If I may interject, I believe Bigred has a habit of mixing metaphors.

He obviously likes them.  He believes a metaphor can express his thoughts better than a simple flooring salesperson.

On that note, we can dissect the term "I own you like a rented mule".

I believe he is using the saying "I own you" and also part of the metaphor "I'll whip you like a rented mule".

Almost sounds like a Virginia plantation owner circa 1800.

He gets excited and in his rush to display his dominance and intelligence, he mixes his thoughts and his message becomes garbled.
