Real Club Valderrama course notes
Valderrama is a Par-71, 7,010-yard track designed by Robert Trent Jones that features Tifway 419 fairways and T1 Creeping Bentgrass greens. This weekend marks the second time that Real Club Valderrama will host a LIV event.
Prominent tournaments the Valderrama Golf Club has hosted include the 1997 Ryder Cup and the WGC-American Express Championship (1999, 2000).
LIV Golf Andalucia picks and predictions
Louis Oosthuizen to win outright (+2,400)
There’s been a lot of inconsistency in the results for Oosthuizen this season, but the highlights have been impressive, and there’s a lot to be encouraged about this week. First, the South African has been incredible on and around the green. He ranks first in scrambling and third in both putting average and strokes gained on the green.
Of course, Oosthuizen’s long-time calling card has been his world-class ball-striking, so ranking 29th in greens-in-regulation is surprising. Still, he’s 10th in birdies per round and just gained strokes on long, medium, and short approaches at the Nashville event. I expect the elite iron play to continue, and for Oosthuizen to contend this week at the Real Club Valderrama.
Pick: Louis Oosthuizen to win outright (+2,400 at bet365)
John Catlin Top 20 (+100)
The 33-year-old American is no longer flying under the radar with back-to-back wins on the Asian Tour early this season and a solo second last week in the International Series Morocco. He’s also a three-time winner on the DP World Tour, including taking down the 2020 Andalucía Masters right here at Valderrama.
This will be Catlin’s third LIV Golf event, and he finished T24 in Houston and T7 in Nashville. Additionally, while it’s just a two-event sample, Catlin has gained strokes tee-to-green and impressed with 17 birdies across three rounds in Nashville.
Pick: John Catlin Top 20 finish (+100 at DraftKings)
Martin Kaymer Top 20 (+180)
These are long odds for a player with a long history of success at Valderrama. Kaymer finished sixth in the 2007 Volvo Masters here, and then he followed it up with a T2 finish the following year. The track hosted the Andalucía Masters in 2010 and 2011, and the German played the weekend with respective T21 and T23 results. He also rolled off a run of T6-T27 in DP World Tour events at Valderrama in 2016 and 2017. Finally, Kaymer finished runner-up in the 2020 Andalucía Masters to Catlin.
While Kaymer’s best golf is in the rearview mirror and finished just T36 in last year’s LIV Golf Valderrama event, he’s made the cut in consecutive major championships and has Top 20 finishes in three of his past four LIV events. Pair his improved form with his experience at this difficult track, and we’re landing a nice number for Kaymer.
Pick: Martin Kaymer Top 20 finish (+180 at DraftKings)

Last year's LIV Golf Andalucia winner — Talor Gooch — is listed at +1,900 ahead of Friday's first round.
