"If there are U.S. tariffs, Mexico would also raise tariffs,"

Most analysts have said they believe trump's tariffs proposal would push up U.S. consumer prices!

Imposing stiff tariff on many countries is one of Trump's campaign agendas and "mandates". I am not sure voters love the price of goods jacking up from the stiff tariffs, let's see how this thing pans out, Fubah.

And...
Trump's proposed tariffs would appear to contravene the U.S.-Mexico-Canada free-trade pact, which Trump signed during his first term

All one has to do is hit that SEARCH button and look for thread topic "tariffs". Look at all those posts on Trump's 2018 tariffs.
In one of those threads, I remember being like, "F*ck China!" As I said then, I say now, they are not our friends. Making it easier to pump money into the CCP via cheeply made Chinese goods is not in our best interest. While I am not a believer in "across the board" tariffs, I am a believer in tariffs as a means to drive American industry. This would mean tariffs on things like Chinese steel, textiles, etc. We also need to move away from Taiwanese chip manufacturing. When I read stories about Intel laying off US workers in the same periodicals I read about possible war with China to protect Taiwan, I shake my head. The answer is not escalation to protect our business interests in Taiwan. The answer is to divest from Taiwan and invest in America.
TIME TO BRING BACK THE OBAMA CAGES!

It's all a form of leaverage and in some cases has to be done.
When the UAW signs a sweetheart contract with automakers everybody claps with joy for the blue collar worker. Yet those costs are passed on to new car buyers.
Those steel tariffs helped with our weak steel manufacturing, saved jobs. And that American steel costs a little more and like the UAW contract is passed to consumers.

If Trump follows though on his ignorant pledge, it would substantially boost inflation next year after pandemic-induced consumer price increases had largely abated under the Biden admin, economists said.
