What we are saying is that covid vaccines were effective against the original strain, not as much against subsequent strains. We are saying that you can't draw direct parallels between young, healthy person's contracting covid but avoiding serious illness and the Covid vaccine, because these groups were avoiding serious illness before the vaccine.

Let's do a though experiment. Let's say you have a building you wish to secure. You obtain a robotic security guard. You program it to detect mohawk hairstyles, because of a potentially dangerous gang prevalent around this building who's trademark is the mohawk. You program it to shoot anyone with a mohawk hairstyle, and you train it on punk rock style high spike mohawks. What happens when it comes across Mister T? Does it shoot Mister T? What about a high fashion style faux hawk? What happens when some wise ass gang banger cuts it mohawk so short that it barely qualifies as a mohawk. This security guard isn't a sentient being that you have trained to detect threats. It's a robot programmed to detect mohawks. Think about the how effectively capchas trip up robots.
These vaccines weren't programmed to detect covid, they were programmed to detect mohawks. Our bodies have to learn to recognize the virus itself as a threat and build up immunity.
