According to propublica, lack of national standards hinder efforts to stop virus spread.  As covid cases skyrocket nationwide, the extent of public health response varies from state to state.  Resulting in lax states with weak mitigation spreading virus to restrictive states with mask mandates.  Virus doesn't respect geographic boundaries and states can't wall themselves off from neighbors.  Doctor Fauci says US needs an uniform approach to fight virus spread instead of a disjointed one.  In a pandemic, infections anywhere are infections everywhere.  A chain is only as strong as its weakest link.

6. There has only been 168,000 deaths outside of nursing homes and long term care facilities.

7. 168,000 divided by 320,000,000 is a survivability rate of 99.9995% outside of nursing homes and long term care facilities.

President Donald Trump’s Dept. of Veterans Affairs is throwing away extra coronavirus vaccine found in vials from Pfizer that are designed to provide five inoculations.

Why?

“Inventory monitoring.”

Just one day after the doctors and nurses started inoculating Americans with the desperately-awaited coronavirus vaccine, reports started coming in that many vials, which hold five injections, had enough extra for one or two more. Two more injections from a five-injection vial is literally an extra 40%, which means up to an extra 40% of Americans could be protected from the deadly disease earlier than first expected.

An internal memo obtained by Radio.com (formerly CBS Radio) reveals the VA “is planning to discard additional doses of the coronavirus vaccine from Pfizer vials that arrived overfilled, despite Food and Drug Administration guidance to use all doses during the public health emergency.”

Officials at Veterans Affairs say they “argued using the extra doses could jeopardize future allocations of the vaccine.”

“VA officials don’t want medical staff to administer more than the five doses per vial, and any additional doses should be ‘discarded,’ according to a memo obtained by Connecting Vets, which was sent to Veterans Health Administration pharmacy chiefs and others at the department Thursday morning.”

But the Food and Drug Administration, which regulates vaccines, has publicly directed medical professionals to use all the vaccine available.

“CDC is requiring strict inventory monitoring of this product,” the VA memo reads. “Drawing extra doses will make the data questionable.”

“Sending what appears to be inaccurate data to CDC may jeopardize VA’s ability to get additional allocations of product in the future,” the memo, from Jennifer L. Zacher,  adds.

Nearly 4000 Americans died from COVID-19 just yesterday. Over 310,000 Americans have already been killed by the coronavirus.

it will take about 4-6  months for everyone to have opportunity to get innoculated but sadly about 20% - 40% say they will not do it .

it requires roughly 75% innoculated at bare minimum to achieve a great deal of herd immunity . unless 75% cooperate the virus is likely to still b with us same time next year becuz of those people . the rump lickers follow whatever rump says so if he came out strongly and repeatedly day after day preaching about how everyone must get vaccinated  then it would happen .

but rump wont do it

Anything over 50% will be better than you think. If we are at 50% by spring, we'll be sitting pretty. 75% is widely accepted as a herd immunity threshold but there are other mitigating factors. Age is a huge factor. I'd happily take anything over 50%. As far as where we'll be next year, we need to already be worried about mutations.

in a single herd maybe .  but the problem is in america members of this herd r free to move around from herd to herd spreading the virus . therefore 75% at bare minimum will be required and remember even then it is not 100% protection nor does it kill off the virus . the vaccines only allege 95% success not 100 and also they have concerns that the protection could be short term just like the flu

Good luck getting 75% of Americans to do anything. If the government mandated breathing, 30% of the population would instantly die of suffocation. That's with a mandate. For literally breathing. The vaccine isn't mandated.

So if the scientists and infectious disease experts are right then this thing is still going to be with us for another year at least and masking, social distancing, and crowd sizing will be a feature of our nation for that length of time.

Science and data have painted a clear path to beat coronavirus and reduce transmissions.  However it's hard to get people to follow rules.  For countries, most successes  against pandemic have been achieved through collective action.  For examples, vaccination and mask wearing.  Also helpful are stronger social safety net and public health infrastructure.  US individual approach isn't working against a national problem that requires national remedy.  Collective action takes courage.  Wearing a mask or accepting a vaccine is a act of patriotism.  If 90% of population complies, thousands of lives could be saved.  The sooner the pandemic ends, the sooner life can return to normal.
