The OP brought up amesty, but the overwhelming American population supports the idea that immigrants who have been here for some time, established a family, worked, paid taxes, and committed not crimes be allowed to stay.
Is it the suggestion that those in the Republican party are not supporting the idea that the above should be deported as well? Good luck with that in the general election.
You mean no crimes other than coming here illegally, right?
I personally would like to see every single illegal alien in this country deported, but it will never happen and honestly isn't practical. So while many would agree to allow those who have been here for some time as you describe, to stay in the US, that doesn't mean citizenship. Legal status/residency but no citizenship or voting rights is a fair compromise, which is why it probably will never happen. The dems will cry and moan and demonize anyone that doesn't want to provide full citizenship for these lawbreakers.
Stay disciplined and manage your bankroll

I'll use the same argument I do with happy marriage here (and one that was used against me when I opposed it).
Those law abiding citizens are paying taxes and contibuting to society and many have children who are now asimilating into the community. They aren't harming you one bit. Restricting their freedoms harms any true American. Justice denied anywhere is justice denied everywhere-MLK
You are letting your emotional prejudices influence pragmatic thinking.

i'll add that many, many of them were invited here and given great jobs (for them) and then when the housing market and the rest of the economy went to hell, these companies decided they didn't need all that labor and brown people around and wanted them gone. but now they are here and have families.

First of all, they are not citizens of the US, they are illegal residents. They most certainly are not law abiding, they broke the law by coming here. The first offense is apparently nothing more than a civil offense, but coming back here illegally after being deported is a felony. Common sense tells us there are many here under this scenario.
How can you say them being here are not hurting me or anyone else? There are millions of illegal workers flooding the labor market with low skilled workers thus keeping wages low. Simple supply and demand. This also adds to the number of Americans on welfare. They have put an extreme burden on our already failing public school system.
There are billions of tax dollars spent on welfare for illegals. Almost 30% of our federal prison system is foreign nationals. Tens of billions of dollars are sent out of this country back "home" by those here illegally.
Bottom line - Illegal immigration is costing each and everyone of us.
Yes it is not pragmatic to deport all of the illegal aliens. I could live with a deal that includes effectively shutting down the border, deporting all that have committed crimes other than being here illegally, and providing legal status to those already here and established in the community. Seems fair. However, a fair deal will never come about due to the politics involved. I doubt the dems will ever go for anything other than full citizenship and a plan that will allow those already here to bring over every relative that is currently out of the country.

dj -- can you link me to these statements attributed to Brat re: "he says that women love rape, abortion should be outlawed even in cases of incest, that happy marriage can be cured with therapy, or that immigrant families who have lived here, worked, paid taxes, and have committed no crimes, should be shipped to the Mexican border with just the clothes on their backs"?
Is that legitimate rape or rape-rape ?

O'Reilly?
You're blind following of the Republican party has led you to conclussion in bold. This very thread contradicts the belief that the Dems are responsible.
What I placed in bold was Cantor's position and he was voted out to the giddiness of your party (with many blaming immigration).
Basic math.
As for the rest of your post, notice how I said law abiding working immigrants and you referred to the prisons and those on welfare.
Do you know why you did that?

I never said the dems were soley responsible. The Republicans and big business are just as responisible for the current problem. I give nobody a pass on this and found it mind boggling how under Bush we did not close down the borders immediately after 9/11.
Sorry but Cantor's stance on allowing citizenship is more than amnesty/legal status and his reason of "it's biblical" is a no go for me and apparently VA voters.
Yes I went off on a more broader aspect of illegal immigration and it's total effects. As far as those that you refer to, it would be naive to think that none of them are on welfare or are you saying only those that are working should be allowed to stay and those on welfare cut off? There can be working immigrants here with kids born here that are getting welfare. Those kids qualify for programs just by being born here, so to try to imply that those working immigrants do not collect welfare is flat out wrong.

Instead, he will be able to point to the statement of Brat when he says that women love rape, abortion should be outlawed even in cases of incest, that happy marriage can be cured with therapy, or that immigrant families who have lived here, worked, paid taxes, and have committed no crimes, should be shipped to the Mexican border with just the clothes on their backs.
Sounds like a bitter far left smear on Bart ..a man who earned a Masters from a Theological Seminiary..
I see the libs are all in a rage over the fact that the TEA party is not dead and that a TEA party candidate humiliated someone the democrats thought they had in their corner..

...and it's too funny when democrats talk about immigration reform remember it's code for amnesty ...it means "come me on it " .

not yet, but if he wants to keep this lottery ticket he just won, i.e. government office, he will be. maybe i'm wrong about this guy, but i doubt it.
Lottery ticket......really
I'd say just the opposite. PATRIOT...some citizen trying to do his part to save the Republic.. Club, I really don't mean to be mean, but your views come across as someone very pessimistic
You guys don't realize the anger and frustration of the American people directed at the very establishments y'all always refer to.....big corporations, lobbyists, "elitists"..all establishments(D and R)...( who currently blatantly lie to them and "govern' against their will) this election result is shocking to their control of the "sheep"
God forgive (at least DEMS pray and hope) the "uninformed" should they ever to 'take the time and get a clue"....sure looks like the folks in VA 7th district did
The Republic is at stake and this is just the "start" to get rid of all those ".?@!/*,:.." that y'all are saying and "despise" running this great country...Time for them all to go

yes crusher, lottery ticket. you know what these guys get when they win an election like this? have you seen the compensation elected officials get on the local level and beyond? do you know what kind of work schedules they have and who they have to answer to on a daily basis? do you know what opportunities they have once they retire from this racket or even get beat like cantor?
and where did you get the idea that i'm pessimistic about politicians?

ATTACK, ATTACK, ATTACK the peasized minds of your ilk (F. Chuck Todd, DJ, wsc) give this guy a moment to just even "comprehend" what he just accomplished, trust me ,a helluve alot more than YOU or others in the PC world, EVER did hiding behind the keyboard you type from
He just BEAT the Majority House leader in his own backyard First time EVER in the Republic's history and you guys are foolish enough to start the denigrating the WINNER in the biggest PRIMARY Upset in History Are you an American or just another critical pessimistic "same as usual DC" political hack believer..You should be happy, this is a victory for your kids and their kids....instead you criticize..
Instead you worry today about his stance on "happy marriage" and what to do in Syria? So clueless and sad...this guy is "not stupid" enough to get sucked into this foolish commentary without ever considering some of them in the first place..
We will NEVER find the perfect candidate for VA's 7th district or the Presidency for that matter, we just need some NEW "conservative" candidate that can reinvigorate this once great nation

Actually, all he did is make sheep think he is something different.
I will guarantee he ends up being a far right wing anti-happy marriage, any abortion, extremist.
That might appease you but you will remain in the minority, thankfully.

All those statements I posted were made by previous tea party candidates. I know you believe that all women love rape, women can stop preganancy from rape, happy-marriage can be cured by therapy, etc.
There is a reason these candidates lose in general elections.

crusher, if he's an economist, seems like he might be able to handle a very basic minimum wage question at any given time.
but you're right. he's a newcomer, hasn't been prostituted, i mean, bankrolled, yet by the corporations. maybe he'll be that small government, true conservative so many of us say we're looking for.

for the record though crusher, you're setting the bar way too high for your average rightwinger with this one. this is not just something they do, it's their entire platform.

Speaking on the phone on Tuesday night with Hannity, Brat called his win
a “miracle,” saying he was “utterly humbled and thankful” that “God
gave us this win [and] acted through the people.”
now, i understand that god doesn't like rightwingers who worship money and love socialism for corporations garbage on the poor, but other than helping obama win two elections, we know god is too busy with the universe to worry about some nut winning an election in virginia.
i think dj is right about this guy.

Sorry but Cantor's stance on allowing citizenship is more than amnesty/legal status and his reason of "it's biblical" is a no go for me and apparently VA voters.
Yes I went off on a more broader aspect of illegal immigration and it's total effects. How does Cantor's stance differ from this:
I could live with a deal that includes effectively shutting down the border, deporting all that have committed crimes other than being here illegally, and providing legal status to those already here and established in the community. Seems fair. However, a fair deal will never come about due to the politics involved.
