Agents at the Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol are saying they ..are seeing different viruses on this latest group of thousands of unaccompanied minors from Central America crossing the border illegally into Texas ... chicken pox, MRSA staph infections and scabies on these people entering the U.S. illegally .
The potential for these contagious diseases to spread is especially troubling, since federal agents are sending waves of illegal immigrants to processing stations around the United States.
This latest surge of children at the border are coming after receiving an invitation from President Obama policies....
The Border agents ask what made you do it. The general answer that we’re getting from a lot of these individuals is,
"we heard there was going to be an amnesty"

Sorry it's not as simple as that. We cannot just open our borders for anyone to come in. Despite how our government and businesses have acted and continue to, we have immigration laws.
People that work hard should be rewarded but they also should follow the law at the same time not just ignore those pesky little immigration laws. I also call BS on the escaping death thing. Not doubting that they are some that have but the vast majority of people here illegally have done so just to either find work, have a better place to live, live off our govt, or engage in criminal activity.
Whose saying open borders to anyone who wants to come in? I'm referring to the law abiding productive people already here.
As for certain death, let's see: Italians-early 20th century, jewz- 20s and 30s, Western Europeans- 40s, Eastern Europeans- 50s, Vietnamese - 60s, Cambodians -70s, Bosnians -90s, Kenya, Somalia, Syria, Sudan, -modern day

These illegal aliens are also encouraged to cross our borders freely by Obama's Vice -President . A couple months ago VP Joe Biden said "illegal aliens are already American citizens ".
“Borders? We don’t need no stinkin’ borders! Immigration laws? We don’t need no stinkin’ immigration laws!”

DJ, just curious if you or anyone else know this. How does an illegal immigrant get a job and work in the US legally? Serious question.
According to a recent Op-Ed from the editorial staff at Bloomberg View
As many as 8 million undocumented immigrants hold jobs in the U.S. In fact, they account for more than 5 % of the U.S. labor force.
Their unemployment rate might even be lower than that of the nation's black citizens.
Employers have welcomed undocumented workers into their factories and stores and little is being done to stop the practice.
Workplace enforcement is minimal. Fines are small. Amid all the political bellowing about the border, no one in Washington pays much attention to employers' practices...
We hire them ...they will come .

Interesting commentary about 8 million and they are taking jobs, hire them and they will come..as if it is the governments fault.
WHO is hiring them? WHY are they hiring them?
Who has the greatest potential for gain in this scenario?
Instead of blanket government blaming, why not look into who is hiring and avoid their products or make a public outcry about the business who is doing this?
There is NO way that the government can seal the borders nor patrol it at a reasonable cost, why not focus on the end user versus the government?
Companies hire these people for a variety of reasons, some of the reasons are down right disgusting (not having to give benefits, not having to cover in liability insurance etc) yet we continue to act stupid and blame Obama and the government for the problem.
Really smart..

The post above by Slim surprisingly does a non-partisan job of addressing this question.
There are many methods, some more illegal (fake names, SS#s, etc) than others (payment under the table).
What is statistically uniform is that businesses drive the illegality portion at a much higher rate than workers. In other words, the number of workers providing false information to unsuspecting businesses dwarfs the number of businesses who are engaged in the illegality of hiring the workers.
There is a great book written by 5 restaurant owners who were formerly illegal workers and goes through their respective stories of rising from illegal worker making nothing to owning a restaurant and employing many legal workers.
This is exactly what I was talking about above. Suggesting that these people don't deserve full American rights considering they are now employing Americans is quite sad.

The reason so many Illegal Immigrants have jobs and are here in America in the first place ...is because the US government is not following its own Immigration laws ?
.. the government needs to stop rewarding people (who have come into this country illegally... through the back door) ..with welfare benefits like SNAP, Medicaid, education and other government services..
..and State governments should not give these illegals driver licenses..
Things were bad before with GWBush, but our laws are becoming more and more meaningless as President Obama signals that he's only willing to enforce laws he favors..

Wall, I have included businesses as a big part of this problem. Tyson Foods is a known large employer of illegal aliens in their food processing plants (slaughter houses). Upon learning this I have never bought another Tyson product again and try to discourage others from doing so.
I disagree with your claim that we cannot seal the borders or patrol it with effective cost. How many military bases do we have around the world and how many service people? We can easily close many overseas bases and bring back thousands of military personnel and spread them out over the southern border. I see no problem reducing the more than 50,000 troops in Germany and 35,000 in Japan. Closing those overseas bases would provide the funding to build that fence we were promised. Double layer fence with sensors in between and enough military to properly patrol the border 24/7 and we reduce that flood to less than a trickle. As an added benefit, the money paid to those military people will be spent in the US on goods and services rather than a foreign country. Let's end the European and Asian vacations for the military and bring them home.

It isnt like we have not discussed this before..how much cost would there be to construct this? How much to maintain it on a yearly basis? How much to staff it to ANY reasonable expectation?
How many thousands of miles of border are there, many quite remote? How many people would it take to adequately patrol these fences? How many "military" members per hundred miles of fence?
How much beyond the actual border wall in cost would there be chasing down the people who make it across?
There IS a cost to "using" military people for border patrol, those people collect a wage and many are used in other areas and aspects of the military..so taking that asset to be on "border patrol" for sure has a cost..a direct and indirect cost.
How effective would this solution be? How much do we GAIN by having this fence, how much of the problem does this solve relative to the larger issue?
Put a cost on these things, then multiply it by 10 or more, then you might be close..
I dont get this border idea, it is absurd and for sure not cost or time effective at all..what a really dumb idea.

How much is the cost of doing nothing? Billions a year in benefits for illegals and all the crimes associated with a million plus coming across.
We are already paying those military personnel so that cost is minimal. We could also cut some Border patrol people as they would not be needed as much with the military there. We save by closing many bases overseas, so that money can go toward this effort. We bring over as many as it takes from those European and Asian bases and put them to work here on the border.
At one time the fence was approved by Congress so let's assume the money was there, at least in DC budget terms, to pay for this.
How effective would this solution be and how much do we gain? Well we will never find out if we don't do it. The potential gains are huge as in stopping a million plus people a year from coming here illegally. We also stop people from being tortured, raped or killed by those human smugglers bringing them across. We stop or greatly slow the flow of illegals and drugs.
Is this a sure fire solve all solution? No, but it is a great start to get a handle on this problem. Why is it that the US with all of its resources "cannot" or refuses to guard their borders? The answer is a lack of political will. All I hear are excuses on why it can't be done. Lack of money is not a good enough reason, we can easily find the money to do this. So much government waste to be rooted out. Money is not the problem, having a bunch of spineless a_holes in our government is.

America has sent over $1 billion of U.S. aid to Mexico to spent on development assistance, economic support, child survival and health programs, and combating drug trafficking..
Of course the $1 billion in U.S. aid has done nothing to stem the rampant corruption and human rights violations within Mexican.
U.S. lawmakers ought to rethink the flow of another $900 million in taxpayer dollars earmarked for south of the border..unless Mexico helps America control the border ( something that at this time is nonexistent) ..we should withhold all financial to Mexico .
People heading to America should be checked on the Mexico side of the border..and turned around there...immigrants traveling by foot to the U.S. from Mexico should not be allowed to come right up to the American border on the Mexico side..

Aside from trying to pin it on Obama as much as possible, you are not addressing the real reason-- the "demand" side.
Our businesses have hired illegals as long as I can remember and those groups(small and big businesses) have our representatives(Ds and Rs) in their pockets. When was the last time you saw a hefty punishment for those? Obviously, it's just a small cost in doing business for them. You want to blame the government? How about blame those who provide the demand in the first place? In the process, they pass along all those costs(benefits) you mentioned to US!!
I don't know why people want to focus on those cost-prohibitive measures such as fences, using military for border patrol..etc. The most EFFECTIVE way would be dealing with the "demand" side of the equation and other things would fall into place.

I dont think you are measuring the benefit when stating the costs..so yes billions of dollars spent for illegals and crime, yes..how much of an economic benefit do we have for the work that people do, the things they buy, the rents they pay etc etc...

Bunny651, I will agree with you the demand for cheap labor is the driving force behind illegal immigration, but if the government allowed an increase in legal immigration ( esp.with people that have the skill we need) some could take the low skilled jobs the illegal aliens have and also fill the need for skilled, educated immigrants..
Just how many lawn cutters, food servers and maids do we need?
Oh I forgot and pool boys.

Slim. I am not familiar with the current quota on legal immigration but I believe the business groups have been pushing that for years. I am all for importing talents to keep us ahead on everyone else. Having said that, I sometimes wonder whether the cost is the sole motive in some of the cases.
Case in point: A friend of mine brought a Dell years ago. When he needed tech-support/customer service and called, the number was re-routed to a call center set up by Dell in India. We talk about incentives, tax breaks and cuts all the time but they won't think for a sec to cut jobs if it means additional profits.
