Goran Dragic runs their point. He doesn't need mentioning.
Go look at the starting lineup for the team that beat Portland in the preseason and tell me how many guys are still with the team.
Last season was a debacle for the Blazers filled with injuries so the only relevant thing to me that is worth mentioning this year is the losing streak they are trying to snap.
looked it up. great point. dragic had 19 off the bench

Papa, if you don't like it...just ignore it. It's really quite simple.
He can't. He needs to follow me around all the betting forums. Go look up my previous capping threads. He's in virtually every one spewing the same crap.

Doesn't matter man. It's all relative and bears little on your roll, which matters to you. I've answered this question many times and few, if any, have cared.
I will say this, I will be crippled if I lose this game....
And if I win? There will be a large, immediate cashout.

I don't know how you can feel so confident about this spot. Everything you say about how much Portland has improved and how bad Phoenix will be are all the reasons Portland may take this game lightly while Phoenix will be playing all out. And as you pointed out, Portland has to play IN Denver Friday, then has the Spurs and the Rockets. Hard to believe they aren't looking ahead, and also trying to save energy knowing they will be playing at high altitude in 2 days.
Last year the magic had the fewest wins (20). Their opening game was at home against Denver, and the were 6 points underdogs. The Magic won by 13.
The Bobcats had the 2nd fewest wins (21). Their opening game was at home against Indiana, and they were 7 point underdogs. The Bobcats won outright.
So if I had my money on Portland, I'd be afraid that the team spent all off season thinking about competing with the top teams/players in the west, and will be flat opening the season in Phoenix against a bunch of nobodies.
There are counterpoints made in this thread to virtually everything you stated.
1) Portland may take this game lightly because of the tough schedule ahead.
First off, no team takes game ONE of the season lightly. That is a game you want to win. Secondly, it is precisely because of their losing streak that they would want to focus on THIS GAME and not the very losable 3 upcoming, which is why they made the highly unusual move of sending scouts to three Suns preseason games!
The Bobcats and Magic have almost nothing to do with this spot. That is a great stretch in logic at best.

@steven and now they have bledose who clogs up the backcourt more than help it with Dragic
@CM not to worry, it's up to 6
@jtoler - A little lesson for you: something is long-winded when there is little substance and/or repetition. See the responses here to see if my OP qualifies as either.

If Portland was a bad team, they would be worried about their losing streak. As you pointed out, and I agree with, they are not a bad team. They are greatly improved and expect to be battling for a playoff spot all year. I highly doubt they are expecting to start 1-3. They sent scouts to three suns games because the team is totally different then last year and they don't know the players, not because they want the game more. I promise you, nobody on that team spent the offseason focusing on the suns and ending a losing streak, they were focused on making the playoffs.
Parts 3 & 4 for your reasoning behind this bet were the suns are one of the worst 2 teams in the league. 1st game of the season, at home, 6-7 point underdog, worst 2 teams, is the exact same spot Magic & Bobcats were in last year, I don't understand how that's not relevant. Especially since both teams were taken lightly and won outright.
If I was going to wait for a spot to get half my bankroll in, it wouldn't be one were the team I'm betting against will be more focused than the team I'm betting on. I can't wait to get my money on Portland Sat for their home opener against the Spurs.

A line of -6 away is a line of about 12/12.5 at home and that is INSANE for a team that might be an eighth seed at best in the West if they even make the playoffs. I don't care how bad the Suns are.
Just look at last night's line. The Pacers, a world class eastern conference team who will contend for the EC championship, was giving 12/12.5 to Orlando. Did you see Orlando's starting five? Not as bad as the Suns because of Vucevic but not significantly better! And the Pacers were laying 12.
Now the Blazers, a fringe WC playoff team, would lay 12 to the Suns at home (which this -6 is equivalent to?). No way. Awful line that pisses me off.
I'm gonna wait till noon to see if it falls a bit but if you have 5.5 that may be the best you'll see so take it.

I can assure you the losing steak matters because they finished last year with a MAJOR embarrassment and I can assure you this game means enough to send scouts to to see what kind of offense they may run under a new coach. That means THIS game means something, a lot actually.
And you can have the matchup vs. the Spurs. That will be a light line at home against a monster. No thanks.

I beleive it matters to you, but i don't that it matters to the players more than the games against Den, SA, and Hou. And I've never heard any player say "we had a scout at 3 straight games for this team, so I tried extra hard."

Scal: I think smushmachine makes the most valid counterpoints. Plus, I did look up that Phoenix win in Portland. Marcus Morief, the twin who will play, dropped 15. Bledsoe had 6 points, 9 assists and 4 steals and was +23 in the game. Dragic dropped 19 off the bench. Fry chipped in 14 off the bench. You saw what the collection of castoffs called the Lakers did tonight at home against the might 9 point favorite Clippers. I hope you win cause I LOVE your write-ups and the discussion they create. I'm going against you for the points smushmachine made and my boy Eric Bledsoe.
