Shriners Children's Open Picks, Outrights, & Best Bets: Cole Makes Early Move

Eric Cole is working his way back into form and played well during last year's Fall Swing in a run that includes a T3 finish here at TPC Summerlin. Our Shriners Childeren's Open picks expect more of the same from him this week.

The PGA Tour heads to Sin City for the Shriners Children’s Open at TPC Summerlin.

Tom Kim is both the back-to-back champion and betting favorite in the Shriners Children’s Open odds this week, and our free golf picks have you covered for the event.

Best Shriners Children's Open picks

Shriners Children's Open outright picks

Pick to win: Taylor Pendith
+2,500 at DraftKings

Taylor Pendrith is in top form and ranks fourth in this field in true strokes gained tee-to-green, on approach, and putting across his past five events. The Canadian has turned in five consecutive Top 25s, including two Top 5s during the stretch, and he’s gained true strokes on approach and on the greens in each event.

Add ranking 15th in birdie average and 19th in adjusted scoring average, and Pendrith checks a lot of boxes. Finishing T3 here last year is the icing on the cake, and I expect him to make another run at the TPC Summerlin title this week.

I’m also advising you to look at the available each-way markets and/or add a Pendrith to finish the Top 10 bet to your card. The best odds for a Pendrith Top 10 are +320 at bet365.

Sleeper pick to win: Stephen Jaeger
+3,500 at FanDuel

Stephen Jaeger followed up his T23 at the Sanderson Farms Championship with a solo second last week at the Black Desert Championship. He gained true strokes across the board in Utah, including ranking sixth from tee to green and 18th in putting.

Gaining strokes on approach is the key because the rest of his game has been solid. He’s eighth in total driving for the season and has gained true strokes on the greens in each of his past four events. Finally, I also value him playing eight consecutive rounds under par for a 36-under total while carding just six bogeys and a double.

I’m also recommending a secondary bet on Jaeger, with either an each-way or top finish. He’s widely available at +360 to finish Top 10 and +160 to finish Top 20.

Finishing position pick: Beau Hossler Top 30
+100 at bet365

This will be the seventh trip to TPC Summerlin for Beau Hossler, and he’s played the weekend in his first six with a pair of Top 10s and two more Top 30s. The 29-year-old American is also in excellent form, posting a T12-MC-2-T11 stretch while ranking fourth in this field in true strokes gained tee-to-green.

I love that Hossler's gained true strokes on approach in three of the noted four tournaments because his short game is tidy and consistent. He also ranks 39th in adjusted scoring average, 36th in scrambling percentage, and 31st in total putting. Those are all excellent marks in this watered-down field.

Finishing position pick: J.J. Spaun Top 40
-120 at bet365

J.J. Spaun has played the weekend in eight of his past nine events, with the outlier being a withdrawal from the Sanderson Farms two weeks ago. He has seven Top 40 finishes during the stretch, including returning to play last week with a T25 at the Black Desert while finishing 11th in true strokes gained tee-to-green.

This will be his eighth appearance in this event, and he has a Top 10, two more Top 15s and a T35 to go along with his T46 last year. His game is also tight right now; he’s gained true strokes across the board during the highlighted nine-tournament stretch, which includes ranking 13th in true strokes gained tee-to-green and eighth on approach.

Shriners Children's Open first-round pick

Round 1 pick: Eric Cole Top 20
+250 at bet365

Eric Cole finished T3 in last year’s event while pacing the field in true strokes gained tee-to-green and ranking fourth in true strokes gained approach. He’s also fresh off a T16 at the Sanderson Farms, where he finished second and first in the respective metrics.

I also value his long-term form entering the week. He’s played the weekend in eight of his past nine tournaments and ranks 12th in this field in true strokes gained tee-to-green, fifth on approach, and 30th in putting over that span. Remember: Cole was red hot this time last year with four Top 5s across five events during the Fall Swing. These tracks fit his eye and match his game.
