Blue Jays vs Red Sox Prediction, Picks, and Odds for Tonight’s MLB Game

This AL East showdown features two teams trending in opposite directions, but the biggest outlier for bettors is the tribulations that both starting pitchers carry heading into tonight's matchup at Fenway Park.

In a season full of gut-wrenching and disappointing results for the Toronto Blue Jays, Monday night’s loss at Fenway Park might have been the worst.

The Blue Jays held a late 6-2 lead following a majestic bomb from Vladimir Guerrero Jr. that may still be airborne. However, another bullpen collapse saw the Boston Red Sox walk off the Jays in the bottom of the ninth.

My Blue Jays vs. Red Sox predictions expect another high-scoring affair in Beantown. Read more in our latest MLB picks for Tuesday, June 25.

Blue Jays vs Red Sox prediction

My best bet
Over 9.5 (-103 at PROLINE+)

My analysis

I am somewhat stunned that the entirety of the Toronto Blue Jays coaching staff is still employed today, as last night's 7-6 loss to the Boston Red Sox officially signaled rock bottom.

It was the Blue Jays seventh loss in a row and their fourth straight game dropped to the Red Sox. The Jays bullpen now ranks 23rd in xFIP and 27th in strikeout rate, and the bleeding likely won't stop with Kevin Gausman starting tonight.

The right-hander has seen the velocity on his fastball dip and as a result, is pitching to a 5.15 expected ERA. His opponent's .493 expected slugging ranks in the Bottom 7% among MLB pitchers.

The Red Sox also had recent success against the Jays’ embattled starter, getting to Gausman for five runs (four earned) on six hits and three walks over 5 2/3 innings.

Meanwhile, Boston starter Brayan Bello hasn't fared well against Toronto in his career, with current Jays hitters boasting a .275 xBA and a .403 xSLG against the righty. The 25-year-old only surrendered two earned runs when he last faced the Jays just last week, but he was lucky they didn’t tack on more, as he gave up seven hits and two walks over six innings of work.

Funny enough, Gausman also started in that game, with Boston prevailing by a score of 7-3. While the total has been adjusted this time around, I’m still willing to jump on the Over.

Blue Jays star player prop

My best bet
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 0.5 HRs (+425 at PROLINE+)

While this is a miserable time to be a Blue Jays fan, you can’t put any blame on Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

The superstar first baseman is doing his best to try and power his team’s offense, hitting .328 with a .889 OPS since May 5. That includes a 7-for-17 mark over his last four games, including three home runs.

Tonight, he gets a great matchup against Bello. Guerrero has feasted on the Boston right-hander throughout his career, going 7-for-17 with two doubles and two dingers vs. Bello.

When Vladdy is feeling good at the plate, he usually knocks balls out of the park in bunches. Considering this favorable matchup and some promising weather in Boston, I’m taking a shot on Guerrero to hit another bomb tonight.
