TOR -1 ½ +148 *half unit* The first month is always a feeling out process but what does this game look like without seeing this team play a competitive game? Looks like the current Vegas favorites at home against one of the big rebuilders. This Toronto team is primed to be a force and Montreal is going to rely heavily on a healthy Carey Price to make any dents in the win column this year. They moved their captain and a young but underachieving Galchenyuk and got back another young promising player in Max Domi. Shea Webber is still out until later this year and Montreal shouldn’t be able to generate much against Toronto and Freddy Anderson who was excellent on home ice last year going 23-8 with a strong .924 Save Percentage. I’m interested to see how Garrett Sparks plays when given a chance to start games as Anderson’s backup this year. Montreal’s PK unit ranked 30 in the league last year and faces off against Toronto’s #2 ranked PP unit which added John Tavares. Good luck! It’s going to be a loud and I predict one-sided affair, which isn’t going out on a limb whatsoever, in Scotiabank Arena.

SJS -1/2 -115 San Jose became quite the offensive team when they traded for Evander Kane last year. He fits the mold perfectly for the way San Jose likes to play. He remains on the team this year after signing an extension, which shows the Sharks have faith in him, and is joined by Erik Karlsson which will help bolster a mid-level PP unit from last year and really makes the offensive game of the Sharks very hard to control and defend. Last year, Anaheim had difficulty scoring all season long. Getzlaf seems to be slowing down and now they’ve lost Corey Perry to injury. They continued to be a sound defensive team but matched up horribly against San Jose last year and were swept and outscored 16-4 by these Sharks in the playoffs. I expect San Jose to keep it rolling at home with high expectations here against their divisional rivals.

CGY -130 Both teams are young but the ‘Nucks are younger and by default the Flames have a big edge here experience-wise. I love Horvat and Boeser for Vancouver but beyond those two, they’re going to have a lot of trouble depth-wise scaring anyone. 1-6 in pre-season doesn’t always mean anything but here I think it just shows the lack of talent roster-wide for the home team. I’m interested in seeing if James Neal gets paired with Gaudreau and Monahan which should be a fun line. They moved Dougie Hamilton, but I like Noah Hanifin and their top two defensive pairings could work out nicely. These guys were road warriors last year before fizzling out down the stretch, but I look for them to start the season out with a road win against a weaker team here.

Local. Like I said, that was two days ago. Why it was what it was I have no idea. It's since changed to +115. I won't complain about it, however.

I prefer November-February betting as the first month is a feeling out process and the last month can get off kilter from motivational factors with teams being out of it altogether, but doesn't hurt to post and see how it goes. Enjoy the season!

BOS -102 After a slow start last year, and understandably so as they were a very young team, the B’s ran off a 44-13-8 run and now with some of the youngsters having more experience, this is a sure-fire contender. They start on the road against the Caps, who are in a huge letdown spot here. An Ovechkin led team has finally gotten that elusive Cup victory and now they hold the banner ceremony in Game 1. I feel like teams in this situation always tend to eventually fall flat as you have nowhere to go but down from the excitement and energy that emanates from the ceremony. Add to the fact they are missing Tom Wilson here and I think this is a great spot for the Bruins to take a road win to kick off their season.

Glad to hear it. Halfway into the playoffs is where I'll be stopping this year, if I go that far. I stupidly kept betting last year as teams were eliminated and options got fewer and further between and yet forced bets each night really to appease the board and it cost me so sticking with my normal routine of betting the first round of the playoffs and then most likely stopping and just watching the game.
