The Kansas City Chiefs have their sights set on Super Bowl history – and sportsbooks have them as slight favorites to do it.

The Chiefs opened as 1-point favorites over the Philadelphia Eagles in early Super Bowl odds at Caesars in the moments following their thrilling 32-29 win over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship game on Sunday night. Kansas City will seek to become the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowl titles – a run that began with a 38-35 win over the Eagles at Super Bowl 57.

Caesars set the opening Super Bowl 59 total at 48, while several other notable sportsbooks had it at 48.5. And it didn't take long for those numbers to move: Caesars immediately saw Kansas City shift to -1.5 with the total moving to 50, then settled in at -2 and 49.5 overnight.

The AFC-champion Chiefs and NFC-champion Eagles will take their rematch to Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Feb. 9.

Kansas City rolled to a 15-2 regular-season record, then defeated the Houston Texans 23-14 in their playoff opener before once again toppling the Bills in the AFC title game. Philadelphia was similarly dominant in posting a 14-3 regular-season mark, then defeated the Green Bay Packers 22-10 in the wild-card round and dispatched the Los Angeles Rams 28-22 in the divisional round before blowing out the Washington Commanders 55-23 in a one-sided NFC Championship game.

Chiefs a poor cover option in 2024; Eagles soared ATS

Kansas City operated mostly as escape artists in 2024, going a perfect 11-0 SU in one-possession games – and while it made for great theater, it didn't help Chiefs bettors that much. Kansas City went just 8-9 ATS during the year, though it has covered four of its past six dating back to Week 15 of the regular season.

The Eagles, on the other hand, were a robust 11-6 ATS for the campaign and have been on a tear in the latter stages of the campaign, having covered in five of their previous seven games (including the playoffs). Their only misses in that span came in a six-point win over the Rams at -7.5, and a 36-33 loss to Washington as a four-point fave.

Barring a major injury or other development impacting the spread, this will mark the 16th consecutive Super Bowl to feature a spread of five or fewer points.

Both teams favored the under in 2024

The Chiefs posted a 7-10-0 over-under mark in the regular season, as its offense underwhelmed compared with expectations (the AFC title game marked its first 30-point performance of the season) while the defense excelled. Kansas City is 1-1 O/U so far in the postseason.

The Eagles also went 7-10-0 O/U during the season despite finishing seventh in the NFL in points per game. Philadelphia's defense limited opposing teams to just 17.8 points per game, the second-lowest rate in the league.

This marks the ninth Super Bowl in a row to feature a total north of 47; teams went 3-5 O/U in the previous eight.
