Russia's "Special Military Operation", has been going on for 3 plus years....2 years of actual conflict where pretty much nothing except men dying in old school trench warfare has occured. This is a war of attrition by design. Ukraine, specifically Eastern, is full of ethnic Russians. Putin has made no effort to "destroy and conquer Ukraine" because that is not and was not ever his goal. If Russia wanted to take ALL of Ukraine they easily could've done so but it would've resulted in way much collateral damage (Cities and civilians). That also would've escalated the West's "proxy" war to a "hot" war and that is not what Putin wants. Russia's SMO is just part II of the previous SMO to take Crimea. They now have control (have had since the initial move into Ukraine) over the entire Eastern border, creating a buffer between what is now "Western / NATO" controlled Ukraine and Russia. All of Ukraine used to be the buffer between Russia and the West. Since the West took over Ukraine, eliminating the buffer, Russia has now created their own buffer state.
Mission accomplished, now all they are doing is bleeding US and Western resources while we dummies get sucked into another Middle East conflict of someone else's design.... Clear victory for democrats with republicans losing what they wanted most. When republicans rejected senate bipartisan bill earlier, they lost their best chance at determining border security. Now GOP new border bill failed in 215 to 199 vote because two-third majority is required. However all aid packages passed by bigger majorities.
