Euro Qualifiers..... (futures, thoughts, plays)

Settle, regarding Azzurri. its funny, Mancini was quoted earlier this week in saying 'our best defense is ball pressure"

if you dont think global warming has an effect on the environment then heres proof: Italy is FOURTH in scoring in all of europe during these qualifiers.

im still trying to wrap my melon around that yes.... i know....... creampuffs. yet still.

but heres the thing which Mancini WONT ever admit..... and its the truth...... with Giorgio no long back there, Mancini plays offensively simply because he cant really yet trust our backline to hold a lead. where we are at right now, if we play Spain, Belgium, Enlgand, France, Germany etc etc in a meaningful game? well...... good luck with that "ball pressure" thing we'll get our butts kicked into the Atlantic.

regarding line movement? i dont pay pay attention to that stuff. honestly, i dont. its not an ego-thing. its just basically been 'trained" through all these years dealing with Serie A and lower divisions within italy. most of the time the people whom move the lines know less about the sport than thyself or the group of guys in our fantasy group do and you just wouldnt believe how "loyal" people out here are to their teams, and that loyalty goes straight to their wallets too.

and found self more and more focused with the 'situational' side of this thing. "if know what spots to look for then things are easier to find". doesnt guarantee anything and definitely might not hit everything (im not immune to chunk-blowing sessions) but one can find incredible value within lines if know where to look. its just too time consuming to do this with other countries tho, i refuse to let this hobby dictate thy everyday life. and see a lot of people mixing their finances in with this, thats a grave mistake. if theres bills to pay, and "need" this money for other things then ya shouldnt be doing it.

my response to this is..... when your Greek team won Euros back earlier in this century. lessons from that i still carry with me today. worst one-month stretch in my life. got my teeth kicked in and confidence shot to holy h*ll for a long time simply becuase my mind REFUSED to believe 'Greece can do this again' so.... YES. agree 100% the mind is a dangerous tool as well

Swedes put on a masterclass, barring an injury crisis, these guys going to be a tough out again next summer. was more concerned with our approach as apposed to win/loss; after missing out on the WC general feeling is we lost that right/privilege to 'take nights off'.

just found out we are given a Top Seed, im not quite sure how ya go from missing the WC to being a top seed for euros makes any sense but at least we get to play all our matches at home. so cant complain; & we wont get Belgium, England, France, etc etc till later.

"big winner" today i think was Belarus, and they didnt even play. if im reading this properly: because Fins won the auto-direct advancement (they also won their UNL Group), so that leaves one "extra" spot opening. and i think UEFA's rules stating it goes to Belarus.

when I have to read guidelines TWICE just to *****-ing understand it then it cant be a good rule to begin with. cazzo!

tmrws card is awful at glance. might take a stab at N. Ireland on the HC. we'll see

a few quick plays.

need Austria & Croats to grab 'w' to help with futures; Ill be a big Croatia-fan tonight.

Azerbajan/Wales - huge match for the Welsh side, to have any chance of advancing theyll need a 'w' here. but its hard to back a team on the HC whom have scored more than 1 goal just ONCE in their past 13 matches, and never mind theyre on the road too. PASS.

San Marino/Kazak - SM has a -43 goal difference in 8 matches. funny stat, theyve trailed by halftime @home by 2+ goals to everyone except #1 in the world Belgium. go figure. in reverse fixture, Kazaks had 75% possession, 17/1 corners, and a 25/2 shots. suprised this line has dropped. Kazak -2.5 @-115.

Slovenia -1.5 @+175, O1.5 @+125 (halftime) - with that trip to Poland on deck they most likely will try to put this one away early.

N Ireland/Netherlands - im suprised at this line. books giving NI a little too much respect. yes, they are tough as nails to play against, but I dont think theyre going to hold off the Dutch for 80 minutes again like they did in Amsterdam. and there-in lies their problems. they need to win. and when a defensive oriented team is forced to approach a match where they need to eventually open it up and go for the 'w'? problemos, problemos, problemos. (similar to thy writeup last week when Tottenham paid Crvena a visit). im on this scenario every time. NI/Netherlands over 2.5 @-111, and lets toss some on the O3.5 @+210 as well. which is nicely priced. i actually think NI can score here and the draw does them no good.

took a pass with ystday card (well.. sort of); impossible to determine motivation. Sat results:

Kazak -2.5 @-115(L)

Slovenia -1.5 @+175, O1.5 @+125 (halftime) (L, L)

NI/Netherlands over 2.5 @-111 O3.5 @+210 (L)

at first glance might seem bad but was happier than a duck in water as first future came in with Austrians advancing + Croats kept Slovakia at a distance*

(this make for one h*ll of an angle to cap for Tuesday night)

not posted but took a 5-match FUN "Creampuff special" for the heck of it with those weaklings whom are at home going up against opponents with absolutely nothing to play for whom would probably elect to forfeit and stay home if were allowed to.

moldava, andorra, malta, liecht, and san marino with the +2 HC.im suprised this even made it to the 2nd day got a 'push' with the Turks banging in 2 in the first 20 minutes and then took the rest of the night off.

. 2 down, 3 to go.

Monday: well, in the messed up qualification process - not going to explain the d*mn thing - apparently Armenia & Romania can still get a playoff spot with wins, doing that is another matter tho. decided to have fun tonight. if its a chunk-blowing special so be it.

Greece to win @+115 (posted few days ago when Finland went up 2-0 in their clincher). like in previous WC/Euros, all those teams whom clinched and had nothing to pay for in their final match pretty much played that way. and this year has held true for the most part as well as France, Turkey, Port just sat on early leads and Czech did absolutely nothing once they heard England taking the lead to eliminate Kosovo.

Spain/Romania - kind of like the visitors here to keep this one close. going up against a heavily rotated Spanish lineup with nothing to play for. Romania +1.5 @+140

Group D: the "fun" begins. and if Switz + Denmark really dont give a ****, they both have that playoff spot in their back pockets from the UNL.

Gibraltar/Switz - Gibraltar WOULD HAVE been on that list above but Switz needs the points. Switz played like cr*p @home in a match they needed to win a few days ago; barely beating Georgia with rather late 77th min goal. technically, they dont even need to win this one as they hold the tiebreaker over Ireland so a draw will suit them. but I'm thinking Petkovic ripped his team a new one on that flight and Switz should put this one away quickly. Switz -2 @+137 (halftime). push at worst.

Italy/Armenia - 10-0-0 looks kind of neat. Armenians lost at home 3 days ago, and their slim chance of qualifying too. so that 2800km flight is probably the last thing on their minds. and they put this match down there in Sicily, i wont get into this ascpect but lets just say playing down there pretty much assures we will put forth the effort; Azzurri has cleansheeted 5 of their past 6 at home & Mancini sending out a bunch of first-timers/bench hungry to get their names on the Azzurri scoring book. not sure if this is going to be easy; Armenians coach going with 5 in the back again. cazzo!!!! (i guess thats their way of 'playing for fun'); but they are missing their GK, their best defender, a suspended midfielder, and their best player/capt is still ruled out. taking a shot at the 1st half over 1.5 @+110

***EDIT*** lineups confirmed. geez. Mancini

Tonali,Jorginho,Zaniolo,Immobie,Chiesa? i guess we wont be 'sitting back' tonight. so that -2.5 is close enough to evens to take a shot at. Italy -2.5 @-111

Liecht/Bosnia - Bosnians eliminated from the auto slot so theyll try their luck with the playoff route. of course this doesnt "guarantee" anything, i dont make those kind of statements, but the "mentality" of certain countries - ill back them to the high heavens when they are motivated. but Bosnians are one country where it just isnt wise to back them in these spots. when they have nothing to play for, they play for nothing. maybe theyll put forth a great game and royally THUMP them but history tells a different story. 4 years ago this same group had a meaningless game in cr*ppy Cyprus; found themselves being totally dominated and were actually down 2-1 before scoring a few late ones. during WC qualifiers 2 years ago they went to middle-of-nowhere Estonia in final round with a berth at stake. problem is Greeks were in Gibraltar. when they found out Greeks scored, Bosnians just basically... quit. Estonia even drew level. and lets fast forward to the Nations League, after winning 3 straight and clinching 1st place they went to Austria and had a scoreless draw putting just 3 shots on target. so here we go again. got Liecht in that fun parlay but gosh that btts looks sweet so lets toss some on there: btts @+175 and in an adventurous mood so ill put some on that btts + over 2.5 @+200 as well. again, not large risks.

Tuesday:

Wales/Hungary - not quite sure what to do with this one. BOTH in "must-win" scenario. **** if Hungary draws, they most likely will be left outside because Slovaks "should" win @home vs Azer. both will be level on 13 pts but Slovaks get the tiebreaker based on H2H's. *** and Hungary had a weeks rest planning, preparing, strategy to get ready whilst Wales had that nasty LONG trip to Azer 3 days ago. all i know is the final 20 minutes should be fun, especially if the match is level, its RARE to see BOTH teams needing to win in these situations. might be forced to do a in-game to hedge the future. we'll see.

ice honestly (ill have to go back and check) but i dont think i hit a single play involving Switz match this entire qualifiers.

well, I guess we wanted to catch England for the goals; lineup caught a bunch of us off-guard, it was down there in Sicily, more annoyed at NOT unloading on that than anything else. ehhhh...... the Greeks came in nicely, Spain decided to show up and dont know what happened to the Ire/Den writeup but had the btts there. tho small plays, Liecht: 0 corners, 0 shots, 20% posession; not exactly sure what I was thinking there.

Wales/Hungary - as mentioned ystday, MIGHT hedge this in some way/shape/manner as got that future with Hungary advancing. a perfect scenario is them taking an early lead. for those of you whom do the live-betting; IF THE MATCH IS LEVEL, might be worth the while to perhaps take the 'goal' option for the last half hour (or as late as you can get it). again, BOTH need to go for the win; its somewhat of a "rare" scenario. Hungary cannot be satisfied with the draw, if Slovakia are leading Azerbajan - which they should - the will own the tiebreaker over Hungary. and of course, Wales obviously cant afford a draw. might below scoring, but those final 20-30 minutes, if you can get '+' money on anything its probably worth the while for a match which could very well end up going back n forth.

Latvia +1.5 @+130 - Austrians qualified. dont get why line moving on me since last night. a meaningless trip to Latvia cant be high up on their 'to-do' list.

Slovakia -2 @+130 - a little 'risky' as if Hungary takes a big lead up there in Wales the Slovaks might simply stop playing. so im somehwat hoping they get this taken care of early. missing a key midfielder, coming off a tough loss in Croatia. though they won the reverse 5-1 it wasnt exactly dominating. still, its with '+' money so worth the shot.

Netherlands/Estonia over 2 @+115 (1st half)

Macedonia/Israel - both apparently advancing to playoffs (Macedonia via Nations League and Israel..... dont ask). so a meaningless match; Macedonians havent kept anybody out of the back of the net and the btts has hit in all but one of Israelis matches. BTTS + over 2.5 @+108

San Marino/Russia - LOL. so, 3 days after hosting the #1 on the planet - and getting their butts thumped - now have to make a 2800km flight to play the worst europe has to offer on a pitch which looks like there was a rugby match the night before with 2nd stringers/bench. and the 5.5 is juiced???? tempting. having a very good qualifiers, slow evening, decided to take one last roll of the marbles. in that "not sure what i am thinking" category. and like last nights Italy match, all it takes is one major brainfart from someone getting playing time in any of these.small plays

Well, Euros set: still have the "fill-ins" from the playoff qualifying

Group A: Turkey, Italy, Wales, Switzerland

Group B: Denmark, Finland, Belgium, Russia

Group C: Netherlands, Ukraine, Austria, Georgia/Belarus/North Macedonia/Kosovo

Group D: England, Croatia, Scotland/Israel/Norway/Serbia, Czech Republic

Group E: Spain, Sweden, Poland, Bosnia-Herzegovina/Northern Ireland/Slovakia/Republic of Ireland

Group F: Iceland/Romania/Bulgaria/Hungary, Portugal, France, Germany

quick thoughts: and perhaps another UEFA RANT.all these 'paths'

- Azzurri have a 'winnable' group. wont be easy though, at least get to play @home

- how you get Portugal, France, and Germany in same group is beyond me.

- Spain & Sweden + Belgium & Russia paired in SAME groups again? cmon UEFA.

-Lions & Croats one last ttime

Playoffs:

still have two futures hanging in balance. thy biggest worry was for Bosnia to get stuck with one of those Irish lads, and not only that... they have BOTH of them in their group. cazzo. Hungary still has a chance with the other. Kosovo should get out of that last one.

great group for england, books here have England as faves with homefield advantage for the KO games, very presumptuous, group F really is the original group of death, not really a fan of expanding the tournament, sorry scotland, u still won't qualify an_wink , would love everyone's fairytale underdog Kosovo to make it thru, should be a good summer

as always, tks fer stopping by. ditto, kind of like the setup, just not the expansion. those "backdoor" entries via playoffs are a turn off. at least from a supporters perspective in that it makes it a ton much easier to arrange/plan travels for. ya know, a buddy had the entire brackets put up with teams etc etc, was interesting. a lot of "way-too-soon" talk but fun nonetheless. We got 4-digit prices hanging on us which looks nice at first glance - of course ill toss some on that - but i keep telling them "ya dont go from missing the WC to winning Euros in 2 years time, isnt going to happen". wont stop me from supporting, but their brains are as stubborn as watching an infant trying to put a square wooden block into a circular hole. and assuming everything "goes as planned" (which never happens anyways) we'd get the Waffles standing in our way, wish me luck with that thought pls.

what if those "Toilet-boys" advance and knockout the Lions? ........ what if?

by the way, if you win your group youd get one of those behemoths from Group F, in Dublin too; a place where the "welcome" mat isnt exactly going to be rolled out.

i like the prices on them, just not sure if Lions should go off as favs this isnt negative or anything of that matter. and it has nothing to do with anything which happens on the pitch either. theres just soo much bloody pressure; and you just know your media is not going to leave Southgate alone, even his choice of training grounds or hotels or the water bottles will get scrutinized from here to kingdom come. the price of success ehh? if not mistaken, i think the last time a host won this thing was France back in '84.

yeah, Kosovo. darlings? would love to see them there. but you know as well as I do in that lots of folks would resent that (especially those Serbs and Bosnians). but also all those politics involved with it; they still arent even members of the EU yet. and thats just a whole nother topic altogether, lets steer clear of that tho'.

England 475-ish, Waffles 550, Les Bleus low 600s, Oranje 725-ish, Spain 800, Krauts 900, Pasta 1000, Seleccao 1500s, Croats 2500.
