The biggest example of Karma is when a team fails to make personnel moves so obviously detrimental to their own success it will always show up at the most inopportune time. Parkey gave the Bears, and specifically GM Pace, all the examples of ineptitude needed to bring in a kicker during the regular season and they chose to ride or die.
Regardless of the outcome the game was hard fought and entertaining to the end. I think the team that is happiest is probably the Cowboys since they will not be the ones getting mauled in New Orleans next weekend.

A little confused about the 5th most catches stat that keeps getting mentioned. When I looked at the stats just now the Bears are 5th worst in the NFC in number of catches allowed but 3rd best in yards allowed. Philly is worst in number of catches and second to last in yards allowed??? In the NFL the Eagles are dead last in catches allowed and third worst in yards allowed. Does any of the that matter or help us win money on Sunday? Maybe if there was a statement behind why it matters or how it directly impacts the game we could have a productive discussion.
As I stated in an earlier post, stats can be picked to suit any argument however, accuracy and relativity would be a nice addition.

Anyone could go and find stats that fit a narrative that seemingly add legitimacy to the “my team is better than your team” position. I have only seen a couple Eagles games this year and so I will not comment on their strengths and deficiencies because it would be recycled commentary which most of posts on the opposing team have been. I have however watched every Bears game and will focus on those, specifically their weaknesses as I have seen them.
1. Special Teams: The struggles with Parkey are real and he is consistently inconsistent. Didn’t practice kicking field goals at Soldier before the goal post game and there has not been a marked improvement since. Distance wise he is able to range under 50, accuracy not withstanding. Nagy will absolutely take this into account and has with 4th down and two point conversion decisions this year however, if it comes down to a decisive field goal attempt Nagy will send him to kick. Coverage and returns have been acceptable with the exception of the Patriots game where a blocked punt returned for 6 and a return TD sealed their fate. The question this week will be who returns with health potentially forcing a change. Talk on Bears Radio eluded to Cohen maybe being the guy. 2. To the outsider the quick and short passing game has been an issue in a couple games specifically Miami, NE and the first Green Bay game. The thing that hurt the Bears in these games was not the completions but rather the yards after catch caused by missed tackles. Some of the numbers in an earlier post were the direct result of missed tackles not guys out of position. This has been largely cleaned up of late and don’t expect this to be an issue Sunday. 3. Trubisky: There is a full spectrum of confidence about Mitchell (good, bad etc). In my opinion he is a young QB in the first year of a system and thus has been inconsistent. He relies heavily on RPO and first read to get going and sustain drives. The schemes Nagy asks him accomplish play to his strengths. He has gotten in trouble with zone coverage and simultaneous pressure. He has had a tendency to miss high when he misses and that has led to picks. I expect he will do a lot more running this week with designed runs and rollouts. I see the Bears making a concerted effort to run the ball on offense augmented with short first read passes. The return of Long will help aid the ground game. They will hope to play with a lead as they have most of the year which plays to their defense and the pressure and turnovers that brings. The defense will be what they have been and will have Jackson back. Bears lose if they do not tackle well, have special teams issues or fall behind early putting the game in Trubisky’s hands. I think the first team to 20 wins. Be interested to hear from Philly fans how you see your team losing this game. |

Offensive line is down to 3 starters...
Receivers are all injured and the ones remaining are practice squad guys... Mike Glennon is Mike Glennon... John Fox is John Fox... I don't think the Bears will score in this game. They caught an Atlanta team looking ahead in week 1 which swayed people's perception. Yesterday they got a garbage time TD to post their only score against a team playing their first game of the year. They have zero margin for error and the turnovers will continue. The strength of this team was supposed to be the defense and the running game, but when they get down both of those will be eliminated through fatigue and time. |

Random thoughts about sh!t I don't understand. Feel free to post yours and rest assured someone who "is" smarter than the next guy may answer it. No hostility just discussion and deep thoughts like Stuart Smalley or Shallow Musings like Mike Leech...
Here's my first one; Why is the playoff left up to a room of people nobody cares about that have either retired or quit and the process is shrouded in such secrecy that the poor bastard they parade out every Tuesday looks like even he doesn't know WTF the criteria is to make the top 4?

There is a huge gulf in ability between both teams and it's amazing there are only 13 points between the teams at half time. I agree with everything relating to the ineptitude displayed but most prevalent was the tackling. Amazing that YAC has looked like a concerted effort by A&M to allow them. Good to see you Jimmy, not ki$$ing a$$ but you've made me money a few times in the past so as one stranger to another welcome brother. As I sit here at 2130 I have to wonder WTF is wrong with all of us OR why are we so fusing awesome that instead of quality family time we have chosen to get hammered and post our thoughts on a meaningless game...wait that may just be me!

Slightly related, can't wait for January 20th! Herman might be "the guy" or another shiny object of affection. How many coaches at top tier teams have been picked up recently and made a substantial difference? Most often this feels like a one team sport with a few teams clawing for inclusion and a bunch of good coaches (as portrayed by the media) underwhelming. You may be right Wahoo and to be honest I could care less who goes to any SEC school. I'm just a lowly Badgers fan wondering why LSU has to suck so bad it hurts their strength of schedule.

Not sure what the appetite for FSU matching offers was but it was reported yesterday the AD at Houston said if Herman decides to leave it wouldn't be because of money. I'm a Big 10 guy but as an outsider I'd like to see someone, anyone build something that can challenge Satan annually. Is that Herman? Who knows, but we do know with the talent that team pulls down every year it wasn't Miles or Orgeron.

What is sure though, is a coach will look for something to get a losing program up for a primetime game. I can tell you as a Bears fan it ,alters not what a coach says or what the motivational factor is they will suck regardless. I'll just eat leftovers and keep the Cubs in mind...

Finalizing contract according to ESPN. Surprise to me I thought Jimbo was the guy. This puts Texas in the hunt now as I think they thought Herman was their guy.

GL Sac here's to a good thanksgiving and A&M finding enough false motivation to stick within the number. BOL brother.

Seen most posts saying pass or there are better games but, I get through and stay happy during thanksgiving with certain member of the family by ensuring I have something going on every game.
The plan is always drink, eat, gamble and drink... A&M is hanging early and the early NFL games got me at 2-0 so the worst I can do at this point is wake up with a hangover and a little on the positive. Hope everyone's Thanksgiving was great and GLTA. Oh and while I'm rambling I don't think either of "my" teams cover this weekend. Like Tenn - anything under 7 and Minnesota + anything over 14.

Wanted to see where people are falling on this game. Fournette is out with an ankle and LSU struggled to score last week, albeit against a solid defense in Florida. I'm liking the points and home field any reason I shouldn't?

Outside of the QB situation already discussed they may be down 11 of the 22 starters for this game. Most are injured and a couple are suspended. Funny thing about them taking PEDs is the performance was never enhanced.

Ummm it actually does not work that way!! U need to educate yourself on college ball some. All that matters is rankings at the end. If u beat a top 5 team at beginning of season and they go on to lose all other games they actually bring u down cuz at the end they suck doesn't matter what they were when u beat them. Again I'm not on the rules committee but that's the way it works My statement was they beat three top ten teams. That is a fact based on the rankings at the time. Clearly the seasons results will dictate what impact those victories have when all is said and done. Hard to have a thoughtful conversation when you have to clarify the most basic things in order to move the discussion forward. It is entertaining that instead of having a conversation based on positions you resort to insults. I could take offense at your "need to educate" comment but based on the way you write it would be in vain. I'll make this easy so you can understand at your level. The winner of the big ten will be considered for the playoff whoever that may be. Have a good night fellas and hope everyone made some today.

Won't happen I'm not predicting Wisconsin gets in but my response was to your point their not in the discussion. They will have played a quality schedule and have "quality" losses if there is such a thing. Alvarez sits on the committee and although excluded from the direct discussion pertaining to UW he will no doubt be a proponent. We still have some football to play, but the point I was making, which was clearly missed, is that if the conference championship doesn't weigh heavily into the consideration of playoff teams then what is the point of playing it? Think about the NFL from which parallels could be drawn regarding the playoff; if a team sweeps a divisional opponent in the regular season but loses the division should they still make the playoffs?
