Labor force participation climbs; unemployment down to 3.5%
The Fed wants to see more slack in the labor market: As the economy recovers from the pandemic, the demand for workers has far exceeded the supply, contributing to higher wages and thus inflationary pressures.
Contributing to the tightness has been a smaller-than-expected labor force and participation rates that were slow to match projections or meet pre-pandemic levels.
During the past two and half years, a lot of ink has been spilled on the question of why workers were “missing,” with recent research zeroing in on Covid-19 deaths, reduced immigration, aging population and long Covid as the primary culprits.

Biden administration appealing stupid Texas judge’s decision blocking abortion pill approval THE HILL, April 8 -The Biden administration is appealing the ruling by a trump-appointed federal judge in Texas that a common abortion pill was improperly approved more than two decades ago.
An FDA spokesperson told The Hill in a statement that the abortion pill was approved “based on a comprehensive review of the scientific evidence available.” They said the agency stands behind its determination that the pill is safe and effective under the approved conditions for use.
Attorney General Merrick Garland denounced the Texas decision in a statement, saying the Justice Department (DOJ) strongly disagrees and plans to appeal.
“Today’s decision overturns the FDA’s expert judgment, rendered over two decades ago. The Department will continue to defend the FDA’s decision,” Garland said.

Global wind and solar reached record levels in 2022, study finds
The use of coal, oil and gas to produce electricity is expected to fall in 2023, according to the report, published Wednesday by energy think tank Ember.
This would mark the first year to see a decline in the use of fossil fuels to generate electricity, outside of a global recession or pandemic.
Levels of planet-heating pollution from fossil fuel electricity generation may have already peaked, the report found.

Ember analyzed data from 78 countries representing 93% of global demand for electricity, for the 4th edition of its annual Global Electricity Review.
Nearly 40% of global electricity is now powered by renewables and nuclear energy, marking a new record high, according to the report.

Always interesting to see what China thinks and say;
Dong Dengxin, director of the Finance and Securities Institute at the Wuhan University of Science and Technology,
"If the US continues its financial policy, it may not only cause a depression in the US economy, but also may trigger a global financial crisis and a debt crisis in developing countries," Dong warned.
That's a no brainer!

The use of coal globaly has increased 70% since 1998 and continues to climb.
China has seen a 300% increase in coal use since 1998 and is currently building two coal fired plants per week. China has it's own coal reserves and 90% of all coal used by China is mined in China. China said coal use rose 4.3% in 2022 compared with the previous year—a higher-than-expected increase.
China is currently burning coal per year at 2.9 times the highest rate the United States ever used in one year. And it's still growing.
