Online sports betting is just two days away from becoming a reality in Massachusetts and online sports betting sites are busy attracting customers.
On Tuesday, BetMGM announced a deal with the Boston Red Sox that will give the sportsbook a large presence in iconic Fenway Park. MGM most recently partnered with the Cincinnati Reds for Ohio’s betting launch back in October, and it's also a betting partner with Major League Baseball.
"The Red Sox are one of baseball's most beloved organizations and we're thrilled to bring BetMGM to their passionate fans," said Matt Prevost, Chief Revenue Officer of BetMGM. "We look forward to working together to elevate the gameday experience in Boston."
BetMGM signage will now be found on the Green Monster and an MGM suite will be opened in the stadium for VIP experiences. BetMGM will also be on the team’s social media platforms.
"Given our strong relationship with MGM Resorts, BetMGM was the clear choice to become the first sports betting partner of the club,” added Troup Parkinson, EVP of Partnerships.
Like BetMGM, rival FanDuel also saw the importance of the Red Sox in securing market share for legal sports betting. On Monday, New England Sports Network agreed to a partnership with FanDuel that will give the sportsbook a presence on television.
MGM’s retail presence
Unlike FanDuel, MGM has a residence in the state with their downtown Springfield casino.
"As host of the annual Red Sox Winter weekend, MGM Springfield has become a destination for New England baseball fans," said Chris Kelley, President & COO of MGM Resorts.
For over a month, residents have been able to place physical bets at the casino. All that being said, sports betting in Massachusetts is looking to be a fiercely competitive market when you include DraftKings, which is headquartered in Boston.
