This game has me more torn apart then any game i can remember!!!
My gut says SF but my head says N'awlens....
San Fran plays a brand of defense thats awesome to watch, Harbaugh gets his troops fired up more than most coaches, and i could see Aldon Smith ripping off the edge and destroying Brees multiple times Saturday
.... BUT....
I could also see Brees running his spread offense to absolute precision, picking on SFs 3rd and 4rd CBs, taking advantage of LBs on Graham and Sproles OR a CB on Graham, it would'nt matter - hes practically un-defensible!!!
So which is it???? Im so freakin TORN!!! Help Out Covers Brains!!!

why does everyone just "assume" Brees will hang 30 on this ELITE Defense??? Remember when Tom Brady and that RECORD SETTING Offense played the NYGs in the SB and everyone just "assumed" they were good for 28+ (even Tom was offended when someone said theyd only score 17).... Well this game REALLY reminds me of that! Great Defense cancels out Great Offense!!! and if the Giants could Stiffle the Pats Record Setting Offensive Attack on a NEUTRAL Site, the 49ers can STIFFLE the Saints @ Candlestick!!!

San Fran play a brand of defense that relies on turnovers.... it the saints control the ball, and don't turn it over, the niners will look very ordinary and out-matched.... there is no doubt the saints will move the ball and generate yardage....
the key to this game, imo:
- can the niners generate drive killing turnovers and get good field position for its offense?
- can the niners get red-zone stops, forcing the saints to kick field goals instead of getting touchdowns.
If the niners can do the above, they will hang in there, cover and possibly win.... if not, the saints will win by outscoring the niners (that may be the most ludicrously obvious statement of the day)

Saints have won 9 in a row and are averaging 30+ points along with covering during this period. You can compare to games of the past, different teams and trends, up to you. My money is going on the better QB, more experienced playoff team, better coach and more than capable defense. I cannot and will not put my hard earned money on Alex Smith especially considering they were 6-10 last year.

Aldon Smith will need 2 get in Bree's face to tilt the game their way,and Gore will need 125 yds on the ground or they buried...still will be on SF....+3.5...

As stated earlier by someone else, don't bet if you're torn. Brees is no where near "absolute percision' when playing outdoors. Check out the 2011 outdoor games; @GB; @Jags where NO only scored three fg's in the 2nd half againt a rookie QB making his first start; @TB (loss); @CAR, where they were trailing with less than a minute to go; and @Tenn where they played against a rookie QB who had a chance to beat NO on the last play of the game.
SF def is way better than the aformentioned teams. Willis, Bowman, Grant, Gooden and Costanzo are stout at LB position and have covered NFL RB's and TE's with a lot of success in 2011. Sproles and company will likely run a couple of screens successfully, but the play action is not going to work as effectivley for NO as it has against other teams.
With the emergence of Ahmad Brooks and Aldon Smith in front seven, SF's secondary is also way better when compared to 2010 unit. Shante Spencer, who started in 2010, is now the fifth on the depth chart. That should give you an indication.

you're finding ways to talk yourself into what you already picked, the lesser team, the underdog with the lesser QB. vs a team that is playing their best winning 9 in a row who most are thinking cannot compete and put up 30+ pts on the road. a team who is battle tested and a QB who can put you in a deep hole quick and doesn't let up with a lead. Take Alex Smith Frank Gore and that stellar 49'er D....you already talked yourself into it so just do it.

I'm torn on these games too. I remember last couple years in the playoffs I knew who I was betting by Tuesday, I got the best line in almost every game, and killed it(8-2 and 9-2).
So far this year I have been tentative at every step(got cute and bet NO first half and passed on the Broncos cause I don't like them and hate seeing them in the playoffs fucking up the flow of everything). Now this week, been going back and forth on every single game. Especially this Saint-49er game. Right now, looking like I am taking the points, and three days ago I was DEADSET on the Saints.
Only game I am somewhat confident with is Baltimore and even then I would not be surprised if that game was a 20-17 defensive slugfest and non cover for Balt.
Tough year.

Even in this career season for Brees, he has shown he is vulnerable on the road/outdoors. Niners get to the QB more than anybody in the league this year. On the flip side, despite the aggressive blitzing, Saints don't get to the QB nearly as much (haven't recorded a sack since before Christmas).
Don't be shocked when New Orleans falls short to an NFC West team for the 2nd year in a row.

Niners ML is the play.

I miss last year cause the elite teams did not have as many weaknesses as this year's teams do. Also the flippin lines weren't that high last year in many of the games so it was easier to hit a team you liked to win without having to sweat out the cover.
