the pats have the Steelers on the road next week but they know Miami will play them tough or at least try to. The Pats occasionally go through the motions in BIG games. Imo, this doesn't qualify. If Dolphins cover, they backdoor it but so many are talking about the offense of New England. I think new England's defense is smoke and mirrors and will be exposed in January but as of late they've "shown" to be dominating. With Jay at qb, I wouldn't be surprised if this is a defensive gem put up by the Patriots.....

So what's your play? I really don't get it. You mean Steelers didn't cover the spread on purpose for the game next week against the Pats? Give him a novel prize!!

So we out first prick enter the thread. What's your intent buddy? Rather than beat around the bush like all the other puds on covers, tell us? You here to cause problems? Paint a picture of me? It's exhausting dealing with your kind so if you'd like to tell us your problem, I'd hear you out. If not, keep pissing in the wind. You are here for something? Is it a play? Is it for attention? It's obvious so far your purpose is zero. Thanks for stopping by chief. One down....I'm sure we'll get more today.

Hey, Jay Cutler is fully capable of pulling a rabbit out of the hat, then throwing a touchdown or two with said rabbit. I’ve seen cutler throw rabbits and ducks, so I can’t rely on him especially in this situation in prime time. But this double digit is obnoxious to say the least. The divisional home dog deserves a look.

Achilles, Great intro as always... Yes I sure do recall Gronk being out last year and it seems play makers just show up in NE games this one however may be a bit different it definitely could be a set up but NE does struggle at Miami for some reason div spot perhaps not sure but they do seem to work it out. While I don't like going against Brady and well Cutler is another story I do believe with as banged up as NE is they are looking forward to Pitt and this game really is not a do or die for them but it is for a revenging Miami team who most likely gets the cover. As I close my eyes !!
