So why does Joe even go there ??   Why go there w/ the white supremacist talk.  My mantra is to treat people as individuals, not as "groupings," or "races"  or "classes of wealth"  ... But the left can't help themselves talking about people this way...  It's divisive and gets people turning on each other..  Whitey vs. everyone... Rich vs. poor.  The 1% vs. everyone else.  The alphabet mafia (LGBTQ etc.) vs. everyone else...     Do you see a common theme here ??  

Biden is a class act - A Hole that likes to stir the Sh*t pot at every opportunity.  Plan and simple. 

Create division among the people... Job well done, Joe.. Job well done....  

Perhaps if Trump knew that Joe was going to kick a hornet's nest upon withdrawal from Afghanistan,... Trump would have done it while in office...  Lol. 

Only an idiot like Joe can get 13 American Soldiers killed and call the mission a success.  Did I mention that Joe is an idiot ?   

Biden is right.  White supremacists and other far right extremists are the biggest terrorism threat according to FBI, Center for strategic studies and Homeland security department.  Sadly, republican party has been hijacked by such extremists.

Who controls the fbi..homeland security..the left.. biden uses the doj as his personal private police.  High ranking officials lied about the laptop... paid big tech to censor and protect ..

 The biggest threat right now are the smash & grab crowd......hardly right-wingers or White supremacists.

Been preaching this point for a while now..... everything is centered around DIVISION and INTOLERANCE.  That is their goal, their mission and they are doing a great job accomplishing such.  Sad but true.  

How many of those mass shootings this year from White Supremacists? You got one Hispanic self proclaimed white supremacist out of what, 200 mass shootings??

Media has no accountability 

This administration only has the race card to play since everything else has been a huge failure,disaster, embarrassment.   Not much left for them... create fear, blame trump and whitey..they have no sense of responsibility and accountability..

It's ludicrous how much the left controls many aspects of our lives.. The levers of government as you pointed out, the media, our grade schools (via their powerful unions), our colleges & universities, the media, Hollywood, etc.  It is a never ending circle of big government on the people. 

So , to you members on the left, who is the real  threat to democracy in this country?   It seems you guys are comfortable w/ authoritarian rule and a heavy-handed government.

Absolutely right !! The media is a powerful tool used by the left, and the two are indistinguishable.  The media filters the news that gets to the people, and too many sheeple don't even recognize it is happening .  Hardly anything negative on Biden and the left, but the anti-Trump news is front and center.  

The Biden laptop is just one big example of the collusion w/ media and the left.  The FBI/Justice Dept. falsely claimed it was Russia disinformation in the run-up to the 2020 election,  and had twitter/FB silence the topic.  But the whole story was true that could have had implications on the election.

 You really believe that the media controls your life? I can find right wing extreme, right wing moderate, left, indy all the media I want if I look for it. The only way "they" control you is if you let "them" control you. People who allow the media to control them are either indifferent, lazy or partisan and want to be controlled.

The left does not control anything, your mind and decisions and choices are all yours and no matter which partisan side you agree with there are ways you can take control and there are certain aspects of life you cannot control. 

I dont buy the media controlling anyone, that is due to the person allowing it. To the goofy topic I would think there is solid reason to suggest that white extremist groups are more dangerous than others...including the idea that certain groups have more murders than others, that isnt really the complete point. White extremists bridge many races, groups, income ranges, both sexes, alt lifestyle groups where some of the minority groups mentioned for murder do not cross the lines the same way. So to use a murder rate as the core reason for the suggestion is way off. There is much more to the concept of what is dangerous than just a flat murder number especially when you factor IN or OUT the drug aspect to the numbers.

A lot of words, that's about all.

  I found a great deal of media bias during the riots. CNN & MSNBC hardly covered them at all......hell, even our local stations did what they could to ignore what happened in downtown Seattle. Talking to people that live & work in Seattle, they all agreed that Fox was the only station that gave a true, live depiction of what was actually happening.

 So the media TRIES to control info. Control me? No, I know better. But anyone that doesn't do a little tv or web surfing could certainly be washed.

Most people simply respond to what you put in front of them , and that becomes the basis of their opinion , sadly , I think that’s human nature at this point in time , because a lot of people enjoy the idea of being told what to do , even though they fake that fact and wanna argue it’s truth , because decision making can be arduous and difficult , and it’s simply easier to just nod your head and go along with what people are telling you …..

It’s just more comfortable for them , but ultimately it’s worse for your well-being ….

like rocking through a whole bag of salt and vinegar potato chips while watching the 3rd quarter of an NBA basketball game , and having only crumbs and slimy fingers when the clock hits zero . It was good at the time but your asshole gonna feel like bombs over Baghdad during the post game wrap up show

Media matters study reveals that Fox news waged misinformation war on Black lives matter.  Characterizing protesters as violent lawbreakers when they are overwhelmingly peaceful.  Princeton university study found that 93% of BLM protests have no police reports of violence or property damage in 7750 protests at 2400 locations.  Polls show majority of Americans support BLM movement for social justice.

Third , my eyes , ears , senses , and the plethora of conversations that I’ve had with an enormous variety of different people from all walks of life leads me to believe in the things that I believe in .

Absolutely the Media control the folks and the narrative they want.  This has been know for many years and many great writers have written on this.  Chomsky is a recent example, but many older philosophers have addressed this through the ages.

Yes you CAN find news from the Right IF you look for it.  But the key is that you have to WANT to look for it; people very rarely do, especially if they have a tendency to the Left.  

The Left already dominates the Media, so you do NOT have to look for the news from the Left because that is the majority.

The issue has been addressed and studied by many, many folks for a very long time.

The folks tend to have their minds made up and gravitate to the news that reinforces their views.

Experts on a Harvard Law School panel warn that Facebook and Google have already damaged democracy

Social media’s business model of personalized virality is incompatible with democracy, agreed experts at a recent Harvard Law School discussion on the state of democracy. Social media doesn’t merely threaten democracy in the future, they said, but may have already done considerable damage. As ethicist Tristan Harris argued during the online event, “You have to appeal to the [Facebook] algorithm to get elected; you have to appeal to the algorithm to get attention. The algorithm has primacy over media, over news, over newspaper publishers, over each of us, and it controls what we do.”

The panel, “Social Media and Democracy,” was the third session of the Harvard Law lecture series, “Democracy.” In his opening remarks, Harvard Law Professor Lawrence Lessig noted how profoundly the climate has changed since the optimistic early days of the internet. “When I was at Stanford [in 2009], if we’d had a panel about the internet and democracy, it would have been an unambiguous celebration about the potential the internet was producing. The first internet president had been elected, and many people attributed the opportunity to motivate and rally people to the potential of the technology. It’s hard to recover that sense of unambiguous good.”

Stanford Law School Professor Nate Persily argued that social media (particularly Facebook and Google) has fostered a more toxic political dialogue that has infected politics at large, accelerating polarization and the decline of legacy media.

“A political communication system that privileges virality [also] privileges certain kinds of candidacies, strategies and communication — those that appeal to outrage and emotion,” he said, adding that the anonymity of online communication has encouraged hate speech, while Facebook groups and similar venues have stoked conspiracy theories. Meanwhile the lack of national control or regulation of social media has not only allowed Russian agents to influence U.S. elections, but has given unprecedented power to two companies.

“Google and Facebook are different to any media companies that pre-existed them,” he said. “They have more power over the information ecosystem than any institution since the pre-Reformation Catholic Church. Their algorithms and their content moderation policies are taking the form of law.”

He said that virality — the ability of any real or false information to spread quickly — is ironically both the most democratic feature of social media, and its biggest threat to democracy. “We’ve eliminated the monopoly of the three white guys who determine what’s news at 5 p.m. every day.” Yet this standardized news has often been replaced by disinformation and hate speech. “I think the genie is out of the bottle there, and that’s why we’ve turned to the rules Facebook and Google have to apply — because governments aren’t really stepping up.”

Tristan Harris’ organization, the Center for Humane Technology, was recently featured on Netflix’s “The Social Dilemma,” and he invoked that show’s characterizing of social media as “simultaneous utopia and dystopia.” Yet he argued that the dystopian threats can outweigh the benefits. “We have an incompatibility with social media’s business model of personalized virality and democracy.” Specifically, he decried the intersection of “godlike technology” and free speech. “We’re talking about free speech when we have a trillion-dollar market cap AI pointed at your brain, designed to find the next perfect boogeyman to light up your nervous system. That is not the same thing as what we used to call free speech when we were hanging out on the town square.”

Social media, he said, erodes both education and social solidarity. “[It] can’t not polarize the population. No matter where you stand — if masks are your thing, or vaccines, or critical race theory — it doubles down on your perspective or reminds you why the other side is wrong.” These extremes will in turn get adopted by political campaigns.

As a concrete example, he cited Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen, whose recent testimony — that Facebook was amplifying hate speech and misinformation for its own gain — initially met with bipartisan support. “There was a particular Republican senator who never comes down positively on these issues, and I saw him come down very positively. Frances was invited to meet with that senator. Then a story went viral and you know what it said? That she was a fake whistleblower, she was a Democratic plant, she was funded by a billionaire and that this is all a setup by the government to control and silence her free speech. Now, why would that story go viral? Because it’s an incendiary topic.” The senator then called off the meeting because the story had inflamed his base.

“There’s lots of good reasons not to trust social media companies to police misinformation; there’s lots of reasons not to trust governments [either],” Greene said. “Building out trusted institutions that are able to do that is the challenge.”

One of the audience questions came from former Facebook Vice President Elliot Schrage ’86, who asked how the panelists would modify applications of the First Amendment as applied to public forums. Replied Persily, “I would chip away at Citizens United in terms of the rights of these social media monopolies. I worry that lots of regulations that I would propose could be seen as violating those corporations’ First Amendment rights, and that’s where I would change things.” Countered Greene, “I’m not sure how much First Amendment law needs to change. If I were pushed on this question, I would encourage more context sensitivity when it comes to the First Amendment, so we care as much about what the government is trying to accomplish as about whose individual rights are challenged.”
