Alien just gave a 10 star rating for Penn St. to win, so I have to hope my other bets are help me recoup my losses.
I'm gonna go into his thread now to have some fun, you'll like it.
Anyone watch that Tulane/usc game? That was highly entertaining.

I agree on Tulane being entertaining. They have made me money this year so I had them. Question : Did you think the officiating in the last 17 seconds looked like USC was going to win if the officials had any chance at making it happen ? The so-called experts on TV all agreed that the targeting review against USC in the last few seconds was textbook targeting. No, according to the review. Then, on the winning touchdown for Tulane , the official who tried to call the winning TD pass incomplete, had a birds-eye view of a catch that was never more than 3 inches off the ground. Obvious reversal, but I get nervous when these officials signal incomplete with such anxious enthusiasm that it appears they have an interest in the outcome. Was I just biased because I had Tulane, in your opinion ? Thank you.
Happy New Year to all on this site and thanks to Hugh for his informed, humorous insights.

The Bills have only played 3 games vs teams who are currently better than .500
Vikings, lost 30-33 Chiefs, won 24-20 Ravens, won 23-20
Somehow their sos rating by dvoa is 10th. 15th sos per Sagarin.
Wanna guess which team has the best record vs teams with winning records this season?
Also, you gave a few stats supporting your play on the Lions, but do those same advantages apply once you apply home/away splits?

Nope ... I just got home from watching the Purdue-LSU game in person

@undermysac
With Det-GB being the night game, and seattle favored by 7 over the Rams, there's a good chance your +4.5 on the Lions will be +7 at kickoff.
Maybe consider eating some juice and buying a little back?
Just a thought

So I actually had a decent feeling about my Utah bet....until Can Rising left the game.
Should've hedged at the half, but talked myself out of it.

Just woke up from a medicine induced coma...one of those wtf day is it, did I miss work type of naps.
@1129ken
I noticed that ref too, he seemed certain that it wasn't a catch. If I had $ on it, I'd be right there with ya.
@Hugh_Jorgan
You could very well be right. I made that bet before the official schedule was released. I'm assuming a lot of lines will move, and there will be big line moves along with it.
All though I'm seeing Lions +4.5(-115) now at a couple of my books. Early $ is with me in that regard, nothing else.
Night game in Lambeau, gonna be cold as can be, and the total is up to 49.5. That's surprising.

Thanks, Hugh. I hope you and your loved ones have the greatest of New Years. Back when the Dirt Man was running this thread, I posted picks. Moderately unsuccessful--about 51% or so. Flip a coin. I certainly couldn't match the 70% your truth-challenged friend/nemesis Scalabrine claimed, until you crushed him like a diseased rodent in the match game you played with him. I hope Club is healthy and prosperous, but it doesn't appear he's coming back. With all considerable and absolute due respect to Club and the other terrific authors who have written here, I believe you should consider making this the HughjorganClub Newsletter going forward. We know you don't gamble , so all the more objectivity, not to mention the humor. I think Getty, Sac, Cyrax, Biscuit and all the other long-time ClubDirt members would love this, although, as my record suggests, I'm probably half wrong here. I think I know your answer, but Happy New Year !

I am told that Damar Hamlin has been intubated and is currently listed in critical condition. @fox19

I saw the hit. It didn't seem like any hit that was out of the ordinary, but reading up on Twitter it looks like it was commotio cordis -- he got hit in the very spot you don't want to get hit with a lot of impact. It happens more often in hockey, but rarely happens. My thoughts and prayers are with Damar. He's also a good dude of the field.

Based on a variety of reports, the @NFL did not make the decision to suspend the Bengals-Bills game. Rather, players/captains and coaches from both teams, who had witnessed Bills safety Damar Hamlin getting CPR for 8 minutes, said they would not continue the game. #NFL

I don't know for certain if I blame the NFL. They probably wanted to gather enough information before pulling the plug.
This is how I think it went down:
The refs probably said let’s go and the players said no. It went up the chain and they temporarily suspended the game to get the full extent of Hamlin's health. Once it was clear he wasn’t ok, they cancelled the game.
Whether the NFL should've known the full extent and seriousness of Hamlin's situation sooner, I don't know. I try not to rush to judgement before having all the facts. With that said, it wouldn't surprise me if the man's health wasn't the prioritized thought in their heads.

I hope this isn't what I think it means.

Everything was done correctly by everyone in the end. It's an unprecedented event.
About the commotio cordis speculation, I have heard of that happening in baseball before. When a ball hits the heart flush.
It's an extremely rare event to have happen to anyone in any circumstance, but it is a thing.
Good night gentlemen, take care of yourselves
