I have been a pens fan since I was six, so I will chime in.
Had the Pens folded and lost this in four, I would have easily called it the worst series ever. The fact they put up a ten spot in game four and played well in five doesn't ease the disappointment I felt yesterday but at least it lets me know they showed some heart. I will say that I hope I never seen them act the way they did in Game 3 again.
No question to me, that Sid was not himself and there is no way he is 100% yet. He also needs some size/toughness on his wing, I agree with LRR's comment a guy like Roberts or Guerin in the past is what they need, a little grit. I must say the young defensemen Despres and Strait were impressive the last couple of games.
I struggle with Malkin for all his incredible talent, how he can take stupid penalties sometimes. He has so much talent, but just not the headspace I would like to see sometimes. I thought as the series went on Staal was our best player.
For Philly, Giroux was simply the best player in the series. A leader, in every sense of the word. Although Hartnell and Simmonds started off strong, they didn't seem to factor so much in the last two games, but Giroux, was just the best player hands down. I hated the fact that the Pens lost Talbot in the off season and that was proven again in this series. Just a real character guy. I though Jagr looked pretty solid also.
And to conclude, 93 losing to the Islanders, my most painful series loss. Back to back championships, looking for a third and Rich Pilon knocks out Stevens and we lose in overtime. Glenn Healey, plays so far over his head it isn't even funny and to add insult to injury, CBC makes him an announcer and everytime he criticizes a goaltender, I want to cringe.
Thanks for letting me vent. I tip my hat to the majority of the Flyers fans in here, you are a passionate bunch which is a good way to live life.

Big IF! would not be surprised to hear of concussion symptoms after that hit from G. once u get 1 ........very hairy. And let me clarify, Crosby is one of the most talented /gifted players ....im just saying talent only gets u so far. I mean look ag the pens now.
I dont know about that, people always talk about the talent on the penguins but I dont see it that way. Outside of Malkin and Letang, the rest are all decent players. Bylsma is a great coach and he has raised the expectation of the fanbase imo

It's a little unfair to judge the Pens based on this series, since Crosby didn't play in Game Six, or after the first period in most of the other games.

Like one poster said, the only things Pens fans should be embarrassed of is the way they acted in game 3.....and they corrected that and fought back nicely
As a Flyers fan, it's a tiny bit of payback for 08 and 09....just a small bit
as for the Crosby-Giroux debate, right now, Giroux is the better player....you aren't watching if you don't see that......but if you told me Crosby would be 100% back from the concussions and had another 6 months under him, I'd take him over anybody next year....but who knows.....also, he has worn on officials and fans.........whatever, no injuries, I'll say Sid is the best player in the NHL next year.....but Giroux is right there Top 5-7 after him

NHL playoffs are always a roll of the dice

I don't know. the Flyers kind of remind me of the early 90's Penguins. their D and Barrasso were pretty losse at time to BUT the offense could fill the net.
I would give them a decent chance against the West.
They do have Jagr ( which wa sa former Pen.) I think his leadership has helped the team tremendously. (If only pronger was healthy this team would be raising a cup for the first time in over 30 yrs.)

the reason I pick this year is NOT so much the "shock" of the loss like 1993, for the reasons you mentioned, BUT the WAY the Penguins let Philly "bait" them into taking stupid penalties, gooned it up and took cheap shots (which is usually the Flyers rep) and just generally "didn't show up"

First off id like to say sorry about the loss LeRink and nice to see you and some of the other Pens fans in here staying classy in defeat. It truly was a great series and it was incredible being there to see game 6.
Here is what i saw from the Pens.....I would definitely say that Fleury let them down big time, letting in some bad goals at the wrong times (thats usually Philly's MO).The defence in front of him didnt give him the help he needed but ultimately he let in too many softy's that killed momentum for them at certain parts of the series.
They definitely need to get a Top 4 "D" man in their lineup.
Crosby just wasn't his usual self and thats quite understandable after being off for so long and still trying to get his legs and head together for a playoff run.He never seemed to be into the series and ive never seen him taken off his game so frequently as i did in this series and its probably due to frustration from not being at the top of his game and contributing like he knows he can.
Malkin: this guy has all the talent in the world but it seems like everytime Crosby is out of the lineup is when he brings it all to the table. I give lots of credit to Couturier for stepping in as a 19 yr old and doing a great job of frustrating Gino. Malkin took some very stupid and untimely penalty's in the series that were also momentum killers at times.
Im not sure if Pens fans would agree with me and im not even sure i would agree with it if i was a pens fan myself but i would think about moving malkin and try to get a top 3 or 4 defenceman and another scoring winger. The reason i think they could do it is because in my opinion Jordan Stall is more valuable to the team than Malkin is. Staal can do it all on that team and is the only guy that scared me in the series and always does whenever the Flyers-Pens play. Its a nice luxury to be deep at the centre position but they are in need of another winger. Call me crazy, but thats what i think.
Finally,as for the Crosby vs Giroux comparisons......Just Stop!!!
They are both incredible talents but as much as i hate, sorry despise Sid,Crosby is the better player for sure. Giroux has the potential to get there but he is still growing into that leader role.
Yes he was way above Crosby in this series but as i said, crosby missed a lot of hockey over the last year and a half which hindered him big time.
Giroux has the better hands but they both use them differently....Giroux could stickhandle through a guy in a phone booth while Sid uses his hands, speed and upperbody strength to beat guys. Both have great vision for the game, have great set up ability and can take a game over on their own. I just dont think its fair to compare the 2 right now. Id give Giroux a few more years to make a comparison but as for now,Crosby is still the better player.

well IF your Pittsburgh you can NOT move any of "the big five" (Crosby, Malkin, Staal, LeTang or Fleury) because the fans would RIOT!!!
as for "Finally,as for the Crosby vs Giroux comparisons......Just Stop!!!", I agree 100%. they are BOTH great players who ANY team would want.
like I said, "wish list" would be a Gary Roberts style "big body with skills" forward, a "stay at home" densive D-man and definately a COMPETENT backup goaltender that can CHALLENGE Fleury. Flower was at his best when Ty Conklin (of all people) was pushing him back in 2007-08
