I wonder how much people really cared about the transgender people before the war against gays and lesbians are toppled with the offering equal rights to marriage. But now that the focus is off of attacking that group transgendered people seem to be in the crosshairs for certain groups of people that concern themsleves with this type of thing.

i mentioned this before. after almost 20 years in criminal law, i've never seen or heard of a transvestite committing a crime anywhere, let alone in a bathroom. beyond that, i've never heard of anyone raising a concern over this issue in my life. yet, you have wingnut politicians or the media or religious people telling people to be scared of transvestites in the bathroom and the next thing you know, you have new laws and more government on a complete nonissue. even worse, you have a state like NC losing a shitload of money and jobs over it. you have "small government conservatives" defending the increased laws/government over this non-issue. it's truly and completely insane.

Has it yet occurred to the ACC that it is located in North Carolina?
they know. they are working on moving it to a location that is a little more progressive than north carolina and similar southern states. the trick is to do it in the least burdensome way so they don't have to change merchandise, naming rights, etc. i hear the Afghanistan Coast Conference is in the lead right now.

How many problems are people in NC having in public restrooms down there? Seems odd, and I think it's pretty obvious that the people who support it are discriminating. Same people who don't want men in the bathrooms with their young girls probably won't want men who dress like women hiking up their skirt and pissing next to your young boys. In my state we just go in there and take care of our business and get out. Why is it that we aren't hearing a bunch of awful stories out of NC about attacks and molestations in the public restrooms? Does that even happen?

I have stayed out of this discussion because I can see both sides of it, and I'm not really sure there is a right or wrong answer to this.
On one hand, I fully support the LGBT community, and their rights.
On the other hand, allowing a person to use the bathroom to which they identify creates a potential problem ...
When (IMO not what if, but when) a grown man who is a sexual predator puts on a wig so he can legally follow a young girl into the women's bathroom, and commits the unspeakable, does the argument on this topic change?

If the argument against the NC law is that the LGBT community are sexual deviants, then that argument is baseless.
If the argument for the NC law is that there is no risk in it, then that argument is flawed.

I think NC was puttin' the fix on what Charlotte was trying to pass. Isn't that the genesis of this beautiful mess ?
i do think it started with charlotte so i would say the same to them. but, the answer to excessive government is not more government. also, the NC law, and this is part of their problem, goes well beyond bathroom etiquette and includes all sorts of other discrimination.

that's a valid argument. first, this law isn't the answer. as i mentioned, this law goes well beyond bathroom use and includes all sorts of other discrimination. secondly, we already have laws that make committing sex crimes against kids or anyone else illegal. creating another law that purportedly carves out some sort of safe space (i thought those didn't work) in bathrooms provides no extra protection to stop what you described. it's just more laws and more government which is almost never the answer. however, in this case, while it doesn't add any protection above what is already in place, it discriminates against various groups and brought a huge shitstorm upon north carolina.
