Hey Eric Cantor...

As Cool Arrow stated, one can be a legal resident of the US, pay taxes, qualify for SS, but never have the right to vote. I work with a guy from Canada that is here on a work visa as a computer engineer and he cannot vote. He does pay taxes and files a tax return every year.

Those are totally different circumstances. I worked with a few with the same situation you mentioned. They either don't want to become a citizen here or if they do want to and their employers could file for them(a path) after certain years provided that they fit certain criterions. In addition, their legal status(work permits) could be renewed or revoked and if you really think of it, it's just not the same.

Why anyone would be happy about this (beyond the far right wing fascists) is beyond me.

What this means to to those not beholdent to a political party is that the Democratic candidate won't even have to run on his platform.

Instead, he will be able to point to the statement of Brat when he says that women love rape, abortion should be outlawed even in cases of incest, that happy marriage can be cured with therapy, or that immigrant families who have lived here, worked, paid taxes, and have committed no crimes, should be shipped to the Mexican border with just the clothes on their backs.

Brat's win only makes the Republicans seem further out of touch whilst allowing the Dems to spend more money and tax us even further.

Why can't Republicans who are for less spending and less taxes don't care about social issues, and are for normal immigration reform ever win?

I would further add regarding immigration, I am not Cantor fan but I can't find any statement where he took any odd position on immigration.

He was for deporting those with violent criminal convictions.

The OP brought up amesty, but the overwhelming American population supports the idea that immigrants who have been here for some time, established a family, worked, paid taxes, and committed not crimes be allowed to stay.

Is it the suggestion that those in the Republican party are not supporting the idea that the above should be deported as well? Good luck with that in the general election.

I'll save it for when he has to campaign on these issues.

I honestly can't wait. Every moderate Republican will be distancing themselves from him ala the quotes above.

And....let's see who funds him before the general election.

Maybe he is the candidate that many want....less influence in politics, less taxes, cut in spendings, doesn't care about social issues.

I just haven't seen the tea party support any candidates like this. The requirements for the tea party appear to be anti-abortion, anti-happy marriage, more government intrusion.
