This is the tired old argument you hear all the time on NFL Sunday's when analysts who never played critique a play, and a former player on the pre or post-game panel takes personal offense because the person speaking never took a snap. This is egomania of the highest order and you needn't read any further to get the drift of what he is about to say (and trust me it was long-winded, mind-numbing and trite and I think he tried to sell me a ShamWow and a SlapChop somewhere in there as well. I did read it and it provides NOTHING in the way of disproving that blacks are regularly discriminated on the job and for jobs in large numbers all the time as studies have shown).

#2 Reckless disregard

Weeble then steps up the the plate in post #170 and whiffs worse than a boy with a tennis racket trying to get a hit off a 100mph hurler. 

First, he mischaracterizes my situation by saying I try to PUSH my views on others. This is untrue because if you do a search on my posts, you will see my views are in response to race based threads that continually highlight some kind of black crime or sordid news story (while that same person will rarely if ever post a story about white crime, and if they do, the thread will only be about that individual, apart from their whiteness and the crime committed. This of course would never happen with 'black crime' because to whites here the two words go hand in hand).

Second, he calls my efforts nonsense and this is, at its core, the reason why I must counter with such an aggressive stance. 

This is likely a man who could give a rat's ass about racism in America and its effects on millions. It's nonsense folks! His disregard for the issue needs balanced opposition and luckily for him, I am here to provide that.

#3 Avoidance

Jay - seems like a nice guy right? Okay. Capable of articulating a point? Yeah. But then he calls someone out to debate and they do so. What's his reaction? He piggybacks off a mods response and runs for the hills naked as the day he was born. This is simply a cop-out and an embarrassing one at that.

NoWorries then tells me I seek ENTITLEMENTS for blacks when all of #158 highlighted the LACK OF OPPORTUNITY to work; to attain meaningful employment; to have a steady income; to be autonomous. When you read about SAT scores plummeting and America falling behind countries like China in Math and Science, Exhibit A is this guy with regard to the Land of the dunce, Home of idiot windbag. 

So boys and girls, when it comes to responders on covers.com, pay little attention, even to the higher ups. They don't have a leg to stand on, and their third leg is lacks is only accompanied by an empty sack...

So let me get this straight. You are taking numbers from a nearly 12-13 year old study...that's not even relavent and is so old that times have changed trmendously.....do you live in a cave....you do realize since then we have a black President know right....
Here is their most recent findings Link ....Most importantly: Al and Ruth Blumrosen, professors at Rutgers University Law School - Newark, found that in 1999:
Two million minorities and women were affected by intentional job discrimination, mainly by hard core discriminators.
Approximately 75% of large establishments did not appear to discriminate in the statistics.
Eight million minorities and women were better off than under the occupational distribution of 1975.
These were some of the results of applying Supreme Court definitions for Intentional Job Discrimination to EEO1 data, using the methodology found in the National & State Reports of comparing each job site with similar establishments in the same industry and MSA......
 
Scal, you seem to educated, but you are relying on old data.....my point about being an employer and providing my feedback on the situation is that I obviously can speak about with first hand knowledge of the situation...It's not like I have a company with 10 people...We run a business that enteracts with employers from Agriculture to Construction to Law Firms, so if anyone could provide such feedback with any merit it would be a business owner who works with other businesses and employs nearly 10,000 people a year for the last 20+ years....So my points hold merit based on the fact that we are in the hiring of employees business....

I brought up the EEOC reporting because that is how employers report Age, Race and Gender to the Government where your statistics comre from....I create that report for our business, so once again I know what is going on....So we hire people, employ them, process payroll for them and produce reports to Government Agencies that assist in the statistics the public sees, so I know what I'm saying....
 
The problem is that just like your outdated source from the Blumrosen's, the EEOC did not have the ability nor the means to collect the necessary data like they do today until the 90's....the report is being updated as needed....now that they are collecting the data and mandating the reporting, which they did in the past but could not enforce, the numbers show vast improvements...Title VII was a great thing that President Lyndon Johnson created for Equal Employment Opportunity...Then when President Richard Nixon instituted it for all Federal Government Jobs the EEO governing laws were created.....The problem is trying to use data derived from the 90's is so obsolete and no longer relavent in today's society....Truer numbers published more recently are alot more acurate and reflect properly...Some of the reasons the numbers are greater are due to more effective EEO-1 reporting and how it's policed in the submittal process....Back in the 70's, 80's and 90's it was estimated that companies with 500 or fewer employers didn't even remit data to the Agency....Now it is required or you are fined.....

i have been one of the few people here who has attempted to engage in a real debate with you as opposed to just calling you racist or someone who is just out for a reaction.

backpedaling?  i could give a fuck what you think about me because you are not part of my real life.  and speaking of real life, this is the first time i've been on covers since my last remark, because..... wait for it..... i've got a real life.

piggybacking off a mod?  i think the few people on here who have gotten to know me a bit would tell you i say what i think and i certainly don't need a mod to prove my point.  this site is enjoyable for me, but not nearly important enough to dictate my opinion on anything.

I gave you proof of what is literal employer based racism in a large-scale study and actual stats on income and hiring inequality with equal qualifications among races and your response was a stoned Sean Penn-esque "uhhh...what he said" straight out of Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

And please, you and all the guys who use the "I have a life" line with regard to posting on covers make yourself look worse and worse every time you say it WHILE POSTING ON COVERS.

Yes, I am using numbers from a 12 year old study. I love how anyone who wants to deny the impact of systematic and institutional racism in this country uses the tired "well that's in the past" mantra. 

It's amazing how irrelevant 'the past' is when it comes to racism. I wonder why this is? Could it be because of centuries of slavery and slave trade, segregation, race riots, organized Klu Klux Klan support by state and local governments, thousands of lynchings, an unbelievable and virtually unquantifiable amount of unjust arrest, conviction, and execution of minorities, and that most minorities incarcerated anywhere on the planet are here in the US; ALL this conducted and carried out by caucasian males?

Of course not...That's a past most don't wanna think about! It'll ruin their bacon and egg breakfast in the morning while they peruse the sports pages. And where's the coffee (Bitch better make it good or else!)? Sound familiar? Of course it does.

But then, when presented with modern-day statistics that are just over a decade old, statistics that quickly disprove anyone who believes racism is no longer a salient issue in this country, twelve, YES TWELVE years ago suddenly is irrelevant. 

You go as far as to equate 12 years with 200+ years with the "why don't you go back to slavery" comment. Even the worst covers has to offer doesn't stoop that low.

WIth that kind of thinking, are you willing to tell someone that somberly recognized the deaths that occurred on 9/11 last week that they may as well recognize the Civil War dead as well? Do you see the comparison there? Why is the past relevant in the case of a terrorist attack that took thousands of lives, but is irrelevant when it comes to a social issue that affects tens of millions, and has done so for centuries in this country?

And as far as the study itself, a 12 year old study is quite meaningful to draw upon due to the simple fact studies on systematic racism simply are NOT conducted that often. Why? Well no one wants to fund them and prove something about their country they don't want to believe (like yourself) and also, the mainstream media doesn't want to report it. The media likes to report a very different kind of racism like black on black crime, white on black crime, or black on white crime but hardly ever large-scales studies that would be a wake-up call to this country. Lastly, you do know it takes years to compile, verify, and peer-review this data. It could be up to five years before a study is released. You can simply dismiss ANY study because it would, by definition, be in the past almost half a decade at its release. Of course, anyone with a clear mind who wants to provide cited evidence would do so, instead of resorting to empty platitudes like you've done by citing that a single biracial male is president (one that has been used so often in my life, my ears are starting to bleed because of it) and therefore, positive change of real substance has occurred in this country with regard to race.

You need to learn how to highlight and utilize the more salient points of a study in your argumentation. Who here would deny that women and minorities WEREN'T better off since 1975? The problem with your statement is that you only want to quote what suits your viewpoint instead of confronting the real issue of the study (which suits my viewpoint but is no less true and needs to be answered).

To help you comprehend, I'll give you an example.  If a researcher asked you to present results on US birth rates and infant mortality in the past 10 years, you could answer "Tens of millions of babies have successfully been birthed." This statement of course, wouldn't be denied by anyone and consequently, you wouldn't be bringing anything to the table of interest or worth. But, if you reported that the US had one of the worst infant mortality rate of any industrialized country while spending twice as much on health care, although disturbing, you would have made a relevant point and sparked the interest of (and horror in) the entire United States health care system.

The fact that there is significant discrimination against blacks in the American employment sector at the end of the 20th century is the relevant point, NOT the fact minorities are better off when compared to 25 years prior.

All your comments about the EEOC and how businesses report discrimination are public knowledge. Unfortunately, the EEOC has neither the resources nor the staff to effectively enforce the laws it's required to enforce. How do we know this? More statistics:

1. According to an MIT study by economists at the University of Chicago, job applicants with white sounding names are 50% more likely to get a job interview than those with black sounding names (This study happened in 2004. Does that date allow for relevant discussion or should we toss it in the 'old as slavery' pile?). How could the EEOC ever accuse an employer of such conduct when an interview hasn't even been conducted? It's the subjectivity of employers, the ability to deny interviews and hirings for meaningful sufficiently-paid positions, that can't be policed. This is THE MAJOR area that needs to be policed since it is the doorway TO employment to begin with. 

And please, stop acting all high and mighty because you are an employer and fill out streams of endless paperwork. You are the LAST person any study would ever want to question because you can't have any true objectivity. You can/will/and DO attempt to cast employers in a positive light with regard to racial discrimination because YOU are one of them. It's called 'cognitive dissonance' and it's your inability to associate your occupation with such an insidious social attitude. Therefore, you simply deny it exists.

Now as far as your "We have a black president now" comment goes, all I can say is that your idiocy has peaked to Mt. Everest levels. When Benazir Bhutto was elected the Prime Minister of Pakistan twice, in the notoriously female-repressive Muslim country of Pakistan, did anyone in the world believe that females would then be treated as equals to men, or even be treated as equals in a way that the world would have a more positive view of female autonomy and equality within that country's borders? Of course not. And there was such a backlash, is it any surprise that Bhutto was assassinated in 2007? SImilarly, does anyone outside of America believe racism is now dead within it's borders just because one biracial male was elected as President?

Maybe those individuals would ask what the racial makeup of Congress is (which the President must act with jointly to pass law). They would find blacks are underrepresented proportionally in the House with only 44 of 438 seats (10%) and had NO SEATS in the Senate (yes, NO SEATS) out of 96 total. 

Maybe that same person would ask why the net worth of black families was 11 to 1 before Obama's election (still astounding in and of itself) and jumped to TWENTY to 1 today (makes you really think about the hardest hit American demographic groups due to the global financial crises).

The REALITY is something you are disconnected with on the issue of race. Whites alone would have elected a white representative with 54% of the white vote going to McCain. 

Finally, Obama's win as president shows that ONE BLACK MALE is fully capable of demonstrating his intelligence, wisdom, and leadership to win a job he is interviewing for; the highest in the land at that (and one that needed a massive block of black voters to secure a win). But what Obama's win doesn't show is that NORMAL job interviews don't last for 18 months on national TV, internet and radio like the running for president does; it doesn't show that NORMAL job interviews don't involve MILLIONS of voters who can be influenced; and it certainly doesn't show that NORMAL job seekers have a small handful of evaluators and often ONE evaluator who can already have the implicit negative biases that have been conditioned within them since BIRTH against people of color.

you are absurd.  i enjoyed interacting with you, but now it's just getting annoying.  again, i think you are a child who is not willing to listen to those who may be older (and yes wiser) than you. 

you can vomit your studies and your facts and in between the attempts at individual thought and opinion.  you are a buffoon, an intelligent buffoon, but a buffoon nonetheless.  intelligent people learn from one another. 

sadly it's become remarkably clear that you don't care about black people, or advancing their plight.  you don't care about racism.  you don't care about making real changes. you've been told time and time again that you would be much more inclined to actually make a difference if you engaged with people, not spoke at them from your silly little pulpit.

I will not offer olive branches and white doves to covers members who continually defame/degrade/deride an entire race (ever so subtlely, shrouded in 'black crime' threads) so their own white supremacy (a term that goes well beyond a white bed sheet in terms of attitude) is fortified.

You ADMITTED there's a problem with this site when you said blacks wouldn't 'feel very welcome' by what they read on this site (a comment that obviously toned down as to not appear to take my side of things). Educators do not fail when that message is not willingly received; yet, the message is no less true. Caucasians won't take kindly to the fact they are being told they are beneficiaries of massive privilege that is part and parcel of their opportunities for success. This is about opportunity to work hard and reap benefits, not just working hard per se. America, has never, and never will be a meritocracy and the minorities in this country, contrary to what caucasians believe, can attest to this.

True Scal, but what is the goal of the educator? To educate, right? If the message is not being willingly received by the audience of the speaker, then wouldn't the true educator then figure out a way to present his message in a way that was much more easily digestible?

I encounter this problem frequently in what I do. Part of my job is trying to understand what is the best way to present my message in the hopes that 12 strangers see things my way, not my opponent's way. Right now Scal, because of how you present your message, your opponents have wide open holes to drive through to distract people by pointing to your methods of argument rather than the actual substance of your claims, which is really what is important, right?

I think Scal's goal is laudable. I think his means are completely 100% flawed.

how can some one fix the problem when they are the problem, you will never change his opinion and views of the white man which is total hatred nothing more nothing less......anything he does is self serving and not for the greater good........his cause serves no purpose other than to fan the flames of the fire......

I don't think Scal is the problem. I think he looks at life through a vacuum, which might affect his personal levels of happiness (I just get the impression that he's an unhappy person on a day to day basis, but I could be wrong.) His goals are worthy, his means to reaching his goals are wholly flawed IMO.

dude, i think we are on the exact same page.  scal is one of three things...

1) super passionate but no social skills.
2) super passionate but either doesn't care about how he sounds or feels so typecast at this point there is no reversing
3) loves the attention, maybe not even overtly, but he loves it just the same, in which case he is doing far more harm than good.

it's such a shame because he's intelligent enough, and obviously headstrong enough to actually do things for the better.
