Survivor Pool Week 1

Question

Just setup my survivor pool and was looking at week 1 selections. The first week is always tough! So which team should I take? Here are the best options in my opinion.

@KANSAS CITY beats Buffalo

@ARIZONA beats Carolina

@SAN DIEGO beats Minny

Here are the sucker plays in my opinion.

PHILLY beats @St Louis

@DENVER beats Oakland

@TAMPA BAY beats Detroit

Few years ago I was trying to leave New England and the Colts for later, and like a tool took Minnesota and BAM! Eliminated2) Never take a road team in the division.  Seems like a no brainer...but every year this rule is violated and chumps get knocked out.  My one buddy had 2 teams las year and lost both teams violating this rule.  He took San Fran Week 1 @ Seattle and got smacked.  Then he took the Colts @ Jacksonville and got daggered on Scobe 60 yarder.

So I just checked out the consensus picks for week 1 on Yahoo!

KC (26%) - Solid Pick IMHO

Philly (19%) - BAD BAD Idea. Road game, week 1, STL has a lot of time to prepare for Vick. Eagles bunch of new players.... While I think Eagles win...NOOOOO way I touch this game.

NE (18%) - WOW can I get in a league with these tools? Road division is NEVER a good play, no matter what. This number seriously baffles me.

AZ (6%) - Decent Pick, Kolb as good as advertised???

Giants (6%) - Really? This violates rule 2, no road division games.

SD (4%) - Norv Turner always gives them a chance to lose.

Browns (4%) - Good luck with that! Bitter rivalry game, no chance I entertain taking a team against their biggest rival.

Tampa (3%) - Trap game....Detroit should be as good as TB this year maybe better.

Bunch of randomness at 1%....

[/Quote]I tanked my survivor pool 3 years ago or so when the Dolphins brought that wildcat shit to New England and baptized them on their own fieldMIA always plays NE tough.  Also I would add another rule...try not to take the Monday night game.  Nothing worse than watching everyone advance on Sunday and you have to sweat it out till Monday, and everyone is watching your game and rooting against you

That was a crazy year...Pats miss the playoffs after going 11-5. Was so pissed about being booted from the survivor pool, which ended the next week after Oakland beat Denver.

Nothing beats last years drama. Remember that game where KC gutted it out in OT with a field goal as time expired? If they lose or tie that game I win $2,000!!! KC missed a field goal with 3 minutes left and I was jumping up and down...then some how they get the ball back and win!!!!

i would be very careful with KC.  can you say OVERACHIEVE?  their O line is a major ? in pass protection and their only good pass rushers on defense are OLB hali and rotational DE gilberry.  nobody to complement hali in the pass rush and the bills offense is a good passing attack that has picked up more weapons.  the bills rush D was puke last year and they have rebuilt their D this offseason to improve it.  &#x2B;7 is a gift and im seeing a bills upset there.

San Diego. Minny will be abyssmal this year. They think they can bring in mcnabb and solve things but they have far more concerns then just the QB position. SD has been saying this is their year all offseason and have been practicing even during the lockout.

chowdip,In my few years at this I would say try to never take a road team.  I have taken 1 road team in 4 years and lost that game. I wouldn&#x27;t go as far as making it a rule, but be very careful.  Obviously never take a road division team.  there are usually a few solid home plays every week to chose from.  also, week 1 is a bitch.  last year I had the bears and got sooooo lucky that they reversed the Calvin Johnson TD at the end.  so think extra hard about week 1.  week 2 last year everyone had the cowboys over the bears, and the bears took out half our league with the upset.  so be aware of teams that you do not know a lot about early and have a good defense (who would of bet this if they knew the bears would win their division and get to the NFC championship game?)good luck man!  i will start a survivor pool topic each week to discuss the games, and I will post my picks, let me know who you pick and how you are doing

AGREE....the more I think about this pick the more I wan&#x27;t to stay away.  buffalo is one of those teams that was better than their record last year, and was putting up points at a crazy rate late in the season.  i still think the chiefs get it done, because arrowhead is a nasty place for the visiting team, but wouldn&#x27;t it be sweet to root for an upset and watch half the league get eliminated week 1?

even though the chargers usually stumble out of the gate, i see them destroying minny week 1.  mcnabb is finished and the vikes are fooling themselves into thinking he makes them competitive.  he will be throwing to a bunch of #2 receivers also. their #1 stength,the D line, has been torn apart.  AD is running behind an old O line that has regressed in their run blocking.  and the chargers have hired a good special teams coordinator in bissachia as well as dedicate the draft to getting players that can contribute immediately on improving special teams.  the -9 really does not scare me.
