Under the law, presidents cannot shut entire border without a national emergency. Trump failed to shut down south border because courts overruled him. It was only during the pandemic that Trump was able to shut down the border. House republicans automatic rejection of bipartisan senate bill shows they don't actually care about border security. They rather keep complaining and refuse to fix problems. By choosing politics over country, they lose all credibility in holding democrats responsible.
@thirdperson
Exactamundos!
This should be obvious even to those MAGAs around the country and abroad who permanently wear their MAGA partisan blinders.
They will persist with this obstructionist agenda however, we can count on that.
Next up is a looming government shutdown...

The Republican opposition to the current expansion of the child tax credit bill features tacit admissions from the right wing of the party that undocumented immigrants pay taxes under their copycatted SSNs.
House Freedom Caucus Chairman Bob Good (R-Va.) told reporters that he wouldn’t support “child tax credits going to illegals.”
But wait Bob, doesn’t the far right anti-immigrant wing of the GOP whine that illegals don’t pay taxes? How can they get a credit against something they don’t pay?
As the unseen voice on Mortal Kombat once said, “Whoopsie!”
I post this to note that the far right, anti-immigrant portion of the GOP is bonkers and out of touch with reality. All of us moderates who have bothered to check know that when 22 people all pay income tax under the same SSN, that the IRS isn’t returning the money to 21 of the people who don’t own that number.

Well, illegals that work with any reputable business that pays workers legitimately will pay taxes on those illegals behalf for the portion of taxes withheld from paychecks. There are plenty of illegals that fit that mold, but do they file tax returns to reconcile. Most likely not. So, it is possible that illegals who are here with an ITIN from the IRS or who pay taxes through an employer are paying taxes, but I'm not sure that's the intent. Those workers are still illegal and should not be here or be employed if they are not legally allowed to be here in the US or eligible to work in the US....that's just a fact and until that part is addressed and reconciled this will always be an ongoing debate. Illegals don't belong in any country where there is law that requires citizenship to gain lawful employment or benefits from the State or Federal government....dispute that all you want but that is just the reality of it...
How come we don't hear about other countries having problems with illegals in their country abusing their system...is it because it does not exist like it does here in the US? The first part of accepting this fact is ridding oneself of the denial that there isn't a problem that exists of illegals in the US because there in fact is a widespread problem with illegals in the US and it is impacting both on the Federal and State level...no other country in the world is dealing with this issue because they have better measures in place to combat this whereas the US is allowing it....it's just fact and to say to the contrary is asinine...the US has and has had a major problem with illegals and no one has the balls to correct it....

The reason YOU do not hear about it is US media is exclusive to US issues. Europe is filled to the gills with illegal problems, it does not take much effort to find that out, in fact I would suggest they have larger issues than the US does, they have so many ways that immigrants can enter it is very simple versus the US border. One big difference in what I have seen, Europe is not flame throwing on illegals to the extent I see it here but for sure they have the exact same battle lines drawn politically as the US does and if I am being honest, the illegals that Europe has to deal with are higher risk than what the US does, but if you do a minimal amount of searching you will see what I am referring to.

All of this is correct. I am not sure what you mean by 'flame throwing' exactly. But in some areas in Europe it is far worse with the rhetoric. They have even been having large anti-illegal immigrant protests in the streets. I have not seen anything like that in the USA yet. But, as I keep saying, for sure Europe is a leading indicator on the coming sentiment about the problems.
We had to take a couple of detours because they had some of the thoroughfares shut down and blocked off for them.
They certainly have higher-risk groups to deal with as well. But some of these 'higher-risk' groups have been making their way to SA and up through Mexico now and into NA. So, for sure there is more concern than just the normal issues of resources and jobs, etc.

Let me rephrase or reiterate what I said if it was not made clear above....yes, other countries have illegals entering their borders but what they do not have is illegals working and being paid illegally in their countries and taking welfare....that is an epidemic solely related to the US and widespread in the US only...you can enter other countries no problem, but as it relates to working or benefiting from government aid, I do not think this is a problem elsewhere to the level it is here in the US....that was what the topic was that I was referring to from sidehatch's response...it is an epidemic here in the US like no other place in the world and partly because we are too generous of people....cut out the ability to work or the aid of welfare and how many are we left with....at least to the effect, they are not influencing the work sector or abusing the welfare system...we have enough legal citizens mooching off the welfare system as it is in the US...people should be enticed to work not stay home and take what the government gives you....remember, it's not what your country can do for you but rather what you can do for your country....we are way to generous with our welfare programs to the point that it is corrupt and exploited and that should not be taking place as it is both careless and negligent to the people of the US and to its tax payers who are paying for those unregulated services that are not fully vetted to individuals....
Here's a simple one for most....unemployment is paid up to 26 weeks in most states...why? Are you telling me that there is no work that can be found in 2 years time? Not, one that fits what you want to do but any work at all? Or, is it more probable that those who are collecting unemployment milk the system for the money and cheat and lie about their actual involvement in trying to obtain employment? If this was shortened to say 6 months, are most so naive to think that those individuals will not take some form of employment once that 6 months ends...I think they would and not choose to be without some form of income. Our welfare systems in place coddle individuals and promote laziness instead of enticing them to go out and find work, any work...teach people to be go getters and be more resilient to make money instead of expecting a handout...this is just one example...don't get me started on the food stamps or EBT when people are taking those and selling them to others...our welfare systems in place are an absolute joke for exploiting...

Not sure where you are located, but are those illegals in your country working illegally and able to obtain welfare or are they just illegal in your country and protesting because they want rights? I would suspect that they are unable to gain lawful employment and/or obtain welfare benefits if they are not a citizen of that nation...

Not sure I agree with the work and take benefits only in the US reply. I think it happens a TON in Europe, their open access to medical benefits in general makes that concept more easy to happen in Europe than in the US. In addition there are many immigrants who are either working on getting citizenship and others have followed them and stay with them and are working under the table the way you describe.
To me the biggest difference is that crime groups and traffickers and drug dealers are using illegals for crime and are doing so with efficiency, I do not think the US has large crime syndicates that recruit illegals like in Europe. There are more attacks on the public in Europe using illegals than I see in the US. I think the US problems are less severe and risky than what Europe is dealing with.

Immigrants are a 4 year US GOP chew toy where any ills or woes of the elite US citizen are blamed on illegals, its a tired ploy that is predictable and erroneous. That was my reference. I think Europe has been dealing with illegals and immigration in general longer and with more intensity than the US and it is not the billboard blame poster like we see here in the US.

Completely accurate on the front of the illegal crime groups.
Here is an example that you hear quite a bit, but we have experienced on a number of occasions....Our company resides in a largely populated hispanic farm culture area in California....so, we hire predominantly hispanic workers for our areas in a number of different packing houses that sort and package a vast majority of our countries food supply....meaning the product distribution is shipped throughout the country to large retailers like Costco and Walmart....we recently had hired a worker to work internally for our company as a receptionist handling the intake of new hire paperwork and maintaining our database...she, of course, had family in Mexico like most do in our area...she was working for us for about 8 months and mysteriously didn't report to work and disappeared rather abruptly....she contacted our office shortly after she left and advised us that one of her family members had been killed because they did not pay their fee to the smuggling operation for one of her family members that was contracted with a group to bring them to the US....the family member that was killed was not the family member that was smuggled to the US but rather a random family member that the cartel, so we found out, found and killed them because the debt or services were not being paid and since they couldn't locate the person that was smuggled they were finding their family members and were going to kill them until the debt or service was repaid...so, here is a legal citizen in the US working and had a kid and was forced to leave what she knew for fear of losing her life or other family members lives....now, what was not made clear to us was what services were needing to be paid...was it simply the smuggling fee or was it that plus whatever services that person was required to fulfill and was not that caused them to start picking up family members..we also are unaware of whether this family member was forced to the US to work here or if they voluntarily wanted to come to the US....
And she isn't the only ex-employee where we have heard this....
We have also employed workers previously that have advised us when they lose their job because of various reasons that there lives will be in jeopardy if we do not continue to employ them because they owe a substantial amount to their coyote and money is due on a regular basis or they face consequences...we were hearing that those fees are anywhere from 10-20k in some circumstances, plus whatever they are required to do or perform while owing this liability....
So, I fully understand the magnitude of this and we have dealt with it first hand...luckily no one has come knocking on our door trying to force us to do anything but that could be next...I know everyone has heard the stories so I just wanted to to be sure that people know that they are true...
It makes for very dangerous people on both sides...the one hunting and those being hunted for putting themselves in those situations...they jeopardize their whole families...not sure it is worth it when there are means to do it legally which is the point...they do risk everything though in some circumstances...

Yeah I have heard that before too and the same thing happens in Europe. People will pay for entry and then they are on the hook for a percentage of their wages, or even worse they are brought in under false pretenses they think they are coming to work and get citizenship then are used for the drug trade or if female for sex rings or for sweat shop labor living where they work with no rights or freedoms. There is no easy answer to the problem and as you showed and I did, the problem is not just the illegals coming in its citizens of the US and also non-documented citizens who bring people in and profit off them in the process.
A cruddy low quality wall is not going to change these dynamics, if anything there needs to be a more comprehensive border entry policy but that clogs up commerce and people going to and from, its bad already but to really solve the problem its almost like we have to close the border outside of controlling the flow with full comprehensive searching and that means big trucks too...and that is not going to happen. Then there should be investigative groups where in your case you could report the issue and this department could chase down these groups and make a dent in this problem. Again that is a nice idea but not at all a reasonable possibility.
A wall and a GOP president isnt going to make much of an impact...but it sounds good on tv and someone busting the chops of the POTUS to get elected.

You don’t hear about it because you don’t work with immigrants. When I lived in a red state, my immigrant construction worker neighbor asked me if H&R Block was ripping him off by charging him $700-$800 to process his simple tax return bill. I also have met many immigrants who do file their taxes.
But if you don’t believe what I have to say, then you can believe that Bob Good and Chip Roy personally believe that “illegals” pay taxes and they don’t want them to get child tax credits. So if they’re saying that, and us who have met lotsa immigrants know that, then it would appear you’re the only one who doesn’t know that. Time to educate yourself!

I agree with you, but isn’t it a 30 year chew toy now? Rush Limbaugh was preaching this in the 1990s, Pete Wilson went anti-immigrant in CA three decades ago, then Bush/Kyl/McCain all ran on it in 2004. Lots of anti-immigrant talk by the Dobbs and Hannitys of the world in 2000-2010

No, just a stroke of a pen can stop this nonsense. Just like Biden used the pen to undue all that was working. And if it takes GOP to do it, which it obviously does, SO BE IT.
You're right... the solution ain't that hard, but DEMS make it out to be anyway.

Here's a future solution, at least for New York State if this comes to fruition.
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)—The governor has proposed advancing legislation to allow the state to close up to five prisons following ninety days' notice, to make the correctional system more efficient.
Not agreeing on the prison closures, but on an Immigration issue that is out of control this is a simple fix. Don't close the prisons, open them up to the migrants who have taken over public schools, parks and airports. These prisons have beds, toilets, kitchen facilities. It's a very secure location, you could even put the families in one wing, so they don't mingle with the ones that are here to work or cause crime.
How can anyone argue this idea, or how about the state office buildings that are still vacant since covid. Use the resources in front of you

It's a very secure location, you could even put the families in one wing, so they don't mingle with the ones that are here to work or cause crime.
How can anyone argue this idea, or how about the state office buildings that are still vacant since covid. Use the resources in front of you
Senate republicans warn House that new immigration bill is the most conservative in decades and no better bill might be possible in the future. Republican Tillis said that rejecting this bipartisan bill would be immoral. Despite unique opportunity, House republicans say no new law is necessary and claim border issue can be solved magically by executive orders. But in the past, republicans insisted border legislation was essential because courts were blocking executive orders from Trump and other presidents. GOP hypocrisy is head spinning. According to Cato institute, Trump reduced legal immigration but not illegal immigration. History shows tough law enforcement has failed. Instead more legal immigration is more effective in reducing illegal immigration without committing crimes against humanity. Besides, presidents are limited by laws and funding from congress. So legislation (not executive order) is the only way to fix a broken immigration system.

@soup-can A pair of New York City police officers were allegedly attacked by several migrants near Times Square over the weekend, with the suspects later being released without bail following their arrest.
Yes, this should be alarming everyone, even the far left!!! Just review the tape of this, two nypd officers and one guy. Then a mob of other punks kicking cops in the head and the back while they roll on ground like a WWE match. So, they are seeking asylum still? Ya'll want to believe all that mumbo jumbo now? 3 of the 4 punks back on the street in 3 hours, Hochul took a backseat answer about deporting them. The same person who said Trump people don't belong in New York State.
We all make the bed we sleep in, Hochel and Schumer need to take a hard look in the mirror. Let's not forget about AOC either, what a quack she is
@MrWhatsItToYa
I didn't forget about you, to respond on a few questions that you will most likely make negative but here goes anyway. I never did and never will support any type of riots, not back in 99 Rome woodstock, nor the Jan 6th. The Minneapolis tragedy will go down as one of the worst showings of hate in our lifetime. You said your grandfather was in WWII, so was mine NAVY. My Great grandfather was also NAVY in WWI, immigrant from IRE. His oldest son, my uncle in Korea ARMY, my Father in Vietnam MARINES. We are similar in many ways just not there on politics. When I turned 18 and recruits calling 24/7, I agreed to come in. This was right before desert storm, I would've been over in that shit, but I never made it out the house that day. Still thank my father for blocking me that day, so this FJB taking his sweet ass time reaching out to the families kinda hits hard. He lacks the empathy he should, and you can't really fault the guy if he's in a demented state, early onset at the least. Spin it however

Funny, how come there still wasn't a response from WallStreet on his one-sided approach to moderating this forum?

Do you agree with this unfair judgment that's being put down on the few here who disagree with the right? It is the 1st amendment after all.
