NRFI/YRFI bets for April 12
Blue Jays vs Orioles at Team: NRFI (-115 at ProphetX)
The Baltimore Orioles have surged to the top of the NRFI board, as they're running the longest current streak of scoreless first innings at four. Just one first-inning run has been plated in their seven home starts.
Tomoyuki Sugano gets the call for the Orioles, his first start at home this season. Last time out, he was solid, allowing five hits in 5 1/3 innings, giving up just a single earned run – most importantly, no runs in the first.
The numbers suggest another scoreless first inning, as he's facing off with a Toronto Blue Jays club that has seen zeros in the first inning in five of seven road games.
The Blue Jays will send out sneaky-good starter Bowden Francis. He's got a 3.18 ERA and has allowed two earned runs in two starts on the year, with a pair of clean first innings in both appearances.
Braves vs Rays: YRFI (-115 at ProphetX)
It's early, but it's still shocking to see the Atlanta Braves tied for the most losses in baseball at 3-10. They're also one of baseball's most prolific first-inning scoring teams.
Nine of their first 13 games have seen a first-inning run plate, and it's happened six times out of eight on the road.
AJ Smith-Shawver is the prime candidate to make it another. The 22-year-old righty has struggled out the game in both of his starts, giving up first-inning runs each time, putting Atlanta behind the 8-ball.
He's yet to get out of the fifth inning and has a rough 5.19 ERA and an 0-2 record.
He'll be the best bet to cash the YRFI as Tampa Bay Rays righty Drew Rasmussen has been lights out, giving up just a single earned run in 10 innings of work across two starts.
He's not yet qualified, but his 0.90 ERA is pretty microscopic.
Giants vs. Yankees Team: YRFI (-114 at ProphetX)
Let's wrap up in the Bronx, where you need to get to your seat early, as New York Yankees home games always seem to feature early-inning action.
New York lost 9-1 to the San Francisco Giants Friday night, giving up five runs in the first inning and never recovering. That's the sixth time in seven home games the Yanks have seen a run plate in the first inning.
Will Warren gets the call for New York, and it's his start that produced the only clean first inning in the Bronx this season to date.
But it's not a good combination for an NRFI on Saturday: Warren has a 6.00 ERA, and the Giants are inside the Top 10 in runs scored this season.
If that side doesn't convince you, Giants starter Jordan Hicks has had a YRFI in one start this year, and the Yankees have tagged him for three home runs in the 40 at-bats they've seen him.
❓What are NRFI and YRFI bets❓
NRFI (No Run First Inning) and YRFI (Yes Run First Inning) bets add a thrilling twist to the start of an MLB game. A NRFI bet is a wager that no runs will be scored in the first inning. You're betting that the starting pitchers for both teams will get through the first inning without allowing any runs, whether by striking out batters, inducing ground balls, or through solid defensive play.
A YRFI bet is the exact opposite. You're betting that at least one run will be scored in the first inning. In this case, you’re hoping for an early offensive burst such as a leadoff walk, a timely hit, or even a home run.
NRFI and YRFI bets add excitement to the early part of a game and offer immediate gratification for bettors looking for a quick resolution.
