Now, as for the argument about borders, both parties are playing to the audience because they will not admit or face the true roots of the problem. There are two, 1) Poverty in Latin America and 2) the MARKET for illegal drugs in the United States. Latin America is desperate and a safer, more productive life in the U.S. is highly desirable. You might remember that that is probably why your ancestors came here. The sheer dollars U.S. citizens are willing to spend in order to stay stoned half the time is what creates the drug cartels and crime rate, whether it is immigrants or common street thugs of U.S. birthright citizenship.

The wall does nothing to stop the drug trade because the supply is more motivated and funded than the DEA is, so you can build a 100 ft wall and a mile deep and it will not stop drugs from coming to this country or illegal from entering...it just means they have to find other ways to accomplish their objectives.

Check it out...there are many companies who do nothing but take advantage of the HB Visa loophole, bring over cut rate and underskilled labor from India and China, subcontract out to tech firms, give a cheaper and lesser skilled employee to firms like Honeywell, Intel, MicroChip, etc etc and they keep the middle as their profit. Go check it out...see what the difference in an underskilled, undereducated college grad from India makes vs a college grad from the US..same position, better skill set.

In all seriousness, Wally, it goes deeper even than what you say. To springboard off of your point, let us also mention the spots in top American universities that go to Indians, East Asians, ect. And Arabs as well. Not "fly planes into buildings" arabs. More like, "Hi, i'm your new doctor." arabs. So not only are they taking high paying jobs from Americans, many of them in the tech sector and medical field, they are taking the schooling from Americans to then take the jobs. This "nationalism" that has sprang to life in so many over the last few years is completely misplaced. And this is coming from someone who is completely for a wall, but not because of the spook stories the right tells about bad hombres and job takers. I mean every time I hear "MS-13", I laugh. All that is true but my comments have been on this thread and the topic of the wall and the concept of what SOLID jobs that illegals crossing the border are taking...the jobs that provide a real income, benefits and are in demand from US citizens.
The wall has to be about something, it isnt about drugs because it wont help and I dont think the government really cares to invest what it takes to stop the flow, nor to educate and change the demand aspect of the equation. The wall cannot be about crime because that will not materially impact crime because illegals will still get in irregardless of the wall. It cant be about social cost because illegals provide a larger social benefit than any costs they take..they do jobs at a discount that the white folk dont want to do and thus are providing more profit for the biz owner and cheaper goods for the consumer. Think of how much produce would cost if we paid market rates on labor, how much more labor costs would be to builders, landscape owners, etc etc...the social benefit of illegals outweigh costs to me. And if we really wanted to reduce medical costs, hunting down illegals is picking up pennies while thousand dollar bills are flying by...its a zero on the scale of cost. If we are mad about the food stamp usage its the same thing...we allow biz to sell garbage food for great profits through our food stamp program, if we wanted to SAVE money on that program we would reform it and maximize it and in doing so greatly reduce cost and increase real benefit.
So this wall has to be about something...if it is about jobs as I mentioned, why are we wizzing over illegals when we are allowing Tata and about 50 other firms to steal BILLIONS from US workers, jobs that are real have benefits and savings and a future?
