Toronto Blue Jays fans can finally rest easy after Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was locked up to a massive long-term deal.
And with the contract situation behind him, the Jays are hoping Vladdy can start swatting a few dingers after a weekend that saw them score just three runs. Where better to start than Fenway Park, where the Jays open a series with the Boston Red Sox?
My Blue Jays predictions and MLB picks break down why I like the scoreboard to light up on Monday, April 7.

Today’s Blue Jays best bet: Offense bounces back
Over 8.5 (-120 at BetVictor)
It was a rough weekend of scoring for the Toronto Blue Jays, plating just three runs while getting swept away by the Mets. Despite this, it’s good vibes only as they open a series at Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox.
That’s because Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is a Blue Jay for life after inking a massive 14-year, $500-million deal to stay with the only team he's ever known. With the contract situation behind him, Vladdy can focus on swatting dingers, and why not start tonight?
Vladdy's always mashed the baseball at Fenway, hitting .356 with a 1.054 OPS and 10 home runs in 46 career games. So, tonight is as good a night as any for Guerrero’s power numbers to return.
It also sounds like George Springer will be back in the lineup after avoiding serious injury following a collision with the outfield wall over the weekend. Springer has led the way for a team that ranks ninth in batting average so far this season, and tonight, they’ll face rookie Richard Fitts.
Injuries have decimated the Red Sox’s rotation, so they turn to Fitts for the second time in this young season. He's a right-hander who throws mostly a combination of a four-seam fastball, a slider, and a sweeper. His first start was solid, allowing three runs on six hits over six innings.
However, if the Jays are patient at the plate, as they have been this season (they rank 20th in strikeouts), I like the Jays' chances of stringing together some hits tonight when they dig in against the Red Sox prospect.
Meanwhile, scoring wasn’t a problem for the Red Sox this weekend, plating a ridiculous 36 runs in just three games against the Cardinals. They enter this game ranked fifth in batting average and third in OPS.
I expect these offenses to do some work and send this Over the total.
Today’s Blue Jays same-game parlay (SGP)
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 0.5 RBI
George Springer Over 1.5 total bases
Richard Fitts Over 2.5 earned runs
As noted, Vladdy crushes the ball at Fenway Park. Despite the power numbers still lacking this season, he's driven in a run four times this season and gets a good matchup in a park he loves to hit in.
It would also be great if George Springer were back in the lineup. The Blue Jays outfielder was off to a hot start before hurting his back on Saturday night in New York, but he seemed none the worse for wear as he entered the game Sunday as a pinch runner and promptly stole a base.
He's hitting .379 with a 1.075 OPS and has multiple hits in five of his eight starts, and has 2+ total bases six times during that period.
So, if we’re betting the game goes Over and the Jays' key bats to have some success, let’s round this same-game parlay out with Fitts to go Over 2.5 earned runs. He allowed three runs last time out, and the Red Sox need innings from their starters.
