The line on Patriots vs Cardinals..

the game was back on the board today after Brady's announcement not to appeal the ruling to Supreme Court

the line opened back up at -4.5, and has quickly jumped to -5.5

any chance the Pats keep this game close within a FG? or will Cardinals dominate this game by a TD or more?

This was a pick'em not long ago...I'm sure Belichik will be prepared when week 1 comes around. I can see this line jump to 6.5 by week 1. Garoppolo's 3 years as back up will have chance to show his stuff and lead this team to 4 wins.  I love Patriots getting  anything +5.

See what Belichik does on bye weeks with 2 weeks to gameplan for a game. He's got the entire off season for this one. Can't wait to see how Gronk and Bennet are utilized. Garoppolo is tall, so is Gronk and Bennet, that's going to be extremely hard to defend their high target area.

Bruce Arians is the man as well. I see a back yard brawl type of game. I get the feeling that the Cards expend a lot of energy in this one that might wear them down later in the season.

Random! Garappolo is a rookie playing behind an awful o line with a team that lost their first round pick this year. 

Will the Pats be good? yes. Not against the Cardinals. I see them going 1-3 at best without Brady.

I don't know the number, but I would guess that backup QBs cover at a very good rate in their first game, because the team in general is undervalued in the line. Just out of my head, last season Luke McCown covered at CAR, Matt Schaub covered at CLE, Mike Vick covered vs. BAL if you got +3.5, Ryan Mallett covered and won SU vs. Pittsburgh as a 10.5 underdog. T.J. Yates covered vs. the Jets at home.

Why do backup-QBs cover so often? Because the public only sees a replacement guy on the most important skill position. Oddsmakers adjust their lines by 3-5 points and the public still bites it up until sharps and highrollers get their line to finally bite. If a backup-QB starts, the coaching staff prepares their team differently. They try to make the life of the QB much easier and very often it turns out as an equally good gameplan as when they would have their starting QB available. Combine that with the value in the line and you got a very good pick on the underdog.

Garappolo doesn't have to be Tom Brady in that game. Bill Belichik and Josh McDaniels have the whole summer to get him prepared. The easy form: use field position and get some designed passes to TE-City. Don't necessarily see NE's offensive line as an issue here. Campbell and Nkemdiche might wreck havoc, but their lack of an edge rush could make up for it with Nate Solder being back. Also I got a strange feeling that Jonathan Cooper might breakout in New England. Garoppolo will release the ball as quickly as Tom Brady does.

In my opinion, the key matchup in this game is the NE defense vs. the Cardinals offense and especially the Cards' offensive line. The Pats have a very good front seven and a deep d-line. Mike Iupati and Evan Mathis are great run-blockers but not-so-good pass blockers. You can forget A.Q. Shipley and we don't know what to expect from DJ Humphries. As of now, there is only one proven pass blocker on the Card's OL and it's Jared Veldheer - and even he isn't elite. It's very tough to run on the Patriots - especially with Hightower on the field - and they just added Terrance Knighton. Knighton looked like he made a step back in the 3-4, but he was one of the best run defenders when playing in the 4-3 at Denver in 2014. I am expecting big things from him. We know Bruce Arians likes to attack opposing defenses but I don't see him having much success in that game against this NE defense.

Cards are already up to -6 at some books and I think the public gonna slam everything below 7 against a "backup QB". Might play it at +6 but there is a good chance I can get +7 by game week.

If Garoppolo isn't Brady maybe that's a plus , any competitive game Brady's good for two picks 

Garoppolo just being anoited the starting position is a mistake , you don't play at Eastern illinois vs teams like Towson in front of 150 people if you can play division 1 football ,

The kids a good athletic and since this is the easiest team in the NFL to play QB on  i don't doubt he can win games . and i would take him over watching another season of the biggest fraud in sports history who gets all this credit for basically sucking in any competitive game he plays in that means anything.

 Back to the QB situation people have this lofty image of the NFL using words like Rookie

Forget rookie in the NFL the QB'S that come in playing division 1 college  football  can either play in this league  from the get go or can't  

So Garoppolo who couldn't play division 1 college football is a down grade from Jacoby Brissett

 i've watched Brissett he has a stronger arm than both Brady and Garoppolo plus he can run and at  6'4 230 he's a big strong kid who won't fall to the ground like Brady does at the slightest hint of pressure ,

Brissett can release the ball quick with the Patriot short passing game but he add the demension that the Pastriots don't have of a QB who can hang in the pocket and throw downfield .

Let see how he looks compared to Garoppolo in preseason it should be an open competition 

Garoppolo has proven nothing he was drafted way too high it was a horrible pick with the QB'S avalible , Mettenburger from LSU went over 100 pick behind Garoppolo , far move talent not close even close .

And don't give me this crap about  how many games has Mettenburger won with the Titans he's  got his brains beat in 

if hall of fame Big Goofy Brady played for the Titans they woud be 0-16 if he played all the games but he wouldn't last any more than 4 games on that Titans team we saw last year before he would quit

There's been a bunch of QB's in the league that have played for smaller schools than Garappolo and have had success.

He's your lofty NFL and using the Rookie word  

Pete Carroll GM and coach gets Matt Flynn in free agency pays him $26 million with $10 million guaranteed Carroll coached pro and college he knows there is no big jump for the QB'S from college to pro 

Rookie Rookie Rookie The R word it means nothing in the NFL with QB'S 

Russell Wilson drafted 3rd round 75 th pick  comes in and wins the job it's bye bye Matt Flynn  despite the fact Carroll just got this guy and gave him 10 million for nothing 

But can you see Belichick with his ego to have an open competition and let Brissett have a chance to win the starting job in preseason , this would be admitting Garoppolo was a pick that he made way too high 

Belichick unlike Carroll won't admit mistakes and probably uses the R word

No kidding but in general you don't play division 1AA  with less people in the stands than high school fotball games if you can play division 

 I've watched Garoppolo first of all he's not tall like you said in previous post he's is not 6"3 as his bio says he looks more like 6 feet 

 he's a good athletic he can run this offense as good as Big Goofy Brady  it's the easy team to play QB on ,  not a great arm but probably still better than Brady's throwing in the 20 yard range  ,

 In this offense you only need to have a quick release every QB has the skill set to throw 0-10 yards and that's all the Patriots do ,

Like i said i watched Garoppolo enough Brissett is bigger better and has more skill , he should have a chance to win the job

Firstly, Garoppolo is from Eastern Illinois University. Alma Mater of one Anthony Ramero Romo, who is now a Pro Bowl Quarterback, and led the NFL in QBR in 2014. 

The big Division I schools miss on talent all the time, especially at the QB position. There are countless examples of primetime Division I talent that doesn't work on the Pro level, and conversely there are also examples of players who are not touted, or go to small schools, or a combination of both, that end up excelling at the NFL level. 

The reason Garoppolo won't beat the Cards week one is not because he's not a serviceable Quarterback...

It's because he would have to win a shootout against Carson Palmer to do so. He would also have to put up these numbers with sub-par receivers playing against a solid secondary, no run game (terrible o line) to help him out, and a Defense that will be playing against arguably the most explosive Offense in all of Football. 

It's just one of those things, where you can point at other situations and draw conclusions against mine, but I don't see the Patriots beating the Cardinals, in Arizona, on opening night, on national television, without Brady, let alone with a rookie QB at the helm, no matter how talented. 

On top of that, these games are going to be brutal. They have to play the Texans, the Dolphins, the Bills and the Cardinals? Those are some TOUGH defenses. A rookie can get shook pretty easily if he starts giving the ball away, and his confidence is going to be key. Hopefully for the Pats they can find a way to get him going in week 3 against the Dolphins, because I see this team as 1-3 or 0-4 without Brady. 

And for what it's worth Jacoby Brisset is nowhere near the QB of Garoppolo, regardless of competition faced.

But when you along with others who cant quite grasp the subtleties of the game thats where thebeast parts ways with you. Despite all the x's and o's fabricators which sadly your on board with I , thebeast shall set the record straight concerning the Patriots beating the sh-t out of the OVER-RATED Arizona Cardinals. I don't see how National TV helps the team playing a rookie QB. If anything, it helps the team with Super Bowl aspirations facing a rookie QB who they believe they should beat handily. 

The Cardinals are a team that runs the score up if they can.

I don't what your talking about Beast or how you manage to quote suuma post and my post together , everybody on this site knows my stance on Brady it's well documented for the last 10 years .

I counted the Arizona game as a loss if Brady played , now i like the Patriots with anyone as QB  , I'M always consistent in these forums Beast

By the way Beast what ever happened to the so called Season long Red Sox Expert you billed yourself as ?

I have followed the Red Sox for a long time and have an excellent feel for them. Sadly I am consumed with handicapping the NFL this season so no enough time to devote to the beloved Red Sox. Oh well. Thanks for asking Mystic but its your lucky day now that I will be posting profitable wagers for the coming 2016 - 2017 NFL Season.

Wasn't a fan for a dew years after his injury way back with the Bengals but Carson Palmer has been a very good QB one of the best in the league since he's been with Arizona , 

Palmer had a bad statistical  playoff game vs Carolina , but that what's happens to all QB'S who's team gets down Double Digets and the defense can tee off on knowing you have to throw down field ,  the INT's and horrible games come easy with this

No other QB'S in the league have the luxury of playing on the Patriots who never ask Brady to throw a football downfield even when down DD in the third forth quarter he just keep dowing what he always does 0-10 yards 

This is another reason Brady is such a fraud compared to every QB in this league , cause everything is made easy for him

Have you ever heard of the cliche "what have you done for me lately"? Carson Palmer SUCKED in NFC CHAMPIONSHIP game vs CAROLINA. Multiple interceptions to go along with multiple fumbles. Talk about over rated quarterbacks , Carson Palmer is right up there on top of the list. Lets not kid ourselves that Arizona will slap the Patriots around when for the most part the Arizona Cardinals are "legends in their own narrow minds". No such thing as a sure thing but the Patriots covering vs Cardinals is pretty near a sure thing.

I was never a fan of Palmer but if you watched the last two years with him in Arizona he's been 2nd to only Rogers , he makes all the hard throws he stands in the pocket takes big hit delivers throws downfield with accuracy

Palmer's  not a phony like Brady who never is required to throw a ball downfield and cowers to the ground at any hint of pressure

Palmer in the Carolina game was coming into that game with an injury to index finger of his throwing hand , it was visibly swollen 

Beast you really should invest in a HD TV color TV and throw out that 12 inch Black and white you watched super bowl 1 on

And in the future leave all QB evaluations to others who have the Red Zone, NFL Network , ESPN or at least cable TV
