The ground can't cause a fumble doesn't apply here because he didn't have possession. Once the ball hit the ground and moved it was incomplete. Similar to making a catch and falling out of bounds, you need to maintain possession through the fall to the ground. That's my understanding of the rule at least. Seems like everyone is getting hung up on whether or not he made a football move. You could debate that both ways. At the end of the day, I think they got it right given the criteria in Article 3 above.
Yeah.
And what I'm saying is he made a football move. He already caught the ball and was extending to the end zone, He never lost control of the ball, not even close, he was trying to get more yards,
Now, if you, and anyone else, thinks he DID NOT make a football move common to the game (as the ref said is required), then THAT you need to let us know.
Usually you see these calls when a player is in the process of holding on to the ball ONLY he was NOT he was STRETCHING making A FOOTBALL MOVE!!!!!
They FLUBBED IT plain and simple and should be banned from any more playoff games this season!!

From the moment he caught the ball he was stumbling to the ground, in which case he must maintain possession. He did not, the ball hit the ground during that process, therefore it should be an incomplete pass. Yes he might have moving his legs, but while doing that he was still falling to the ground the entire time.
How is this so hard to understand??
What most of us saw as stumbling and falling to the ground, some saw as "took 3 steps and dove".
Some see what they want to see, others see the facts. Most of us get it. Those that don't , never will.

If a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or without contact by
an opponent), he must maintain control of the ball throughout the
process of contacting the ground, whether in the field of play or the
end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the
ground before he regains control, the pass is incomplete. If he regains control prior to the ball touching the ground, the pass is complete

And sorry to troll so hard but the call was legitamly good and to the rule book -- surprised by the complaints -- it's not like a bltant and called pass interference was called and the flag was picked up with no explanation by another ref after the entire game made action on the proper call, right?

nba is corrupt as s, or should i say WAS...since Adam Silver has gotten involved I've seen much, much less bs and it makes me wonder if the NBA is wagerable again
THAT SAID....
if you think it was a homer call, or payback for getting the Detroit call, understood
it's a JUDGMENT call as the ref said twice. the ref DISAGREED that he made a football move. I think he did by extended hard for the end zone, that's it.

agreed call stands is acceptable, we can debate all day if he was making a football move and get nowhere
put it all on seattle -7 or -7.5 that's what I'm doing wing and a prayer Green Bay is going to get thier *ss kicked
A. They're not at home
B. They can't stop the run. Beast mode and WIlson bootlegs that's what they do.
C Legion of Doom and quartervack pressure vs a gimby Rodgers who can't move (and won't be healed by Sunday) I don't think so
I also think the Pats win but I"m not touching that game and will have zero opinion on it.

I will say this. With the inconsistent use of replay and wrong calls still being made on a per game basis, with them saying there is or isn't indisputable evidence they should just get rid of replay all together. It is truly a joke, and makes the game less enjoyable overall. The real problem lies with defensive holding and pass interference being called every 5 minutes. Looking for a flag after every play, and watching receivers complain after every missed throw has gotten ridiculous.
The Dez catch, I say catch because if you ask a girl if he caught that they will say yes, is an example of the leagues failure to address rule deficiency. Interpretation from another ref would have let it stand as a football move
I garuntee it. If the ex head of reffing sitting in the press box gets the calls wrong have the time, what do you think about these other clowns.

Yeah I agree st2ee except we'll never see replay overturned
It should be INDISPUTABLE to overturn the ruling on the field'
You even see it with these guys in the booth disagreeing with the refs on the field, as you said. As always 5 minutes go by we'll never get back
If they're going to keep it they need to clean it up
Just put what you have left on Seattle, is what I say.
Carolina matched up very well with Seattle, Green Bay does not. Aaron Rodgers and the Pack on the road are 4-4, a completely different team, and Seattle is 8-1 at home

you have to maintain control of the ball throughout the reception... yes he gets 2/3 feet in but as he goes to the ground, with the ball cradled in his left forearm, the ball clearly hits the ground, he clearly loses posession of the ball as it goes IN THE AIR (you guys did see the ball leave his body right?), and then dez re-catches the ball once past the goaline. had the ball never left his body, or had the ball not moved once cradled in the left forearm, even with the ball touching the ground it would've been ruled a completion. BUT, dez clearly did not maintain control of the ball throughout the reception.
lost on everyone is how this couldn't have happened to a bigger azzhole than dez Bryant. did you see his reaction after Terrence Williams caught the game winner the week before? that's right- no moment of joy or celebration when his teammate caught the game winner. dez Bryant is an azzhole in life. that's why shitt like this will continue to happen to him and whatever team he's on.

According to post #104, a completed pass when the runner advances (which he did) then the ball was transferred to one hand (tells me he had control) After that,I don't know. But something does not seem right.

I want to know who 'smarter than you' is smarter than because he is the biggest mo fo in here.
DID YOU NOT SEE THE BALL POP IN THE AIR from when he landed in front of the goaline to when he RE CAUGHT the ball on the other side of the goaline?? the ball popping up INTO THE AIR constitutes him NOT HAVING POSSESSION of the ball throughout the catch.
change your handle to : 'dumber than most'

Actually, he doesn't have to make a football move. He only has to have enough time that he COULD make a football move. It's "Note 1" in the rulebook. Basicaly, if there is a enough time that he -could- make a move, before losing the ball, then it is a catch and the going to the ground provision in the rulebook doesn't apply.
You may want to read this article from when they adjusted the NFL rules in 2011 https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/03/20/pereiras-assault-on-calvin-johnson-rule-overlooks-his-responsibility-for-it/ or, you can read my analysis of it with example play breakdown by refs at https://electionaustin.com/dez-bryant-catch-rules-analysis/ Or course, there's no way of knowing if it would have changed the outcome of the game had the refs not messed up & failed to account for "Note 1", but it is important that they fix it for future years -- and they have chosen not to for 2015/2016 - we will still have the same issues of refs sometimes enforcing "Note 1" and sometimes not.
