Even as President Donald Trump privately admitted to journalist Bob Woodward earlier
this year that the coronavirus was highly contagious and dangerous, Trump claimed he
wasn't worried about contracting the virus himself.
CNN on Friday obtained a new audio recording from Woodward's April 13 interview with
Trump that sheds new light on the President's mindset. While Trump admitted to
Woodward the virus is a "plague" that "rips you apart," he has publicly resisted wearing
a mask and has flouted social-distancing recommendations.
When Woodward pressed the President about whether he was worried about becoming
infected, Trump dismissed concerns about his own health.
"You're risking getting it, of course," said Woodward. "The way you move around and
have those briefings and deal with people. Are you worried about that?"

"No, I'm not. I don't know why I'm not. I'm not," the President responded.

With hospitals overwhelmed, democrat and republican states direct recovering covid patients to nursing homes as allowed by federal guidelines.  Federal government help could have reduce need for states to make such decisions.  But nursing homes aren't forced to accept such patients if safety requirements cannot be met.  New York health department dispels notion that admission policy is a driver of covid deaths.  Peak in cases occurred before arrival of covid patients.  Their report concludes infected visitors and nursing home staff are likely the main cause of covid deaths. 

Democrat states such as New York and California have a lower percentage of covid deaths in nursing homes than republican states such as Texas.  Also US has lower percentage of covid deaths in nursing homes than other countries such as Canada, Norway and Spain.  To better protect residents and staff, Center for medicare services call for more testing, protective equipment, registered nurses, salary, infection control training and federal enforcement of standards.

Team Cuomo’s own July report admitted that more than 6,300 recovering COVID patients got sent to nursing homes. Fifty-eight nursing homes didn’t have a single case of the virus — in residents or staff — before their arrival.

And the state still refuses to say how many died after getting infected in a care home. The full count, including deaths after transfer to a hospital, is likely twice the 6,600-plus who died in the homes.

NY State Senate is trying to pass legislation to get access to the real numbers that Cuomo has but won’t release.
