"Diplomacy" in the Trump Era:




He says the member states must work together to confront “rogue regimes”.

“If the righteous many do not confront the wicked few, then evil will triumph,” he says

14 minutes into the speech, Trump mentions North Korea, speaking about the death of American student Otto Warmbier after being detained by the North Korean government. 

He says the “entire world” is threatened by the nuclear threat in North Korea.

“We have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea,” Trump says.

The stated policy of the US prior to Trump has been Nor Korea can't have nukes.  They now have nukes.  Does this mean we were just kidding all along.  Not sure what the answer is (from my perspective not sure why we should care about nor Korea and should leave it to the countries in the area), but it seems that if u believe prior presidents (Dems and Repubs) then once they get nukes, u have to act up to and including military action.  Otherwise you become a mockery, which seems the direction we have been heading recently.

I have issues with a lot that Trump does, and says, but not this. I don't want to be locked in this nuclear pissing match anymore than you do but clearly diplomacy hasn't worked with the Kim family. We, as Americans, don't also have the best disposition to foreign countries but we don't have inherent hate for North Koreans. North Koreans, on the other hand, are taught to hate Americans. Diplomacy will not work here. What, are we suppose to have Rodman broker a deal? God help us.

The OP has taken selective words taken out of the whole sentence to misrepresent what the President really said ..

Here's what President Trump said :

“The United States has great strength and patience, but if it is forced to defend itself or its allies, we will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea,”

Big difference .....

Yeah this kind of rationale is what caused the disaster called Iraq..

Good thing the lot of you would rather watch a lunatic on tv ranting and babbling than thinking of more intelligent ways to handle a REALLY UGLY NO WIN situation.

Yeah Trump has a pair I suppose but lacks cognitive intelligence to make the proper decision in this situation. His approach is completely wrong...he is the last person that should be in charge of a situation like this.

Hillary or Gary Johnson? Because those were our choices...

Barry and Hillary were in charge of US foreign policy, so kinda hard to see giving her another shot at it- seeing as she actually DID f*ck the monkey when it comes to our handling of these nuts...

Id actually take Hillary, she is a snake and not a very good person but she for sure could handle this situation better than Trump is or will.

It is interesting how some people here and out in our great land actually fault Obama for how he handled NK...in my opinion the way he handled it is the best way in a total no win situation.

There is no way this ends up a net positive, for the US and especially for citizens in North and especially South Korea.

Trumps bull approach could easily cost millions of innocent lives as NK will most positively turn on the South and they will suffer before we can do anything about it. And as our moron leader says that we will NUKE them, who is sitting right in the middle of his grand plan? Yeah those innocent South Koreans who for sure do not deserve whatever the hot head in chief has planned.

I was pretty sure you'd double down with Hillary-

Why do you think she could handle this situation?- she bungled almost everything she touched while Secretary of State; ffs, she couldn't even keep her communications secure- notice she didn't run on her accomplishments when she was actually in a position to influence (which would have made perfect sense, if she actually had any), it was always only that she was the most experienced...

Furthermore, her husband started this shyteball rolling with N Korea-Bush did nothing to curtail it- and as was said elsewhere- Obama went riding girl's bicycles in Martha's Vineyard...

I dont think you can find many posts of mine that state I voted for or care about Hillary at all, in fact she is a very rotten and underhanded person. I thought that back when Bill was in office and I think the same if not worse now.

That said I would take her over Trump...the conclusion is much more a commentary on Trump than me liking Hillary.

There is not a winning solution for NK...none. So why not put a muzzle on the guy and not give him headline attention? Minimize his ego and reduce the ammt of time he gets because that is exactly what the guy thrives on.

Quite a bit of similarity in that area with the clown-in-chief for sure.

obama did nothing by further the lie to the American people and kick the can down the road.  Bottom line he said a nuclear NK could not be tolerated.  NK has nukes so obama, bush, and Clinton all failed   This is one of the main reasons trump was elected as the American people were tired of business as usual and nothing getting done

I dont know the behind the scenes action as I doubt anyone does but putting him in the BACKGROUND should be our focus, it is the only sensible solution...but the guy in charge for sure does not have that concept in his mindset, I dont think he is capable of accomplishing this because it would also mean HE has to cool it and ignore the guy, put him on ignore and stop playing his game.

He didn't have nuclear weapon capabilities when this all started, we ignored and appeased, now he does- and the solution is to continue to ignore and appease vs confront?

Who has control when an ego maniac is not the center of attention?

There is not a solution that can be positive if we engage like this. Like Saddam if he wants to think of himself as a regional bully tough guy who cares?

Do you think China is going to allow NK the ability to make weapons capable of reaching them? China is the choke chain on NK not the US. If NK makes a weapon that can reach the US, then it can also reach China. 

I dont think the road Trump is travelling down will end well for anyone involved, but especially bad for South Korea.

This point is something our current State Department is not taking advantage of as China/North Korea relations are at an all time low.

I feel like Trump has tried to put pressure on China- of course, every time he says the word China, the MSM collectively soils their capris and screams "Trade War!".


At some point (having 4 kids and having run a business with several employees I know I have uttered this at least a hundred times), you have to say to China, either you solve this or I will.  But, of course, once you say that, you better be ready to back it up...I feel like that's where we are now-

Trump has bashed China so much I am not sure how excited they are to try and work with him. Trump has a way of belittling others and using his big fat mouth in a very negative derisive manner...diplomacy is not a word in his vocabulary.

The folks who lack this love Trump and his shallow ego big mouth routine, but they are not the ones trying to work WITH China and be against them at the same time.

I think his approach is flawed all over the place and you cannot effectively run a country by bullying as your lone tool..it wont work.
