Kevin Gausman looked like his vintage self in his last start and will keep the ball rolling against the Braves tonight.

We should be in for one hell of a pitcher’s duel when the Toronto Blue Jays host the Atlanta Braves tonight at Rogers Centre.

That’s because Kevin Gausman is toeing the rubber against Spencer Schwellenbach in the second game of this interleague set.

So, it’s no surprise that my Blue Jays predictions and MLB picks highlight this outstanding pitching matchup with a best bet and a same-game parlay for Tuesday, April 15.

Blue Jays predictions for April 15

Today’s Blue Jays best bet: TEASER

Kevin Gausman Over 5.0 Strikeouts (-133 at BetVictor)

The Atlanta Braves struck first against the Toronto Blue Jays, thanks in big part to the long ball. The Braves hit three home runs en route to an 8-4 win. However, I think runs will be much harder to come by tonight.

With Kevin Gausman facing off against Spencer Schwellenbach, pitching fans are in for a treat.

The Braves have had a lot of issues early on this season, but Schwellenbach hasn't been one of them. He has allowed just one earned run on 10 hits with 19 strikeouts in 20 innings pitched over three starts.

But don’t be shocked if Guasman matches him pitch for pitch. The veteran right-hander has a 2.33 ERA and has allowed just nine hits over 19 1/3 innings in his first three outings.

Gausman is also coming off a vintage performance where his trademark splitter was dancing and he shut out the Boston Red Sox over eight innings, giving up just four hits while striking out 10.

And I like Gausman to keep that going tonight.

The Braves' bats had a little breakout last night, but Gausman’s stuff is just a teeny bit better than what rookie Easton Lucas was throwing. And even with their offensive outburst, this team still ranks 19th in batting average and OPS and 20th in wRC+. It also doesn’t help that Marcell Ozuna is out of the lineup for this series.

That means Gausman will have a great opportunity to pitch deep into this ball game and rack up the Ks, particularly because the Braves have been whiffing a lot this season. Atlanta enters with the fifth-highest strikeout rate in baseball.

With Gausman having a longer leash than most starters and getting a good matchup tonight, I’m betting we see a bunch of punchouts as he goes over his strikeout prop.

Today’s Blue Jays same-game parlay (SGP)

Kevin Gausman Over 5.5 strikeouts

Bryan De La Cruz Under 0.5 hits

Under 7.5

Hits are hard to come by against Gausman, which isn’t a good thing for Braves outfielder Bryan De La Cruz.

De La Cruz has started this season in a slump with a .186 batting average and a .448 OPS. He is hitless in his last four games. Let’s back him to make it five straight with the expectation that Gausman’s splitter gives him problems.

And with two starters on the mound who are dealing, let’s round this same-game parlay out with the Under 7.5 for the full game total. The Under is a combined 4-2 when Gausman and Schwellenbach start this season.
