Bears solidify the secondary with veteran safety Kevin Byard. Good tackler. I still think they draft a young guy in the later rounds.
Anyone is an upgrade over Eddie Jackson.
They have 3 corner backs who could start for any team. The Nickel package will be strong.
The linebacking core may be the best in the nfl.
Just one DE away from being seriously the top defense in the league.
Keep stacking

@undermysac
Yikes. Ya jinxed poles....terrible contract to a RB
Locking up Johnson was solid
Now they need to dump fields and get that rookie qb contract in the building

Especially when he gets hurt a lot.
Especially when he gets hurt a lot.
If you guys are thinking that DeAndre Swift will be the Bears bellcow, just stop.
Him and Herbert will be splitting carries, if not Herbert getting 60% of the load. Swift will probably be the 3rd down back, passing situation guy.
Herbert 77.9 pff rating. He played hurt for a majority of the first 8 games. Didn't get rolling till later in the season.
Swift 66.7 pff rating. Still managed 4.6 ypc with the Eagles. He has had an injury plagued start to his career.
No teams want RB's to get hurt, but they get hurt more than any other position players. Especially if they're the sole guy getting carries. And that's why you don't see RB's of that ilk anymore.
If the Bears(or any team for that matter) can find the balance for health amongst 2 backs, that's a win within itself.

It was more the contract. I thought 8m a year was steep but RB market was better than I expected...S market is the lagging market this year
But now that u bring up Herbert, 8m a year for swift looks bad again
He had high ypc cause of the eagles OL
Oddly enough swift and miles Sanders both finished 5th in the league in rushing yards with eagles
We know how the panthers signing of Sanders went

Let's forget about the Bears additions so far, even though they make sense to me at least.
Let's look at their subtractions so far(asterisk representing starters)
PFF Grades:
S Eddie Jackson 58.6 *
DT Justin Jones 49.3 *
G/C Cody Whitehair 45
WR Chase Claypool 55.4
WR Darnell Mooney 55.2 *
All kicked to the curb by Poles. See ya and good luck. And let's not forget that they fired OC Luke Getsy after the season.
Meanwhile other teams like the Bills, have lost really good players to free agency because they are close to or over the cap.
And then there are the teams who always fuckin suck every year and people wonder why...
The Cardinals signed Justin Jones for 3 years and gave him 31 million. The Falcons signed Mooney and gave him 39 million. What game film are they watching? The Achilles torn Cousins to Darnell Mooney connection doesn't sound appetizing.

@dubz4dummyz
8 million a year doesn't sound that bad for a RB. Swift was pretty electric coming into the league with the Lions. If he wouldn't of gotten injured multiple times, who knows where he'd be. Maybe the Bears are trying to catch lightning in a bottle?
Either way, I don't think that this contract would kill them if he doesn't pan out.

Ryan Poles is doing work. I personally am not the biggest Keenan Allen fan. He has injury and conditioning issues every year. But he came cheap, only cost a 4th round pick. His resume speaks for itself.
The Bears now have only 4 draft picks remaining this year. I betcha they trade the #1 pick.

I was listening to sports talk radio and a rumor was floating around the Eagles were thinking about Fields as a back up which I think is BS. I think the Bears bypass Williams and keep him. Chicago is looking good imho.

@sportschat
Here's a thought, how about the Bears take Williams #1, and keep Fields with the intention of trading him mid-season to a team who suffers a catastrophic qb injury like Minny & Jets did last year...there's no reason now for the Bears to go all in with their seven duece offsuit,,,Fields value currently is at a low, but will automatically get a phantom bump in overall trade bait the moment a decent team loses their qb.
