Now, as the presidential campaign begins its post-Labor Day finale, the question
has become less about what Americans know of Trump's character but whether
they care. Trump appears to be betting they don't.
He's continued his attacks on war heroes and generals, even as he tries to claim
utmost respect for the military. And he's dismissing efforts to reckon with the
country's racist past, even as he works to convince suburban White voters
he's not racist himself.

It didn't cost him in 2016.
But 2020 could be different: since then, voters have been bombarded with
more examples of the President using crude, sexist or racist language,
erasing any notion the office might change him and throwing the country's
politics into turmoil.

At its heart, the 2020 campaign has always been about character.
Even a life-altering pandemic, an economic calamity and a national racial
reckoning have become tests of the incumbent's constitution:
Whether Trump cared enough to confront a health crisis,
whether he understood the suffering of out-of-work Americans and
whether he could speak with compassion to those who have historically
been oppressed in the United States.

Joe Biden has made Trump's character the central argument of his campaign.

Trump launches unprecedented attack

President Trump launched an unprecedented public attack against the
leadership of the US military on Monday, accusing them of waging wars
to boost the profits of defense manufacturing companies.

Trump's extraordinary comments come as several defense officials
tell CNN relations between the President and Pentagon leadership
are becoming increasingly strained.

"The President's comments about the motivations of military leaders  
not only demeans their service and that of those they lead; 
he lends credence to the very disdain and thoughtlessness he tries to deny"    
retired US Navy Rear Admiral John Kirby said.

The Chief of Staff of the Army, Gen. James McConville, rejected 
trump's idea that military commanders are influenced by defense firms.
"I can assure the American people that the senior leaders would only
recommend sending our troops to combat when it's required in national
security and the last resort. We take this very, VERY seriously in how we
make our recommendations"

President Donald Trump has vehemently denied reports that he skipped
a 2018 visit to a World War I memorial in France because he considered
the cemetery “filled with losers,” as the Atlantic first reported.

Trump told reporters yesterday that he “called home” to Melania
at the time and told her how upset he was for not being able to visit
the cemetery.

Trump claims he: “called home, I spoke to my wife and I said
‘I hate this. I came here to go to that ceremony.’

Facts First:
Melania Trump was on the SAME TRIP with the President and was
scheduled to attend the cemetery visit.  

She was NOT in the US !

A readout from the first lady’s office at the time said that
“Due to inclement weather, the First Lady and President
were unable to visit the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery ”

That evening, Trump and Melania went to a dinner together
hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron.

McCain should not have gotten caught. Mattis needed to keep his pie hole shut, as did Vindman. They called those guys patriots because the told the "truth". These anonymous sources are ridiculous for not coming out. It certainly turned out alright for those who came forward in the impeachment trial. I think they are all still employed? Anyone who has had bone spurs knows it is a painful predicament. People are mean sometimes. I feel sorry for president Trump. He has done a phenomenal job with the pandemic and in bringing our country together in a time of turmoil. I am also quite happy he has done a good job in taking us out of any of that climate bullshit. That Thunburg girl seems angry and needs to take a break. Clearly there is no climate change. American veterans are pushing back after President Donald Trump
reportedly dismissed U.S. troops killed in action as “losers” and “suckers.”

One retired Army officer is calling him out publicly over the comments.

“You’re no patriot,” retired Maj. Gen. Paul Eaton said in a video posted online.
Mr. Trump, come 3 November, we’re all voting for a real patriot: Joe Biden,”
Eaton said, then urged others to do the same.
“Our country’s honor depends on it.”

According to the Washington Post, anonymous sources told Woodward
that Trump was speaking with White House trade adviser Peter Navarro
when he complained that:  “my fucking generals are a bunch of pussies.
They care more about their alliances than they do about trade deals.”

Former Defense Secretary William Cohen said Wednesday that
President Trump was "unfit to serve as commander-in-chief,"
following new revelations of disparaging comments Trump
said about US generals in Bob Woodward's new book "Rage."

"He is seeking to divide our soldiers, sailors, marines, coast guardsmen
from the commanding officers, and to say that they are only kind of
middle men or war merchants, I think is an absolute criminal activity
to indict our highest most effective leaders in the world, our military,"
Cohen told CNN's Wolf Blitzer.

“You can go through a litany of past things that he said from his mouth,
actions that he’s taken, and it corroborates really the Goldberg article
in The Atlantic,” said Chuck Hagel, who headed the Department of Defense
from 2013-2015.

Per three unnamed sources “with direct knowledge,” Trump didn’t want his
administration to support McCain’s funeral (to which the president wasn’t invited).
“We’re not going to support that loser’s funeral,” Trump told aides,
and then got upset when he saw flags at half-mast:
“What the fuck are we doing that for? Guy was a fucking loser.”

Three unnamed sources “with direct knowledge” also confirm that Trump
— on at least two occasions — referred to former President George H.W. Bush
as a “loser” for getting shot down as a Navy pilot in Japan during World War II.

The McCain part has an on-the-record defender. Miles Taylor,
who served as chief of staff at the Department of Homeland Security
from 2017 to 2019 under trump, tweeted Friday morning to correct
trump's lie:

In Woodward's book, there is an anecdote where an aide to former
Defense Secretary James Mattis heard Trump say in a meeting,
"my f---ing generals are a bunch of p---ies" because they
"cared more about alliances than trade deals."

Former NATO Supreme Allied Commander Gen. Wesley Clark
in discussing Trump's disparaging comments, saying Trump
"clearly doesn't understand the value of the alliances."

"President Trump is a transactional person," Clark added.
"He values everything on the basis of money. ...
He doesn't understand national security.
He doesn't understand what's made America great.
And he certainly doesn't understand the ethics and the
qualities of our senior leaders in uniform."

Defending this POS is just despicable!
We could speculate a number of reasons that would be applicable to some,
though not necessarily applicable to all.
Still, a lot of Germans supported their leader in the years 1938 - 1945
