The Houston Astros won their ninth consecutive road game on Thursday night with a 6-0 victory over the Baltimore Orioles.

Hunter Brown gets the nod for the Astros on Friday, August 23, and my Astros vs. Orioles predictions and MLB picks expect Brown and the Houston relief corps to continue their hot pitching.

My analysis

The Houston Astros are the MLB version of the “Road Warriors.” Thursday night’s 6-0 trouncing of the Baltimore Orioles was the Astros’ ninth consecutive road win, and Orioles lefty Cade Povich will have a tough time keeping the Houston lineup at bay tonight.

Povich does a better job at home than he does on the road. He’s allowed 13 earned runs with three home runs across 32 2/3 home frames but his low strikeout rate and .310 home BABIP suggest he could be in for a rough Friday.

That’s because Houston pummels lefties. They don’t strike out much (18.5%) and their .299 BABIP and 109 wRC+ during the second half of the season suggest the Astros could produce tonight against the Orioles’ rookie southpaw.

Houston righty Hunter Brown has allowed nine earned runs across his last five starts (30 innings). He gets the whiffs (35) with only nine free passes and one home run during that span. Brown has also been tougher on left-handed lumber than righties, and he could see as many as seven lefties tonight.

This Orioles team has scored only 19 runs across their last five and 18 runs in their last five at home. The Astros crack lefties and boast the better bullpen, so they should come out on top tonight.

Astros vs Orioles same-game parlay (SGP)

Astros moneyline

Hunter Brown 6+ strikeouts

Under 9

Brown has cleared 6+ strikeouts in four of his last five starts. The Orioles’ 20% whiff rate against righties has ballooned to 23% since the break.

Low-scoring games seem to be the soundtrack to both teams’ recent play. Both clubs are 3-7-0 to the Under across their last 10.
