• So people have really cooled off on Russia since the 3-0 loss to Uruguay, but we cannot forget that this was kind of a meaningless game for the two sides and Russia had a man sent off relatively early (36th min).
• Spain’s stand in Coach Hierro is coming under pressure to drop their star GK David De Gea for Athletic Bilbao’s Kepa. There’s also talk of Nacho Monreal slotting into midfield to assist Busquets with defensive duties. Generally chopping and changing at this stage of the competition doesn’t bode well for teams, so we actually expect their defensive woes to continue
  
• Spain lost an excellent tactician in Julen Lopetegui and we have to consider what effect that has had on the team that is likely managing themselves.
• Prior to Lopetegui leaving Spain had only conceded 3 goals in their last 10 competitive games.
• Since he was sacked Spain have conceded 6 goals in 3 games
• These two met in a World Cup warm up game which finished 3-3
• Spain have conceded 12 times in their last 6 World Cup games with clean sheets only coming against AFC sides (Australia and Iran)
• Russia have still been the most clinical team of the tournament with 42.1% of their shots on target converting to goals and we have to remember that HFA (home field advantage) is a big factor, especially at World Cups. 
  
• Expect a competitive encounter with both teams finding the net in regulation time.

BELGIUM -1.5

• Japan have recorded one win so far vs 10 man Colombia, drew with Senegal despite being 2nd best, and lost to a Polish team who had nothing to play for.
• Belgium have won all of their last 8 competitive games and were unbeaten in their World Cup warm up friendlies (W5 D2)
• Belgium had the luxury of fielding their B team in their win over England so they’ll come into this game the fresher of the two
• Japan have now lost their last 5 games against European opposition after suffering that 1-0 loss to Poland
• After the group stages Belgium lead the tournament for goals scored, goal difference, and goals from open play. Their attack looks dynamic and in Roberto Martinez they now have a shrewd tactician who can change things up if needed.
• As we know Belgium won’t look to take the foot off the pedal if they take an early lead, it’s not Martinez’ style to try and protect a 1-0 so that’s why we’ve chose to go with the -1.5 handicap here
• Unless Japan can get an early goal and the Belgians heads drop we don’t see how this bet doesn’t land, Belgium have all the weapons needed to dismantle the Samurai and send them home.
• Also as we seen against Poland, stacking 5 at the back isn't a strategy that works very well for this Japanese team
