replied to NFL Week 2 in NFL Betting I don't normally bet the first few weeks to avoid the high-variance, in case it all goes balls up... like 0-5, for instance. I'm better off riding the variance the next few weeks now rather than sitting out to 'protect' an 0-5 hole. I'm just as likely to add some wins as to collect more losses. This is a short term result in a season-long grind of +EV spots. In the short time it emotionally makes sense to sit back and wait, but with variance being what it is the first month, I'm just as likely to add a bunch of wins as to add more losses. Now that I've started, it makes sense to ride the variance out as the model adjusts. In reality, I should've just sat out til Week 4 as usual. Be careful with 'betting %' statistics -- they are created from incomplete data which doesn't actually come from the world's 2-3 biggest linemaking books.
