The summer slowdown hit Massachusetts as eight online betting site operators and three retail sportsbooks combined for a $332 million handle in June, down 27% from the May handle of $454 million.
Gross revenue from legal sports betting saw a larger month-over-month dip of 46.8% to $33 million in June. The hold of 9.9% fell just shy of double digits thanks to bettors getting the better of retail sportsbooks, which turned in a 2.1% win rate.
Despite the slower month, Massachusetts is set to pass $2 billion in handle in July, which will be just the fifth full month of legal online wagering.
The state hauled in $6.4 million in taxes on an adjusted revenue of over $32 million.
Online sports betting kept its trend of a double-digit hold, going with a 10.15% win rate in June behind revenue of $32.8 million on a mobile handle of $323.5 million.
Brick-and-mortar sportsbooks at Encore Boston Harbor, Planiridge Park Casino, and MGM Springfield combined to bring in just $153,922 on a handle of $8.5 million.
DraftKings lead online operators
DraftKings set the tone in the Bay State with mobile gross revenue of $15.5 million on $159.4 million in wagers. It marked the first time the sportsbook leader recorded a handle under $200 million, and its 9.74% hold ranked fourth in sports betting in Massachusetts in June.
FanDuel came in second in handle at $96.1 million, but it turned a higher hold of 11.67% to generate $11.2 million in revenue.
BetMGM was third in the Bay State in handle ($25 million) and revenue ($3.6 million), but its 14.42% win rate was tops among the eight online sportsbooks. Caesars and WynnBET both went over $10 million in handle, but neither turned a hold higher than 5.4%.
Fanatics, a newcomer to Massachusetts, enjoyed an 11.84% win rate in its first full month, turning revenue of $224,685 on a handle of $1.9 million.
