JCB Golf & Country Club course notes

Set amid the lush green rolling countryside of Staffordshire, JCB Golf & Country Club is a Tour-ready contemporary masterpiece that will play as a 7,243-yard Par 71. The imaginative design twists and turns around the natural contours and dips in and out of the existing woodlands while bringing into play the existing water features.

LIV Golf UK picks and predictions

Jon Rahm to win outright (+700)

The Spaniard backdoored to a T7 finish at The Open with an impressive final-round 68 and I’m expecting him to contend again this week at JCB Golf & Country Club. Rahm gained true strokes across the board at Royal Troon, including impressively pacing the field in true strokes gained around-the-green and ranking eighth in true strokes gained tee-to-green.

Carding his first strong showing in a 2024 major is further encouraging because he's been a force since joining the LIV Golf circuit with five Top 5s and another five Top 10s. His statistics have been equally as dominant with top ranks in birdie average and greens-in-regulation percentage.

His first LIV Golf win is coming, and he’s back in top form with a T3-T10-T7 run across his past three worldwide events.

Pick: Jon Rahm to win outright (+700 at DraftKings)

John Caitlin Top 20 (+110)

It’s been an impressive run for the 33-year-old American, and he’s quickly proving to be a world-class player on the LIV Golf circuit with a T24-T7-T23 run to start his tenure. Of course, Caitlin added a solo second at the International Series Morocco on the Asian Tour in early July and a T16 at The Open to showcase his game plays everywhere.

I’m most impressed with him gaining true strokes across the board last week during The Open, including ranking eighth in true strokes gained off-the-tee and 16th in true strokes gained tee-to-green. Additionally, after an opening-round 76, Caitlin rebounded to play under par across the final three rounds.

There’s also a huge edge in the available odds with bet365 hanging Caitlin to finish Top 20 at -130. The difference in the numbers attaches a positive expected value of 19% to the +110 DraftKings price.

Pick: John Cailtlin Top 20 (+110 at DraftKings)

Dustin Johnson over Anirban Lahiri (-115)

This is strictly a numbers play because there isn’t a shop I could find with Lahiri trading at a lower number to win than Johnson was, and the American is also coming off a respectable T31 in The Open. So, it was surprising to see the two players in a head-to-head matchup with an even -115 vig on each side.

Lahiri just had his best LIV Golf finish of the year with a solo second in the Andalucia event, and I think his price is skewed as a result.

Statistically, Johnson has the higher GIR% and birdie average and I also value DJ ranking 26th in true strokes gained putting last week at The Open. There’s also no question that he's a superior talent and the more accomplished player.

Pick: Dustin Johnson over Anirban Lahiri (-115 at DraftKings)

LIV Golf UK field and favorites

Despite not winning, last week's Open Championship was a positive week for Jon Rahm after really struggling in the majors this season. He finished T7 alongside World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and returns to LIV in strong form after finishing T3 and T10 in his last two starts on tour.

That makes him the betting favorite in England this week with odds as short as +650. U.S. Open champ Bryson DeChambeau is second on the board (+700) despite missing the cut at Royal Troon last week. Similar to Rahm, Bryson finished T3 and solo-ninth in the lead-up to The Open.

Tyrrell Hatton has moved up to third on the LIV board (+900) after a win in Nashville and a third-place finish in Andalucia. He missed the cut at The Open last week, however. Joaquin Niemann has similar 9/1 odds thanks to T3 and T6 finishes in his last two LIV starts.

Running fifth is Sergio Garcia, who didn't play The Open but won his last start at LIV Andalucia. He's listed between 12/1 and 14/1.
