I welcome arguments. If I’m wrong, I wanna know.
That said, a friend of mine who is new to sports gambling asked me about this. He said that he heard that when the new lines come out for the NFL on Sunday night, they are “accurate”.
Number one, if they are accurate (whatever that means), then doesn’t that mean that it would be more difficult to win a wager?
Number two… wouldn’t that mean that you should wait?
I told him that it’s all a crap shoot. I’ve been betting sports for about 20 years. You might want to jump on a line that seems too low or too high. If you’re good (and that’s takes DECADES of knowledge), you’ll be right 55 to 65 percent of the time. You could jump on the Eagles giving 6 thinking they’re gonna win by 21. But then the line moves to 5-1/2 two hours later. Then they win by 6. You push, and the patient people that grabbed 5-1/2 won.
Or they win by 1 and all of you lose. Or they win by 31 and all of you win.
All that being said, I know for a fact that if you’re good, 55 to 65 percent of the time, you can spot the lines that are WAY OFF, and a point or two WILL NOT even come into play. Sports gambling is EXTREMELY difficult to succeed long term, and if you’re a beginner reading this, bet small to start. Learn money management. Unit management. Give it a year and look at your results. And if you’re a veteran, you’re probably laughing and thinking “everyone knows this”. Except not everyone does.
I don’t profess to be a conveyor of wisdom but if you’re thinking about gambling and making money, just know that most people fail. Just know that professional gambling PROBABLY has the highest failure rate of any profession. EVER. Considering all of that, I cannot imagine life without gambling. I’ve had highs and lows. I’m in the black, but the time investment hasn’t been worth it. YET.
At this point I think gambling is “in my blood”. I don’t even know what that means exactly but I don’t believe in free will so… there’s that.
I know it’s late, and I haven’t been active in this community lately, but I wish all of you the best of luck, and a very prosperous new year.

@lennon65 I can’t believe I had never even heard of it before. I liked it. I was thinking “ there’s no way someone would do that”. I mean when he dropped 15K on each of those games after getting that money from his mother. But I’m sure people actually do stupid shit like that. Crazy.

I worked in the chemical dependency field for over 5 years and I don’t know if it’s just my perception but it seems to me that there are a lot of trans and gays working in that field. Everyone I worked with was great, except for this one particular person. She was a new hire. And my supervisor. She was a C U next Tuesday. She was probably the President of the C U Next Tuesday Company. |

I used to think I was a degenerate. Then I watched this movie the other night. If nothing else, it made me feel better about myself. |

Stoicism is key. I don’t claim to be an expert in it but I try to keep myself level at all times. Someone cuts me off… so what? It accomplishes nothing to get upset and in fact just stresses me out. It’s not in my best interest to care one bit.
Besides, she probably didn’t even mean to cut me off. And even if she did, why should I care? Why should I get upset? It still accomplishes nothing whatsoever. My life changed in so many ways once I realized that free will is a myth. If she meant to cut me off, maybe she just doesn’t care because she just found out that her husband has been having an affair. Maybe she’s just a rude person in general. Why is that? Did her step father abuse her? Was her mother an addict that neglected her every day? Whatever the case, it doesn’t matter to me. The only thing I want to do is carry on with my life and get to where I want to go. Your mind is a powerful thing and if you allow it, it can be your own prison. |

I have a self propelled mower but my buddies tell me that it qualifies as a push mower. So it’s a push mower that you don’t push? Why don’t we call these things go mowers? Or no push mowers? |

I think about free will and religion all the time. I’m convinced it’s all BS. I think about consciousness, reality, why people do what they do (we can’t possibly explain some of it). I think about the hard problem of consciousness (see David Chalmers). I think about how we are nothing more than bags of chemicals, yet we experience happiness, joy, love, etc. How?
I think about the insanity of this world, and how much animals—humans included—suffer all the time. It makes me sad.
But to keep myself sane, I focus more on the positive. The funny. The good. I constantly remind myself that everything is temporary, and that it’s never as good or as bad as it may seem.
I think about how in the blink of an eye, none of us will be here, and nobody will remember us. Life is beautiful, and so short. With the absence of free will (and it is an actual myth), life is just a roller coaster ride. Strap in and enjoy because whatever is gonna happen will indeed happen, and there’s nothing we can do.
I think about the hate that so many people spread, and how insanely stupid they are. But then I always have to remind myself that they can’t help it. It’s what they believe. It’s what their parents believe. And their grandparents. Their beliefs have been passed down and their brains are imprinted. They truly believe that their hate is a good thing. That it’s all necessary to protect their rights, and their families. They’re stuck in a delusional reality and they can’t get out.
I could go on for hours like any of you could but I’ll spare you the agony. Peace and love to you all.

Grab the Bills giving 9. They’ll cover that in the first quarter. Then they’ll go on to win by 28 at the very least. |

I’m convinced. There’s no dumber team in the NFL. Although sometimes I watch the Steelers and I am absolutely amazed by some of the things they do. It’s mind blowing. |

They’re just gonna get humiliated in the first round again. I would rather they didn’t make the playoffs. |

@JimmyGape Happy New Year bud. I gotta push back, but that’s to be expected of me. I’m a huge Cannabis advocate. As for young people that abuse it becoming more “susceptible” to the things you mentioned, again, there’s zero evidence of that. It’s actually misinformation. There is however real scientific research that supports the notion that Cannabis can promote brain cell growth, and essentially make a person more compassionate and empathetic. There’s also research that unequivocally proves that it destroys cancer cells. Not to mention that thousands of minors die as a direct result of alcohol abuse every year, and that 0 die from Cannabis abuse. I once tried to find statistics on people dying in car crashes after ONLY ingesting Cannabis. After several hours, I gave up. I’m sure it happens, but I know that it’s very rare. I’m done. Just couldn’t help myself from countering your comments.
Peace dude! |
